Reviewed June 28, 2013

My family of 5, 2 adults and three children aged between 13 and 17 travelled to this lodge to celebrate my husband's birthday. We picked it after our travel agent recommended it to us as she had stayed there previously. We picked the Nare suite to stay in as it provided plenty of room for our family and also meant we could be together as a family. This suite was way above our expectations and the attention to detail was amazing. We loved the outdoor shower where you could watch the parade of animals travel from the waterhole, one afternoon we saw elephant, giraffes, zebra and Impala whilst showering, this is a once in a lifetime experience. The suite is very luxurious and hard to believe most of the walls are canvas. It was winter but we never felt cold, in fact one of my favourite things was to climb into bed at night and enjoy the electric blanket that had been turned on earlier in the evening......bliss!!!

The food at the lodge was always of a high standard and plentiful, the boma was a lovely experience although a little cold. The snacks served with early morning coffee on game drive and then at sundowner drink on evening game drive was always just enough to keep you going. Sundowner drinks in the bush with a lion meters away were also something we never thought we would experience.

Our guide during our game drives was David and he was fantastic, he went above and beyond to make sure we followed the animals through the bushes or found the animals we wanted to see. We searched for the elusive leopard and unfortunately never found one but watching two lions eat a buffalo they had killed, lion cubs playing on the banks of the dam, African wild dogs leaving their den to hunt for food and young elephants at play all made up for this. David was very knowledgable about all the animals and we never realized you could tell so much by an animals poo. These game drives are something we will remember forever and our guide David made them that much more special.

I would highly recommend this lodge as it gives you a great experience in luxury accommodation with wonderful staff who are there to look after anything you might need. We left at 5am on last morning and they woke us, packed us breakfast and drove us to the gate to let us out. . They certainly go above and beyond.

Very stunning and breath taking review and mostly that it was worth it for the rest of the family. Nare suite with the outdoor shower, plunge pool and water whole just in front was designed to put your mind in the wild life and environment bring animals at your door step and glad that it exceeded your expectations. Its cold time of the year and the heating and electric blankets.

The chef go out of the way to deliver the best for to complement the game drives and dedicated staff with awaiting smiles to offer the best service and more fun.

Our guides strive from morning to evening looking for animals and very willing to share every bit of knowledge they have. David making sure that you have the best game drives show as much animals and a wildlife experience ever in Madikwe makes us proud about the rest of your vacation being a success.

Hope to see your friends or you again in the near future

Our group of 10 spent 3 nights at Jaci Safari Lodge with no other guests and overall it was a great experience! Our game ranger David was extremely knowledgable and went the extra mile to find rare sights. We saw lions killing a hyena, a huge pack of wild dogs, cheetahs and other rare sightings. Wonderful dinners were served under the night sky and the food and service were very good. I loved the open gym overlooking the river and bushveld. Madikwe is well worth a visit, especially when guests prefer a malaria free area. The vegetation is beautiful and we saw all the major predators as well as lots of elephant, black and white rhino, buffalo, many antelope, giraffe and lots of rare and wonderful birds species. I missed the impeccable attention to detail and refinement that we experienced at another Madikwe lodge in the same price range, but I can recommend this lodge without any reservation.

Thanks for a honest review we really appreciate every word. All of us here at Jaci’s Lodges enjoy what we do, and we are always happy to share our beautiful corner of the world with our guests.

We are sorry to hear you did not find our service, staff and lodge up to standard and would very much appreciated an email from you with some more detail so we can attend to the details you refer to. my email address is mocca@madikwe.com and I look forward to hearing from you.

Madikwe Game Reserve is indeed a special reserve - with so much less to worry about - having minimal traffic & being malaria free, Great game viewing is an indispensable ingredient for a truly memorable safari experience.
It is fantastic to hear that during your stay at Jaci’s Lodges, you enjoyed the game reserve experience. Our guides are very proud and eager to share the layout of their “home” with its Fauna and Flora to our guests in the best possible way in order for you to take home the most wonderful memories.
We strive to give our guests the best experience and special memories during their stay with us.

Thank you again for your review - we will be sharing your thoughts with the rest of the staff so we can all strive to improve all facets of every guest experience at Jaci's.

We had the most amazing time at this lodge in Feb 2013.

Having been to other lodges in Madikwe on previous trips, we found this to be the best.

The lodge is wonderful, the staff and food was one of the best (esp for me as I am very fussy and veggie).

We decided to drive the long route there then the shorter route back. The gravel road is bad but its 45km of gravel incl some in the Game Reserve, or 50 km on the shorter route of which only 7km is in the reserve but we saved 2 hours and since the route was via Sun City, also familiar.

We saw Wild dogs all 3 days which was my 'Special Request'. The only animals we didn't see were leopards or Cheetah but we expected that.

I would highly recommend Jacis Safari and particular our ranger, David. Very knowledgable and very aware of the animals behaviour. One day we saw 50 elephants arrive to the water as the sun was going down - spectacular.

We have definately changed our mind about Madikwe.

One word of warning - do insist on an itemised drinks bill - ours was double that it should have been!

Room Tip: Room 5 is nice if you dont want to be too close to a potentially noisy pool area.

This is an amazing review with lots motivation and full appreciation that brings high moral to the staff. We are very happy that you had a great time. As you have been to Madikwe before and find the lodge being the best makes us proud.
Staff and guides pride themselves on being attentive to the guest needs. When you return David will continue to share his immense knowledge, show you the special parts of the reserve that list Madikwe as one of the best reserves to enjoy wild life.
We highly recommend that you always ask for a breakdown, as there can be occasional errors between room accounts. The issue of overcharging was happily rectified once brought to our attention. Wishing it could have been better than this we really apologize and we will learn to be extra careful in the future.
Looking forward to welcome you back again with a smile.

