“Perfect!”
Reviewed May 7, 2014

We stayed for 3 nights at Jamala Madikwe during out honeymoon and the safari experience couldn't get any better. The lodge is small (only 5 villas - villas are very spacious), beautiful and private, perfect for watching the various animals that attend the water hole from the deck, having some snaks and drinks. The staff couldn't be more attentive and food is amazing. Safari drives twice a day in a very well kept and organized reserve. I strongly recommend it!

Room Tip: Best to stay closer to the main lodge.

We stayed 3 nights at Jamala lodge and can only feel sorry we had to leave so soon. it is not often we have come across a perfect holiday place- Jamala is just that. everything and everyone at the lodge make you feel in an ideal setting, with lots of personal attention and great attention to detail. The lodge is beautiful and decorated with much taste. Rodney and Nico who run it have a very warm way with guests and they share their knowledge of the place and environment in a very nice way. The Safari ranger was also just perfect.
Will definitely go back anytime and hopefully soon!

We have just returned from a two week holiday in South Africa. Our first stop there was two nights at Jamala Madikwe and it was the absolute highlight of our holiday. The minute we arrived at the Lodge we knew this was going to be a magical stay. My husband and I brought our young 12 year old son Tom with us and although I think this resort is mainly aimed at adults, Tom was made to feel equally welcome and the lodge set up an extra bed in our villa to accommodate our son. We were greeted on arrival by Rodney and Nico with a glass of chilled champagne as we took in the spectacular views from the veranda of zebras, wildebeest and even a giraffe drinking at the waterhole behind the Lodge. Rodney and Nico chatted to us as if we were old friends and made us feel extremely comfortable. We were then shown our villa (there are 5 in total) which was beautifully decorated - stunning. We stayed for two nights which was definitely not long enough. Everything was absolutely perfect from the surroundings, the food (outstanding and presented each evening personally by the chefs), the staff (genuinely warm, efficient, professional and friendly), the game drives (Daniel was an exceptionally patient and knowledgeable ranger ably assisted by Dwayne) and just the overall feeling that you were very much part of the "family". Every detail was covered - a hot bath was drawn every night in our villa when we returned from the evening game drive and they left a beautiful parting gift on our table at breakfast the morning we were leaving - and it was all done without any fanfare. We were very sad the leave Jamala Madikwe and indeed my son was particularly upset and wants to know when we are going back.....which we will definitely do. If you are considering treating yourself to a special safari trip, don't miss out on this gem!

Room Tip: All five villas are equally divine!

Jamala Madikwe was a dream come true. The food, the wine, the service, the rooms, the people were ALL outstanding. The safari tour guides were not just so knowledgable… they were warm and charismatic. We were sad to say good bye. If you can make it happen… trust me your expectations will be surpassed. If you go in winter like we did, it is worth it to pack wool socks, long johns, and proper gear for keeping your face and head/ears warm. They give you hot water bottles and blankets which help but its freezing in an open air vehicle. I wish we'd been less worried about bug spray (saw no mosquitoes) & brought our winter gear. If there are animals out, your guides WILL FIND. We saw everything! The most difficult part was coming back to "real life" after living like a celebrity for 3 days.

Dear gshickler
I am so happy to receive a great review from you, thank you.
We do try and offer the best food and service in Madikwe, and recently won Best Safari Cuisine in Africa 2014. The guides are so enthusiastic and passionate about Africa.

We are heading into cooler weather now and June/ July can be very cold especially on game drive early morning. The bugs are not to bad and mosquitos only bite me nobody else luckily no malaria so no need for anti-malaria medication.

I am so glad you felt like a celebrity with us, that's how we want every guest to feel. We hope to have you visit us again.

This is my second Safari, and my first in South Africa. Staying in this hotel is just an amazing experience. The hotel has few beautiful villas and is breathtaking.
All the villas have a little swimming pool and total privacy. From the room you can see the animals coming to eat and drink water in front of your room !!! is incredible !!! the rooms are beautiful, with big space, two showers ( one outside and one inside ), a living room, a little dinning room ( if you want to eat in the room ) , the bed is big and great !!! and the rooms also have a tub that they have ready with hot water in the afternoon when you come back from the safari !! ; the decoration of the villas and the main lobby is very beautiful. They take care of every detail !!!! The owner is so nice and knowledgeable. He takes care of every detail. The people that works there are so friendly. Even though I did not use the spa, is the best I have seen .They even have a little gym where you can jog looking at the wild animals coming to eat in front of you. The ranger that takes out is so nice and knows everything about the animals.
This is a place not only for a safari, but to relax; perfect for a honey moon. Don't miss it if you can.
The food is superb !!! they have a chef that comes out every night to tell you about the choices !!! is better than a 5 star restaurant. The wine is also superb.

Room Tip: Any room as they all look to the place where animals come to eat and drink. They are all privet and...

Dear Maria Virginia V
We are always blown away when we get great reviews, and yours is no different.
The rooms were designed to offer great views over the Jamala waterhole whilst always remaining private and comfortable. We always try and make each guest stay special, running a bubble bath for you is just a small gesture. The team and I take great care in the food we prepare and I am so pleased you enjoyed it.

We do get a lot of honeymoon couples and its safe to say Jamala is a true romantic African getaway. We hope to see you return to this beautiful lodge.

A superb experience. Communication in setting up the reservation was excellent. They arranged the flight for us from Johannesburg. They met us at the landing strip and brought us to the lodge for a very warm welcome, escorted us to our lodge which was extraordinary in its comforts. I just could not expect such comfortable surroundings in the wild bush.
Hospitality was excellent. The meals were excellent and ideal for those with dietary problems.
We stayed 3 nights, had our own driver/ranger who made sure that we saw all the lovely animals that inhabit this area. We indeed saw the big "5". They made sure that we had enough trips out to the bush to se it all. A magnificent experience . If you go on Safari, this is the place to do it, and one more bonus, it is in a mosquito free zone, so no anti-malarial medication is necessary.

Room Tip: 5 villas, all equal.

Hi pbenj
We are so happy to get this great review from you. Rodney the owner handles most of the reservations and booking details himself, so we know guests are well looked after even before they arrive. We love that you found the lodge so comfortable, and yes considering its location it is very special.

I am also happy you enjoyed the drives and no malaria is such a plus for us.

I am so pleased you enjoyed the food, we just won: Best Safari Cuisine in Africa 2014 and published the Cook Book. We hope that you will return to Africa and stay with us again.
