I spent my final night in Madikwe in the Bush House after 4 days at the Eco Bush Camp.
My stay was brief but all the staff made me feel very welcome and made my stay a pleasant experience. Everyone was very friendly and the young guide was knowledgeable about the flora and fauna in the reserve.
The hotel was very comfortable, clean and airy with nice gardens and their very own water hole, which attacted many species of game.
All in all an exhilarating experience, would recommend to anyone.

Our family of 12 spent three glorious days at The Bush House. Not only was the accommodation and service superb but the game was just amazing. From rare wild dogs - to 10 lion cubs feeding on a zebra carcass - 27 elephants at The Bush House waterhole....and more.

The staff were so wonderful - caring for our youngest member of 4 months - and attending to our every need. The rangers were so informative and owner Sue went to endless trouble to assist me in the leadup to our stay and afterwards when I left something behind!

I could not recommend the The Bush House highly enough! A must for your bucket list!

We are now back in Gaborone after a wonderful safari weekend at The Bush House in Madikwe Game Reserve. We can only say - Thank you so very much!

Werner, Geraldine and all other staff, you made us feel at home. Calm place, a good relax, excellent game drives and the amazing water hole - wow! We can certainly recommend your lodge to other guests.

We just returned from a trip to South Africa and ended our vacation with four nights at The Bush House. Having been in the "bush" across southern Africa in some pretty remote places before our kids were born, we were a little worried that the proximity to a big city (Jo'burg is less than 4 hours away) may make the Madikwe Reserve, in which The Bush House is situated, a little too commercial for our liking. However, with two young girls, 2 and 4, traveling long distances on untarred roads to remote locations wasn't an option. In fact most safari camps don't allow children which on the one hand is understandable, but unfortunate, especially after seeing how excite my kids were when they saw all the animals in the wild.

The Bush House was perfect in so many ways... Yes, we saw plenty of wildlife: Rhinos galore (on one afternoon/evening we had six separate sightings at the waterhole at the lodge, three with babies - given the rampant poaching, these guys may be extinct by the time my kids grow up), elephants en masse, giraffe, buffalo herds, lions, lions and more lions and cheetahs (as well as a late night visit to the waterhole by a leopard). But what made it truly stand out in our minds (aside from the lovely service and attention to detail) was the set up. The Bush House is enclosed by an electrified fence (which is not visible when you are at the lodge as the fence is cleverly concealed in a ditch in the places it would be visible) and so my kids could safely play in the sprawling garden with plenty of big trees protecting them from the African sun. At the end of the garden there is a fantastic waterhole which is frequented by most of the animals you would see on your drive. The plunge pool is also situated in such a way that you have great views of the comings and goings at the waterhole. The absolute highlight though is the "hide" that Gordon and Sue have spared no expense in installing. When you see animals at the waterhole while in the garden or at the pool, you can slip into the hide through a short tunnel which takes you right to the edge of the waterhole at eye level with the water. This gives you a fantastic perspective - eye to eye with most animals drinking or eye to toe with the elephants). The hide is very comfortable and on some occasions I could have reached out through the slit and touched the elephants' trunks or even petted a family of notoriously skittish wart hog. We ended up not taking advantage of the baby sitting service (provided by the very loving Minky) and one of us stayed at "home" while the other was on the drive. Amazingly, my wife and I would compete for who had the best experience: the one staying behind at the waterhole or the one on the drive.

Young kids typically don't go on the long morning or afternoon drives which can be 3.5 to 4 hours (although one evening and one morning, when we were the only guests at the lodge, Thomas took us all out for about two hours which was perfect for the girls and they loved it). But even when other guests are at the lodge, they organize a "kiddies bumble" after breakfast where the young ones get to go out in the vehicle and see some animals as well (they see so much at the waterhole anyway).

As mentioned earlier, the service is fantastic. Sue and Gordon have gone out of their way to ensure guests feel welcome. All the staff are so friendly and my girls, who are typically shy, felt very at home and would regularly roam into the kitchen to chat with the cook or Minky. Thomas, who was our guide on the trip, was fantastic and good fun. Werner, who took care of us at the bar and in camp couldn't have been a more friendly and likeable guy.

The food was truly delicious, especially the filet we had one night, which melted in our mouth. Meals are served in a variety of locations and settings, which is a nice detail. We really loved the afternoon picnic on the lawn with plenty of plush pillows and blankets around a low table.

Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer... We will definitely be back!

We spent four fantastic nights at the Bush House and were so sad to leave. The owners made us so welcome...felt like being part of a family. The lodge is extremely comfortable...luxury without being pretentious. We had been travelling for two months and this was our last stop. The Bush house had ticks in the box for our wish list....great room, very comfortable large double bed, air conditioning, fridge in our room, wifi, great food. But of course the most important reason for being there is to see the animals. We had two guides, Doey and Thomas...both were very knowledgeable and took great care to find animals for us. We were not let down..elephants, lions with baby cubs, rhino, buffalo, wild Africa dogs, cheetah. The Bush House has a fantastic watering hole where there are regular visits from all sorts of animals. To be close up to a family of elephants is awesome! Many thanks to all the staff for looking after us. Highly recommended.

Had a chance for a quick stopover at the Bush House in 2012. Even though the stop was last minute, the staff and owners could not have been more welcoming. We saw the big 5 and were treated like royalty. The food, service, and show were perfect. I am planning a retirement trip to include my family and the Bush House is in the top three choices of everywhere I have traveled. Definitely want to return.

We had a fantastic stay at Madikwe. We were four persons who had The Bush House for our selfs for two days. We can say that we had safari all night long because the water hole was full of animals from morning until night! Doiry, who was our ranger was really knowledgeable on both animals and plants. The rooms and the food were lovely ! We recommending the warmest!