We stayed 5 nights at Jaci's and we shall never forget them! To set the scene, one morning we awoke to the amazing sound of a lion's call, close to the camp (no worries since they have an electric fence--so that was only a thrilling experience). As one of our fellow lodge-dwellers from the UK put it, Jaci's was "five-star camping." And truly it was. Luxury tents, super cool interior, but freezing cold at night and for showers in the morning. Jaci's makes a fire in your room before you return from dinner, they have electric blankets, and in the morning before the rides they awake you in your room with hot tea. All wonderful-- and all necessary if you're there in the winter (we were there June-July). And definitely don't leave food in your tent/room because yes, the cute little monkeys will enter to feast during the day when they open up everyones' tents. To the staff: enthusiastic and welcoming. The meals: cozy and delicious. But one cannot rate Jaci's as a hotel alone, since the game rides (we did 10 total) were an essential part of the experience. Our guide David was rather shy, but we all really liked him because he knew everything about the animals and area-- and we appreciated his being even-keel while being surrounded by certain members of the Big Five and their brethren. : ) We saw dozens of different types of animals, including those that are rather rare, such as Wild Dogs. We haven't been to Masai Mara, but various fellow game riders said there were fewer animals running around everywhere than in Kenya (which they described as an almost zoo-like experience), but that this was better in many ways because the animals were more elusive/in their natural habitat-- and that we saw more variety here. (A quick footnote re Madikwe: I was newly pregnant while we were on vacation in South Africa and we chose Madikwe vs. Kruger because Kruger is malarial, but Madikwe thankfully is not.) BTW I've attached two photos-- I took hundreds so it's impossible to choose, especially of the many close-ups of the animals, but I selected an elephant charging a pack of lions since it was an incredible scene. In sum, a highly recommendable experience at Jaci's and at Madikwe... you must go!

Room Tip: Be open-minded about staying in the tent rooms and you'll have a very memorable experience--surr...

Thank you for your great review, we really appreciate every word. All of us here at Jaci’s Lodges really enjoy what we do, and we are always happy to share our beautiful corner of the world with our guests. Madikwe Game Reserve is one of the many amazing reserve’s in South Africa, with so much less to worry about-having minimal traffic and being malaria free- and thus we are really happy to know that you felt looked after by all the departments at Jaci’s Lodges. Good food and good game viewing are indispensable ingredients for a truly memorable safari experience.
It is fantastic to hear that during your stay at Jaci’s Lodges ,we were able to exceed all your expectations on your game viewing . Our guides are very proud and eager to share the layout of their “home” with its Fauna and Flora to our guests in the best possible way in order for our guests to take home the most wonderful memories anyone could ever think off, due to their passion.
As everyone know, Every lodge is different and unique in its own way and want to give their view on the Bush experience to the guests . Here at Jaci’s Lodges we like to keep things “down to earth” concerning detail. We love to show off the Bush inside the lodge- so no “refined hotel look”. We strive to give our guests the best experience and special memories during their stay, its all about the bush experience.
We are very proud with each of our chalets that are comfortably designed, each on the fence line giving the opportunity to view wildlife in their coming and going from the room’s deck.
We are looking forward to welcoming you back and make your next safari adventure just as memorable as the first, if not better.

We just returned from Jaci's Safari Lodge and had a great time. Thomas, our guide, was the best. We saw more animlas than we ever expected thanks to the knowledge of Thomas. Each game drive was informative and rewarding. Thomas knew where to go, and has amazing eye sight to catch animals we never would have seen. He was great with the kids... and the kids keep saying that they really enjoyed Thomas.

The room was fantastic. With eight rooms and two suites you get real personal attention. We never needed to ask for anything... everything was taken care of. The meals were great. When we returned from our morning game drive we have a great brunch. When we came back from our afternoon drive the evening meals were fantastic. Thanks everyone at Jaci's who made the trip so special!

Room Tip: The suites are nice... but all rooms are large and should be enough for your stay. But, if you are...

Our 2 night stay Jaci's Safari Lodge turned out to be one of our most memorable trips. We have stayed at many game farms and this one proves to be one of the most authentic experiences. The rooms and decor remain true to the surroundings. Although not my taste, the rooms were comfortable and had a wonderful bush ambience.
Jaci's strengths lie in their commitment to service excellence. The service makes up for what it lacks in decor. The staff, from Wilkins, Millicent, the gregarious chef to our game ranger Paul made us feel at home in their 'home'. The special attention paid to the children was incredible.
Our game viewing was top notch. We managed to see all the game we wanted to see. Paul was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. Food in general was far superior to other lodges.
We will definitely return for another adventure.

Jaci's is a wonderful lodge in a unique part of Africa. In my experience, ask anyone from outside of the Continent about game parks in southern Africa, and they will invariably mention Kruger or the Okavango Delta, which are obviously amazing parks. However, few people, outside of those in-the-know, will mention Madikwe, and this is too bad because the park would be a wonderful addition to any tour.

If you happen to make it to Madikwe, Jaci's would be an excellent choice. The chalets are overly spacious, comfortable, and well-appointed. The main lodge is a great place to relax and unwind from a day of game drives, which are managed very well by the lodge's guides, who are knowledgeable and highly proficient at tracking all of Madikwe's beasts. The food was top-notch, and the service left nothing to be desired. You won't be disappointed with Jaci's.

Room Tip: They all seem excellent.
