Madikwe Safari Lodge
Certificate of Excellence

From start to finish a personal service was delivery a first class experience. The lodges were of high standard and spacious. Lodge comprised sitting area, bedroom with large double beds (or twins provided) looking out over the game park, bathroom with large bath, indoor and outdoor showers, double sinks and separate toilet. Air-conditioing, fridge with complimentary drinks provided along iwth hairdryer, travel adapters, and gyn in a bag! On the balcony is a private plunge pool and sun loungers - ideal way to spend time between the game drives.

Meals were served in the communal area however seating plans ensured you never felt as though you were on top of your fellow guests. All meals of excellent standard with professional service from your deidcated chef/butler. Plentiful food, good choice and portions plus childrens menu if necessary ( ouir 8 year old used the mix and match approach from all menus!). Morning and afternoon teas also included choices of cakes and savouries and during each game drive additional refreshments and goodies provided (now the gym in a bag doesnt seem such a daft idea!).

The house manager arranged cooking club for our youngest (baking biscuits for afternoon tea), a trip to the ranger quarter for our children as an opportuintiy for the girls to meet the rangers pets (snakes!!) and internet connectivity etc to help flight bookings. Nothing seemed too much trouble.

What can i say about the game drives - I used to think animal kingdom was good until i experience a true game drive- despite the early rises we quickly became hooked and much of our enjoyment was down to our ranger whose knowledge was vast, he was approachable and wanted to make sure we got to see everything we wanted - if animals willing. he used his knowledge of the part to create some wonderful memories for us...lions roaring just adjacent to the truck, elephants bathing in the dam, being charged by a female elephant, anticipation of a lioness going for a kill (she didnt much to my youngest relief) and much more. Only missed out on the more reclusive animals - leopard, wild dogs - but not for lack of trying and some "advanced" driving through the bush. All questions were welomed and answered and he was a dab hand at knocking up a hot chocolate and amurula, or handing out the red wine during sun-downers. On the final day the girls argued over who would sit up front next to him for the final game drive.

If anyone is considering a safari I would recommend Madikwe game reservere - an ideal size for driving and expectation of viewings, freindly, professiional and approachable staff, excellent accommodation and services.
Only issue was with insects - didnt bother us particualarly and what do you expect when living so close to nature. I would accept the ants and spiders anytime to experience what I did...can't wait for another special occassion so I can do it all over again.

We stayed at Madikwe for four days during our South African safari. The staff, food, and safari guides were excellent. They were extremely knowledgeable, very friendly, and the resort had a lot of "litle touches" to take make your safari experience from "special", to "unforgettable"! You will not be disappointed with this CC Africa property.

We have just returned from the most magical place. The reserve is stunning and the accommodation was out of this world. The staff can't do enough for you and made our stay very very special. We stayed in a group of 4 suites and I can't fault anything about the lodge. The food was fantastic and very plentiful. The suites are gorgeous with breathtaking views over the reserve. Our two girls were in their own suite which worked really well and there were no safety issues as you're escorted everywhere after dark and they were reassured that they could call anyone at any time. Our ranger (Marc) was extremely knowledgeable and made our stay extra special. My only slight criticism would be that maybe they should have a minimum age (maybe 10yrs) limit for the game drives as there were occasions when we would have stayed out longer but the families we were with wanted to return to the lodge.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it and we are planning our return.

Beautiful accommodation in a wonderful setting. Great food and delightful, friendly service. We came to see game and we saw lots. Our Ranger was fantastic. This was our first safari and will not be our last. Based on this experience I'll actively seek out CC Africa lodges in future. My wife and I visited with our sons, aged 12 and 14 and another family. We all had a great time.

We drove ourselves from Johannesburg on the recommended route via Zeerust to the Abjaterskop Gate; the journey was further than I realised, especially as Madikwe Safari Lodge is at least a further 45 mins drive from the Abjaterskop Gate inside the Reserve. If I did this again I'd either rent a 4x4 and try the route from Johannesburg via Sun City to the Molatedi Gate, or fly.

This is a CC Africa hotel, and has most of the CC Africa touches - pancakes in the bush, chocolate and marshmallow and amarula treats on our last night, and the typical all-inclusive formula. Our camp was small and intimate with only 4 rooms. The view from the room was stunning, although the room was in need of a bit of maintenance.

Whilst staff were friendly and tried, there one trainee member of staff, who we really struggled to interact with, as she did not understand English, and messed up requests quite a few times. The food was below expectations - soup every night as a starter, same breakfast, etc, although there was plenty of it, and it was impossible not to like something at each meal.

The game was excellent, many lion sightings, wild dogs, and the ranger was very knowledgable and friendly.

We stayed here for four nights with out two children aged 13 and 10. It was the best of times and something we will never forget.
The lodge itself is a peaceful haven constructed from tree branches, there is a large, airy communal lounge area where you meet before the game drives and where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served.
The staff are so welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them, if there is a problem, just ask and it will be effortlessly sorted out.
The accomdation is very luxurious, we had two bungalows, each looks out into the bush and is totally private. The best bit is the long veranda with outdoor shower, loungers and plunge pool. Nice bedroom area with vast double bed, air con, mini bar and nice shower/bathroom with lots of nice toileteries.
There is no choice on the food, but we enjoyed it..good breakfasts, nice salad medlies for lunch, dinners were often in the open air boma all lit by candle and lanterns, very atmospheric. You are met after every game drive with a cold flannel and a different refreshing drink. On Christmas day the staff sang local songs at our evening meal which added to the african experience.
Very kid friendly, nothing too much trouble and treated with respect.
The game drives were excellent, our ranger made the trip, we saw hippo, lion, buffalo, cheetah, rhino, elephant plus the usual giraffe/zebra etc. and loads of amazing birds. Stopped for bfast drinks and sundowners and some other suprises thrown in on the way, to make things special....
Throughout the stay, every detail was taken care of with extra suprises on top...we felt well looked after, and would go back any time.

I stayed with a friend at the end of Oct 07. We had been in Sabi Bush Camp just prior and it was wonderful. However Madikwe Lodge it is just
a wannabe in comparison. The food was sub standard...Cold wart hog kebobs--congealed fat... cold (from the fridge) onion rings. The rangers are not equipped with guns...hence no safari walks-and they don't dine with you during meals. Most lodges have the rangers dine with you at dinner. Also no spotters on the safari vehicles. Purely a money saving tactic as far as I am concerned. Our guide was told at noon one day of a lion kill and chose not to tell us about it until the evening,,,,, and then said it was too far to go. We received this info on good authority from another ranger the next day. We asked for another ranger and were told there were none. After threatening to leave and ask for our money back another jeep and ranger were provided. When leaving we were given a bill for "extras"... park fees and extra taxes. We realized these had been paid for when we booked and they reluctantly removed them from our bill. I am sure many people
do not dispute this. This was not a cheap stay and as far as I am concerned CCAfrica owes me a refund. This is just a small list of a larger one...DO NOT STAY HERE...beautiful grounds...they cheap out on everything. Staff is nice but inept.
