From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, we were cared for with friendliness and true hospitality.
The surroundings were wild, but we slept in luxury. The watering hole by the lodge brought all manner of animal and bird to quench their thirst there. We sat quietly observing their habits. This after a very early start to the day. You could of course sit quietly in your lodge which looked across the fields - again full of animals to feast the eyes.
We didn't want to miss anything! We saw everything - including a peep at the shy leopard.
Morning hot drinks and sundowners were a treat! We will certainly go back again. A memory to be treasured for our 12 year old son - a boy's adventure come true.

A great thanks to all of the staff at the Tuningi Safari Lodge, the best holiday experience we have ever had.
The lodge, food, location and especially the game drives were first class, a definite 10 out of 10 experience, one which I would not hesitate to recommend and one we will definitely experience again in the near future.
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and all delivered with a warm and sincere smile, an extra special thanks to Christo for the effort in tracking down the big 5, thank you.

This was our first trip to Madikwe and the Tuningi Safari Lodge and we had 3 fantastic nights. We stayed in a well appointed thatched villa for 2 and enjoyed 2 game drives and 3 meals a day. The staff, without exception, were fantastic - courteous, friendly and knowledgeable. The food was suburb in terms of taste, presentation and variety - from the coffee and muffins on the morning game drive to candle lit dinners in the evening while sitting under the stars.
Bewteen game drives one can relax by one of 2 pools overlooking a waterhole, with your preferred refreshments always close to hand, or chill on your balcony looking out over the bush.

We stayed 4 nights, could have stayed for good. The staff led by Christo and Velma were a sheer delight, like coming home. Food fantastic, luxurious rooms yet homely and relaxed. Ideal to lounge by the pool or out on the Boma with a book, a glass of wine and a bucket full of stories from the days safari experience. We read the reviews and arrived with exceptionally high expectations only to delight in them being exceeded on all levels. Fly in, its so much easier than the drive from Jo'burgh. We're going back at the first opportunity.

Unbelievable luxury lodge ressort in beautifull Game Park Madikwe. We staid for 3 nights in one of the 8 lodges and we had one for 2 persons (they also have 2 great family lodges). So an enormous bedroom (with fireplace), big bathroom, an outside (!) shower (only the elephants or rino's who pass by your lodge can see you taking a shower) and a big terrace al round overviewing nature. belive it or not, but when we first walked on the terrace of our lodge after our arrival we show a black rino just 30 metres from our balcony passing by! Personell did everything to feel you comfortable through out the whole day. Wild live and guides were also great. Together with 2 Danish couples, oud guide Cornelius drove us around for 3 days in the park and showed us the beautifull wild life with serving coffee in the field during sun rise and a cold drink during sun set. Only the leopard was not in the mood to show herself but the rest of the big 5 and all the other beautifull animals and birds showed themselves in all glory.
Food was also good (not special and we have loved to eat some more local wild live food).

I don't think there is one thing I can fault with Tuningi. The location is outstanding; the people are warm, welcoming, friendly and attentive; the facilities are fantastic and the game drives were amazing.
My husband, two sons (aged 11 and 6) and I travelled from Cape Town by air (via Joburg) for a three night stay at Tuningi before returning to the UK. I can honestly say that the three nights spent here completely overshadowed anything that we had experienced in Cape Town (a place which I love).
We were collected from the airstrip by Gavin, who was to be our most impressive ranger for the next three days. Once at the lodge, we were warmly welcomed by Wilma, who gave us a refreshing drink and introduced us to members of the staff. Charity, the barman has an outstanding memory for names and favourite tipples! Our cottage was enormous - far bigger than our own home in the UK. It had a lounge area, kitchen, two huge bedrooms, two bathrooms and two outdoor showers - what a treat! There was a wraparound deck for relaxing and game viewing and everything was clean and luxuriously comfortable. Just about every facility that you could wish for was in the cottage - fridge/freezer, kettle, hairdryer, safe, bathrobes, toiletries, mosquito nets around the beds, air conditioning and the much used fly spray when the rain brought the bugs out.
The food was wonderful, there was lots of it - beautifully prepared and presented. Even kids options were available. There was no fuss made if you could only squeeze in one course at a meal. Nothing was too much trouble.
Our boys were extremely well looked after. They loved splashing in the pool, which overlooks the watering hole and attracted a range of wildlife whilst we were there - a herd of elephants, zebra, wilderbeest, impala, kudu, hyenas and black rhino to name but a few. There was lego to entertain and clay models for them to build. One evening our awesome hostess Heidi, organised a clay animal modelling competition for the boys and a number of the staff were more than happy to join in.
The game drives were fantastic. We shared a jeep with two very amiable, relaxed and fun couples and as each of the couples went home, for the final two drives of our stay, we had Gavin and the jeep to ourselves! Gavin is an absolutely outstanding ranger. He tirelessly searched for game, followed tracks and communicated with other rangers by radio to ensure that we were able to see as many different animals as possible. His ability to multi-task is enviable!
Before the first game drive, Gavin gave the boys books in which to record their animal sightings. The books were full of interesting facts, pictures to colour and space to record data about the game that we viewed. The boys loved these books and they became their main source of entertainment and activity over the next three days. Heidi, even gave them a pack of 'extras' like porcupine quills, feathers etc to stick in their books. I was nervous as to how our 6 year old would cope on the jeep for such long periods of time but I worried unneccessarily - he loved it and was extremely well behaved - he certainly wasn't entertaining the idea of being left with a babysitter in case he missed something exciting! Gavin was more than happy to allow our boys take turns at sitting next to him in the front of the jeep, which they really enjoyed. Morning coffee and evening sundowner stops broke up the journey and were very welcome.
During our three night stay we were truly made to feel part of the Tuningi family. We were so lucky to have found and experienced such an awe inspiring place. We were heartbroken to leave and I hope with all my heart that one day we will be fortunate enough to return.
Our heartfelt thanks to everyone at Tuningi.
