We just returned from a weekend in Madikwe. We love Madikwe and have stayed at many of the lodges, this was the first time we stayed at Impodimo. The lodge was delightful, setting beautiful, the staff friendly, food good and our ranger and tracker really knowledgable and great guys. As always with Madikwe the animal sighting were incredible. HOWEVER we had to endure all our meals subject to the whims of a 2 year old. We love kids and really 5, 6, 8 10 year olds are no problem at all. A tired, cranky stressed two year old (as she keeps getting tricked and left behind as the parents/grandparents leave her and go on game drives for 4 hours at a time) was not enjoyable. Each meal revolved around all 4 adults speaking only to the kid in loud animated voices. Every breakfast regressed as the kid got more stressed as she knew she was about to be left again, the same chaos at high tea. Then of course there was dinner at 9pm and she was still up as she had to fit into the day's scheudle of the parents...so of course cranky. A game farm is about peaceful quality time, not this at all. Should Impodimo allow one two three four year olds? There is a reason most parents with 1,2,3,4 year olds take them to other types of holidays. Holidays where you can spend quality time with your kids, holidays equipped for two year olds.Should the lodge rather given them there own table or set up for them to eat in the room. Given the immense dangers I am also intrigued that a lodge without fences would conisder accomoating crying two year olds. They cannot particpate in the kids programmes, they cannot go on drives, they cannot fit into the lodges schedules (early breakfasts and late dinners). We paid good money for a quite peaceful few days with nature, away from JHB chaos. Should guests not be warned that they will have to share all meals with a cranky two year old and parents/grand parents who demand that we must all show empathy to what they are going through? We never had the luxury of the ranger walking us back to our lodge to freshen up for dinner as they always had to rush off with the guilt ridden parents.
