“Nice lodge, but reserve not as good as sabi sand”
Reviewed April 9, 2012 via mobile

We picked Jaci's because we were traveling with our kids and the area is malaria-free. The lodge is nice and the service impeccable. The room was nice, right next to a water hole which was constantly visited by elephants during our four nights stay. The reserve, however, feels a bit artificial compared to other places we have been to in Botswana or Sabi Sand. You see the fence to often.

The game viewing was good to very good, with a special mention to the rare wild dogs pack that roams around Jaci's. So I would recommend it for first timers on a safari, especially with children. The staff was fantastic with my kids. A special thanks to Moca who went out of his way to return my son's iPod that was forgotten in the room.

We are so glad that you often saw elephants at the Nare Suite waterhole. It is quite special to see the wild dogs as they are one of Africa’s most endangered predators. One of the reserve perimeter fences is in the process of being moved and then will not be visible on game drives. We are pleased that our service is impeccable and will continue to do all we can for the comfort of our guests at Jaci’s.

My family and I have just returned from a three night stay at the Safari Lodge and have nothing but great things to say about it. The facilities were very clean and the staff was so accomodating. First off it was a beautiful property that had so much character, my boys ages 7 and 5 fell in love with the room. They thought it was the coolest thing ever except for maybe the outdoor shower. One of my son's loved the shower so much that he was up to showering 3 times a day. We were woken to sweet callings of our ranger Ollie. He was knowledge and the boys would fight over who got to sit next to him at dinner. The food was awesome and the game was great. My father has been to Kruger many times and said that he enjoyed Madikwe more and will now be coming back. Overall was a great experience.

We are thrilled to hear that you and your family all had an amazing time. Our rangers are always furthering their knowledge and enjoy sharing their passion of the bush with their guests. All our rooms have outdoor showers- a chance to view the birdlife while showering!

My husband and I spent 5 fantastic days at Jaci's. Our accommodations were outstanding.
We arrived to a cheery hello and a welcome drink. Before we knew it we were on our first drive.
Our guide, Johan, knew just the right places to look for wildlife and wow did we find it. Within the first hour we were within feet of lions.
Each drive was as exciting as the first. Johan was informative and I was impressed with the communications between all guides to find the "best stuff", which Johan was happy to do. The routine for drives is well planned from wake ups to tea stops to delivery "home".
Our dinners were delicious. There is no shortage of foods here, and the staff was eager to show us the vegetarian options. Our BOMA dinners were lots of fun, Loved the singing!!!
We came away very satisfied and with more photos than our friends can stand.

It is lovely to hear that your stay was fantastic in many ways. Our boma dinners are very popular- meal served by the fire, under the stars and accompanied by traditional African singing. We happily cater for any dietary requirements. Game drives are exciting, especially when you get close to the lions!

We stayed in a family suite very charming, confortable with our private swimming pool and a view on a pond where animals were coming to drink. The service was very welcoming and the staf was nice. We had our own ranger for the game drive and they were outstanding. We could for example see lions from very close many times! We will come back

We stayed here for 3 nights during the Easter break, it was very full and clearly the place was at full stretch, however the staff are excellent and extremely helpful particularly with the kids, being flexible with the food offer at meal times and generally very patient answering hundreds of questions etc!!
Being busy there was little flexibility inactivities, drives wee at set times and with other families (you can book a private vehicle if you wish), it can be frustrating waiting around for another family to turn up for the drive!
Our room was great, fairly normal safari lodge made from brick, wood and thatch with some canvas, nice open air shower and small deck to the front, always kept clean and spotless, we imagine a bit of a squash with 2 kids or more.
Location is fairly out there on the Botswana/SA border and is a bit of a drive!! Amenities were first class with huge main lodge building, swimming pool, kids activities and access to Tree tops Lodge next door. Safari vehicles were open sided Landcruisers and ponchos were included!! Needed these a couple of times on very wet drives! Driver guides were top notch and very good with the kids.
We liked the game drives the best and the long meal times the least, with so many people saying, food service was at times slow (not good with a tired 6 year old!!)
Would return there but would be more careful about the time of year and hopefully stay when it was less busy.

Room Tip: Ask for on of the rooms halfway along the row

We are happy you enjoyed your family holiday. The rooms can fit up to three stretcher beds for children, but it will be cosy. There is the option of the complimentary babysitting service, which is included during game drives and dinner. Children eat early and are cared for until parents return to the room. It is great that the game drives were the highlight of your stay.

We stayed at Jaci's safari lodge this past weekend with another couple and our 4 children under 6. There were some highlights and some definite low-lights We were given the safari suite, which is a 3 bedroom suite with a loft. Our side of the lodge was average to say the least. Definitely not 5 star! Our bedroom was pokey, dark, and cold. The cupboard was tiny, with no hangers. We had a cold bathroom, with old towels, and bathmats.
The kitchenette's plates and cups were dirty, and the whole suite was a bit dingy. That said the other couple had much more spacious and sunny room.
The highlight was our Ranger, who was very accommodating, friendly and informative and our game drives were lots of fun and we saw a fair amount of game.
The child minders were friendly enough, but we would have liked some more activities for our children, instead of just shipping them off to the playroom.
We enjoyed our weekend, but when we left we felt that we did not receive value for our money.
Our children had a good time, and they enjoyed their game drives.

Room Tip: Dont get the Safari suite!!

We are pleased to hear that your children enjoyed the safaris, both the sightings and the informative, friendly guide. In-between the game drives we offer education activities for children with a ranger. Since your review there have been many positive changes made to the Safari Suite and we welcome you back to see the improvements.
