This was our fourth trip to Africa and I have to say the best. I have never written a review but after staying at Royal Madikwe I am compelled.
It's hard to know where to atart..
First and foremost was the personalized service. Whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted it. Friendly yet low key. It is like staying at someone's home. The accommodations were first rate, the food outstanding and the flexibility of the staff beyond reproach.

I have stayed at Singita, Londolozi and other upscale safari camps but the staff at Madikwe outdid them all. From the moment we arrived to the time we left nothing was too difficult.

I could go on and on but it would all be the same, fantastic.

The game viewing was also excellent. 30 elephants drinking out of the hotel pool at lunch. Lions near the airstrip within 3 feet of our vehicle. A wild dog kill not 10 minutes into our first game drive. What more could you ask for.

Food that was on a par with fine restaurants, a BBQ with local dishes beyond great. Whatever wine we wanted...all included.

The rooms (actually gigantic suites) were modern, comfortable and clean.

Overall a five star experience. Wish I could go back today.

We visited Royal Madikwe on a family holiday in October 2010 and we were just blown away by the whole experience. From the moment we were greeted on arrival by a chorus from all the staff to the minute we departed with a tear in our eyes with the staff singing for us once again, we had the most fabulous time.

The accommodation, the service, the food, the accommodation, the location, the safari trips and above all the staff were all absolutely fantastic. Dreinie and her team struck the perfect balance of always being there for us without ever being intrusive. Andrew was knowledgable and informative on our safari trips - a mix of dawn, evening and day trips, each providing us with a different experience and opportunity to see the most amazing wild life at close quarters.

Too many special memories to report here but I must make mention of watching 2 lions lying by the roadside enjoying the morning sun, whilst occasionally lifting their head to check that all was ok. Also, sitting outside our lodge, watching elephants and zebras coming to the nearby watering hole for their daily top up, whilst almost being within touching distance.

If you are considering this place for your holiday, do not hesitate to book it, you will not be disappointed!

We will be back again one day!!!

Royal is definitely the word for it. The setting is beautiful, the lodge incredibly luxurious and the food is out of this world. I am not sure how they do it but all the staff at Royal Madikwe made us feel so welcome where nothing was too much trouble but in such a relaxed way. It is a fantastic place to take children and our three loved every minute. The game drives were informative and our guide, Andrew, wonderful. We cannot recommend the lodge highly enough- we had one of the best holidays ever and would love to return someday...

Room Tip: The Royal Suite is perfect for families.

One takes it for granted that, at this quality level of an hotel, the service standards, staff attention, beauty, safari and dining experience will be very high indeed. Where my partner and I found that this hotel scored heavily was the thoughtfulness of the staff. For example, following our evening ride, we returned to find our dinner set up, with candle lit lighting closely over-looking the neighbouring water hole. At the conclusion of our magical meal, we returned to our cabin to find a newly drawn bath, with champagne with the water strewn with flower petals. What a memory.
It is this that raises The Royal Madikwe from very very good to marvellous.

Room Tip: All the rooms were superb.

Eight of us stayed in October 2006 I cannot praise it highly enough, The service was so attentive without being intrusive and nothing was too much trouble, The lodge and the rooms absolutely stunning - I an in danger of running out of superlatives, The game viewing was made all the better by the knowlege of our ranger Riian and the charm of both him and our guide Dinamosi (sp?) We saw the big 5 on our final night and an altercation between a lioness with cubs and another pride, it was thrilling. We all hope to return some day.

Royal Madikwe is a fantastic safari Lodge located in the magnificent Madikwe Game Reserve. 75 000 hectares of undiluted safari pleasure in a big five reserve. Malaria free and home to a gorgeous wild dog population, abundance of lions, rhino, buffalo, hyenas, elephants (and so much more) The Royal Madikwe Family made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived and we soon fell in love with our paradise in the bush. The lodges Villa concept is suitable for a variety of market needs tailor making and personalising your experience from the word go. An abundance of excellent food, great game viewing whilst being hosted in a relaxed but gorgeous setting - Royal is an apt term for this lodge. Excellent for families and anyone looking for a luxurious and private get away. Having stayed at many lodges and reserves, I can honestly say that Royal Madikwe blew me away. I would recommend Royal Madikwe to anyone looking for a luxurious getaway in the Madikwe Reserve.
