“Real bush experience”
Reviewed May 5, 2007

Of all the safaris we have been on, Mosetlha offers the best combination of the feeling of being part of the bush with simple but comfortable accommodation and exceptional service. None of the over-the-top luxury of so many South African lodges, and all the more friendly for it. Combined with the advantage of being malaria-free and so close to Johannesburg, we intend to return whenever we can.

Just got back from SA last night and wanted to put in my 2 cents for some of my experiences here. Mosetlha is a 4 hour drive from JNB. Me and my brother just rented a car from the airport and managed it no problem considering this is my first time driving on the left handside. A beautiful drive when you get to N4 at Rustenburg. Be careful, because we got stuck in traffic in JNB early in the morning. About the camp, all I can say is positive things. We were a bit worried how primitive it would be, but to learn that it was unfounded. We loved the use of the bush shower, where you get your own hot water and pour it into a bucket, raise it then take a shower. The game drives were great twice a day and 4-5 hours each in a great Land Rover, where they give you blankets if you get cold. But no worries even when we got rained on all fun. They take hot drinks in the morning and cold beverages in the afternoon drive. Food is excellent, three times a day, and more than enough, eaten around a big table for 20 and there are all kinds of drinks available on a honesty basis. You take it from the cooler and put a mark in a piece of paper and pay for all at the end. Bottled water is less than a dollar and cold, a glass of boxed wine is $1.50 and you can open your own bottles of wine just for $8. Also 200ml. drinks of scotch, vodka and all are about $8 also. They have ice, drinkable water and coffee and tea all day free of charge.
After the mornings drive ( 5am-9am) you eat breakfast around 9:30 and lunch is at 2 ish. Then the second drive is from 4pm till 9pm and then dinner and lights out at 10pm. Gas lamps are all around and makes this place very romantic.
About the game drives, which you should be going there to start with, are excellent. 80% of the time you are looking to find the animals, 15% of the time you are watching them, taking photos, and 5% of the time you are just holding your breath, not moving in awe because you just realize that you are in Africa and you are not at the top of the food chain anymore, especially at night drives.
The reserve is huge, in three days we didnt see half of the reserve but we saw lots of animals. 4 of the big five. (Leopards are always the hardest we were told)
But we saw wild dogs, giraffes, zebra, babboons, springbocks, hayeenas, cheetahs, warthogs, wildabeasts, kudu, nyalas, and many more birds, flowers, and smaller animals.
Bring all your batteries. I shot around 1000 photos digital and two batteries were enough for three days, also i shot some film just in case if i had to run out of battery power. Target rich environment for a photographer. Besides the animals the African landscape is stunning.
Hope you find this helpful, I wish I had read a review like this before I went. The Bush camp is for everyone, we had couples in their thirties, we had a father and son from Italy, we had a big South African family (from a 10 year old kid to a 70 year old grandma). OK, I said enough, so go ahead and get your Safari!

Bon Voyage.

November 8-10, 2004, we had the privilege to experience the Madikwe Game Reserve and a stay at the Mosetlha Bush Camp. Both were great experiences! We had barely driven through the gates when we seen zebras, kudus and giraffes and we knew it only would get better and we were not disappointed! The game rides with our driver Karline were awesome. We had many up-close encounters with the animals and have many great pictures. Experiencing the animals in the wild was an experience we'll treasure. We enjoyed the Bush Camp experience and found it more than adequate and the food excellent. The personnel were friendly and very accommodating. Coming back from the evening game ride and seeing the camp lit up with oil lamps was a perfect way to end the day! We would highly recommend this experience to anyone traveling to South Africa!
