This Lodge and the staff is absolutely fantastic. I almost want to keep it to myself as I would hate it to become too popular. Everything was perfect!

We stayed in the Hanglip Mountain lodge during a three day safari game drive as a part of our great South-Africa tour.
We had such a fantastic experience here !!!
The lodges are of a high luxurious standard and the Manager Tom and his staff was very accommodating and professional during the game drives, many thanks to Sander the ranger !!!
Breakfast, lunch and diners were very tasty, and don't forget the splendid afternoon tea.
The highlight of our stay were the three game drives, my god, did we see wild animals...a lot of !!!
We even had the chance to witness a Cheetah attack (see picture taken after the chase).
Do not hesitate to book this place for your game drive safaris, you will not regret it.

Room Tip: all lodges are the same and in a comparable location.

...imagine this scene...right after check-in with a chilled G & T in hand we relaxed on the patio of our room at Hanglip Mountain Lodge, enjoying the beautiful bush scene of the river and the mountains when out-of-the-corner of my eye I saw movement...I nearly dropped my drink when I realised it is two grown Lions not 50 meters from our room...I nearly fainted when a third lion made its appearance and started walking away from us...we watched all three lions for more than 45 minutes from the luxury of our room's patio...MAGIC!!!
Hanglip is a very special place in the sense that it is an old transformed farmhouse with wide open spaces (for watching lions from your room!) and the typical South African hospitality. Beautiful food and excellent service!
Excellent value for money with none of the pretentiousness of luxury game lodges. !

Room Tip: One of the "end" rooms on either side.

We can not fault this place and the staff made it fantastic. Upon arrival we were greeted by the staff and then dinner was waiting for us . We met our Ranger Pheanius who was also amazing with such knowledge and experience. Unfortunately we only stayed 4 nights and could have quite easily have stayed another week. The lodges were perfect and we felt so lucky to have chosen this place to stay. The views out of our bedroom and bathrooms were amazing and you feel like you are safe but able to experience the wildlife up close. One night there had actually been lions walking past whilst we slept as we were awoken by some growling ... this just added to the feeling that you are truly in the wild and such a wonderful place.
The food was also lovely and more than you could eat ! Afternoon tea's , morning cuppas and snacks , followed by three full meals , can never be said there was not enough!
The actual game drives were great, we found we liked the early mornings better than the evenings but the evenings give you different animals to see and a whole different perspective. Our children , 22 and 13 years thought it was the most amazing thing they had done and that is quite an achievement after living and moving abroad a lot. They loved our ranger who was fantastic,,,, I can go on and on as the manager was so helpful and the staff perfect. Even sang to us on a couple of evenings and that was also very special.
Would absolutely recommend and is still one of our best places on on 3 month tour of the southern hemisphere.
This time of year was also good as it was not too warm and the trees are not all in leaf so we could see the animals better. We have some amazing photo's and the great thing is that they can get real close up. Keep up the great work and looking forward to returning soon.

Room Tip: Any room here as there is only 10 lodges and all are so close to main area and pool.

We are a family of five - two adults, three children aged 12, 9 and 4 (almost 5). We moved across to the Hanglip Lodge after booking to stay at the Wildside Camp - hadn't realized that it was tents and we wanted proper rooms. We had two rooms - well appointed but not inter-connected - and since the lodge only has ten rooms in total, we felt like we had the place to ourself. The views and setting are truly spectacular and the service/food at the hotel is amazing. Our guide, Kyle, was brilliant - knoweldgeable and friendly - and we saw so many animals and amazing sights (drove up the crevice in the jeep to the mountain top, went swimming in a rock pool, visited the animal breeding center, etc). Something different every day. We also played golf at the Legends Resort (lovely course) and attempted the Extreme 19th Hole - gimmicky but well worth it - once in a lifetime thing. Would definiely recommend this hotel and intend to go back. Five stars all round.

We arrived not knowing WHAT to expect but were greeted by a welcoming party at the door. We met our ranger Simon, a soft spoken but turned out to be an extremely experienced “Game Field Guide”. He showed us to our lodge, a beautiful space with decoration that evoke the romantic Africa of yesteryear, but with all modern utilities, and a much needed fireplace.
All together, we went on 6 game drives, in the 3 nights/4 days stay. We saw more animals than we had ever imagined and we got close, VERY close to magnificent wild beasts such as cheetahs, lions, rhinos, jackals, hippos, elephants and etc. We saw lions hunt at night, we saw the lion king roared, again and again, and we saw lions eating their kill less than 20 feet away. Because this is a private reserve, the ranger was able to drive off the road and get close to the animals, it felt a little too close at times but we were in safe hands. We even saw a juvenile black mamba at arm’s length. Our guide Simon explained everything to us and was very accommodating.
Our last night in the reserve was our 10th wedding anniversary. The lodge manager Tom arranged a special dinner for us, to dine in their wine cellar all by ourselves. At the end of our dinner, our Zulu chef even came in and sang a beautiful Zulu song for us.
The staffs are very friendly and very helpful. Just one thing to keep in mind, most of the meals (if not all) are of buffet style. But, you can choose to dine in any of the other lodges (i.e. Lakeside Lodge or Wildside) within Entabeni Game Reserve and your ranger will take you there. They will even pack a picnic basket for you so you can stop by a beautiful (but safe) spot for lunch. They even send us a dish of sandwiches one afternoon waiting for us in our room when we came back from a game drive.
We went in early September so it’s their early spring. It was a lot colder than we had anticipated but thankfully there are blankets on the jeep/rover for those 6am and evening game drives. The coffee break during the morning drive is much welcome, and very safari romantic.

Although our visit was during the British Lions Rugby tour we took the chance to view some real Lions at home in their natural surroundings and what surroundings they were, apparently given its name by the mountains which overlook the reserve, our lodges were very impressive and as there were sixteen of us we took up almost all of the lodges. As it was their winter we found the days were warm enough to be poolside but it did get very cold out on the drives, the drives were early morning and evenings, and did take up the best part of the day leaving us a few hour to chill out around mid-day, we stayed for two nights and managed to see most of the parks wildlife lions, elephants, cheetahs, rhino, hippo, giraffe etc. The staff and rangers were excellent, food was very good and clean lodges made for another high point to our very memorable tour, would recommend the lodges should imagine a stay in their summer may be even better.
