“Truly excellent! Wonderful lodge and great people”
Reviewed March 23, 2013

We stayed for 2 nights and felt pampered all around. The lodge is in beautiful African style - very tastefully decorated. Rooms - villas are absolutely HUGE. Ours had an outdoor pool, shower, indoor shower and bathtub, sofa area....

Staff were enormously attentive and friendly. You are greeted with a drink and cold towels when arriving from each game drive. Little nice gestures that made our stay truly special! Food was very tasty too. What I loved about the lodge was that they were SO generous given that it was an all inclusive stay. Game drives were fantastic - our ranges Andre was so knowledgable: he explained lots of things to us and wasn't shy to drive to remote areas for us to see as much game as possible (we even saw a hippo!!). I wish there was a bit more bug-control in the room, other than that is was perfect!

My wife and I spent 4 nights in the Dithaba lodge and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room and facilities where excellent. Every time we returned to our room it was like we had never been there before. Thank you Sylvia. The lodge was run by Kebe who seemed to know what we needed before we did ourselves. The relaxed holiday was also due to Moses and Patrick. The look out deck was great sitting there with a beer looking at the animals stroll by.

However what really makes a safari holiday is the animals and we wereso fortunate to have Kenneth as our ranger he seemed to have the knack of knowing exactly where the animals were going to be. One afternoon we saw the big 5 within a couple of hours and 4 cheetahs just after they had killed a young zebra.

The highlight however had to be the black rhino we saw on our final morning.

On two nights we had bomas which were excellent as we're the other two evening meals. However lunch and breakfast were a little below par compared with other safari lodges we have stayed at.

My other minor moan was the lack of WIFI in the Dithaba lodge it was available in Lepala but that was a 10 minute drive away.

One last suggestion do have a look at the Eco Lodge even if you don't have children it is most interesting and Kenneth's lecture on the trees of Madikwe is both informative and enjoyable.

My husband, I and 2 friends visited the lodge the first week of march 2013. The lodge, the staff and the guides were fabulous.
Our ranger guide was Billy Mkansi, he was fabulous. He is extremenly knowledgable, his grandfather was a game warden in South Africa, so Billy's knowledge is multi-generational. He has a wonderful respect to the animals and for nature and could explain every question we asked. Billy is a special person, he has such an innate understanding of the animals. He showed us lions, cheetahs, elephants, buffalo, white and black rhinos, leopards, jackals and more. At the same time, he protected us while these animals came very close to us.
This was the most awesome trip of my entire life, and I have travelled much of the world.
The staff at the lodge were also gracious and kind.
I live in Michgan and this is a very long trip to make. It was well worth it. and hope to return some day.

My wife and I stayed at Madikwe for 3 full days and it was the most amazing experience of our trip, which included Cape Town and Vic Falls. We stayed at a 5-star hotel in Capetown, and Vic Falls, and Madikwe was our favorite. The place is incredibly well run for being so remote. We left on an amazing emotional high. We loved the staff and rangers. Couldn't recommend it more.

Madikwe is a great place to stay for you if:
-You'd like to be at a place that is based on a sustainable model of tourism, local community support, and wildlife conservation.
-You'd like to avoid ridiculous crowds at game reserves
-You're interested in learning about wildlife and flora.
-You might enjoy being spoiled during your game drive--after seeing some lions, stop to have a little coffee or cocktail break while watching the sunset.
-You like the best of both worlds--being pampered in the wild.
-You like good surprises. The staff likes to do this and is good at it. They go above and beyond.
-You enjoy the company of rangers who genuinely care about the bush and wildlife--they make you feel better that there are people out there like this who are working to conserve it.

A true 5-star place to visit.

Room Tip: We stayed at Kapono lodge. Don't know what the others were like--but we really enjoyed Kopono...

We stayed in the Lelapa Lodge for three nights and were impressed with everything we saw, ate and drank! Our family comprised of four adults and two boys aged 9 and 12. This was the first time that a lodge proactively entertained our children; they learned so much and every member of staff were tuned into their needs as much as ours. Particular mention has to go to Andre who may possibly be the most knowledgeable ranger on the planet. His enthusiasm and understanding of the environment is immense and he made us all feel safe and comfortable. The Lelapa Lodge itself is pristine. We stayed in #2 which has a small separate bedroom for children. Everyone with whom we had interaction was welcoming, friendly and ready to help. One memory that will stay with me is arriving in a clearing in the bush to find a table laid for a light snack with Rebecca and one of the chefs waiting to serve us- it was very Out of Africa! Superior quality, superior service an overall amazing place!

Room Tip: The Lelapa Lodge is geared towards families, there are other sections for couples only. As far as w...

We had the time of our lives in Madikwe Safari Lodge.Of course we also had the company of our best friends ,very important.
The people there were very friendly , we made some new friends and we are still on face-book with them.
The food was excellent we were spoiled. Also very good wine. And the bacardi nights on the open fire......
The rooms were not a 5 star but they are only to sleep in.
The game reserve is huge but every day we could go to an other direction and every day we have seen lots of animals small and big and birds. The ranger gave us also enough anticipation and education about the wild animals.
Also around the pool was a lot to see even at night . I loved it for sure we will go back.
I miss the people there and Geraldine was going out of the way to ensure that everything was fantastic.

Lelapa lodge offers a great all round experience in the African bush. Our room No 10 was excellent, so spacious - huge comfortable bed, indoor and outdoor shower, big bath, big deck with loungers and private plunge pool. There is a choice of meals to suit most tastes and prepared and served beautifully. I have food allergies and they were fantastic in catering to my needs. Our Ranger Jacques was very knowlegeable and went the extra mile to try and find the animals that we wanted specifically to see and kept gving us snippets of information about insects, trees etc. The Game reserve is huge but on each trip out in the game vehicle we had a great viewing experience of animals, birds and other creatures. One has to remember that the animals are wild and move around a lot so a great deal of luck and the rangers experience is required and some game drives will provide more that others but that is what makes a safari trip so special, that anticipation of what you will see and experience on the day. All the staff go out of their way to ensure one has a fantastic time. Beauty our housekeeper ensured our room was clean and tidy, Maureen our bulter waited on us with a wonderful smile and enthusiam and the rest of the staff were alway friendly and efficient, great hospitality! Wish we could have stayed longer, but we will be back.

Room Tip: Lelapa lodge has a section where they accomodate families, so if you want a quiet room just request...
