If you are looking for a fun and easy safari stay, this is it! We stayed at the Riverdene Lodge for just 2 nights (wish we had done at least 3 nights) and it was fantastic! The hotel staff we the friendliest people I have ever met, they really love their jobs.
The rooms are large, comfortable and have a large open-plan bathroom with a tub and shower. My bedroom had a king-size bed and a small unit with a TV and safe. The TV was a bit out of date (as most hotels have plazma TVs these days), but I don't think I used it once. You are not here to watch TV, you are here for safari!
The main part of the hotel has a great living room area with a fire place. It was nice to warm up here with a drink after the evening game drive. The restaurant was comfortable with an excellent selection of food! The garden was really pretty, with views over the plains and bougainvillia everywhere. Then the swimming pool was an infintiy pool also with excellent views and lounge chairs.
The safari experience was fantastic. Our game ranger (Simon) was a foutain of endless knoweldge. His passon for his job and love of animal was almost contageous. In our 2 days there we came across a large number of buck speices, a pride of lions (twice), a huge number of rhinos (both black and white), elephant, giraffe, cheetah, hippos, zebras... the list goes on and on. Ensure you bring extra memory and batteries for your camera, as you never stop taking photos!!

I can only say good things about Long Lee. The staff were all lovely and friendly and helpful. The room was amazing, we had a balcony looking over the pool and amazing view into the reserve. The bedroom was huge with a four poster bed and equally huge bathroom. Our ranger, Pascale, was fantastic and made us feel really welcome - above all she was a great ranger and very knowledgeable (and also the best equipped person I've seen for sundowner drinks!)

The game drives were great although we didn't see as much as we have done in previous safari's but then again Shamwari is huge. We were lucky to see a poor dead hippo (not lucky for the hippo) and then a pride of lions chewing it on the evening game drive - awesome.

Food was excellent - loved the braii around the boma

This trip was part of our honeymoon and after the first game drive we got back to our room to find a bubble bath with rose petals and candles with a bottle of wine and chocolates - a lovely touch.

We had to leave early for the airport and they packed us a little breakfast/lunch to take with us

Fantastic place - would recommend to anyone.

My husband and I spent 2 nights here in Oct and had a fabulous time. We got a terrific deal through Colin at NMB tours (randomly found him on the net) and have nothing but praise and gratitude. We had 2 nights at Shamwari and 3 nights free at the Bishopscourt hotel in Cape town. What value for money and all bookings were spot on.
Shamwari is an amazing game park and to a certain extent it can be luck of the draw as to what you see. Well we were very lucky. Actually our guide drove a crazy route through the park one morning and found us a leopard under a tree. How they find these animals in 25,000 h of park is amazing. Our last drive in the mornig the animals were everywhere, as if they had come out on cue for us!! Just metres from the lodge were elephants...it's truely fantastic. I would like to have done 4 nights. Even if you don't see any animals you could have the time of your life eating as the food is so amazing!!! We were upgraded to Eagles Crag and WOW!!! I just wish it were a little warmer so we could have used the private plunge pool. The coordination of the place is fantastic. You come back from the morning game drive and breakfast is all laid out and exquisite. You come back from the evening game drive and they have a BBQ and outdoor fire all set up with your own beautifully laid table. You go back to your room and all bed has been all turned down. It's hard to go back home!!! Treat yourself to stay here, it's just great.

Our stay at Bayethe exceeded anything we could have hoped for. Our superior 'tent' was just fantastic and despite being concerned that I might not sleep with the animals being close by, in fact it was no problem and I slept soundly in the large, luxurious bed. The outdoor shower was exhilirating! Every attention to detail was paid by the staff and there was an amazing choice each day from the menu's - we certainly ate well. We were really impressed with JR our ranger and he looked after us extremely well. His knowledge was impressive as were his driving skills! He showed us some amazing and unforgettable sights and his love of his job shone through. A fabulous picnic was laid on one day on one of our drives- unbelievable food on starched tablecloths with china crockery and silver cutlery set out in the middle of somewhere on the reserve. I could not rate our experience highly enough - thankyou, thankyou, thankyou

On choosing Shamwari, Bayethe appealed for its closer-to-nature tented accommodation, outdoor showers, authentic central lodge and braai on the boma. The luxury 'tent' was truly luxurious, with a wooden support structure, high thatched ceiling, comfy sofa and bed, stylish bathroom, private game viewing deck and plunge pool. And yes, it was fun to shower in the fresh air with monkeys peeping out from the trees!

The game drives were sensational beyond belief. (I wore skiing gear, which kept me warm and dry.) We were lucky enough to have great company on the game drives, and an exceptional ranger, Headman, to guide our safari experience. He had a great knowledge and understanding of the animals, explaining their behaviour and often able to anticipate their next moves. His steady driving skills, eye for a great photo angle and lively sense of fun ensured that each of our 10 game drives left us with special memories: baby elephants suckling, listening to an infant rhino squeak, two cheetahs grooming each other, a giraffe sitting down, a zebra rolling in the dust, being close enough to hear a female leopard purr.... Another highlight was our guided bush walk, when we learned a lot about dung (who'd have ever thought it could be so interesting, seriously?!) then tracked, and got to within a few metres of an adult male buffalo. Thank you, Headman, we'll never forget you.

Another thing surprised us about Bayethe - we had never expected 5 star dining in the African bush, with a la carte choice at breakfast, lunch and dinner The service, food and wine list were faultless; the selection of meat, fish, traditional stews, salads and desserts offered during the braai were amazing. After 5 days in Shamwari, my new jeans don't fit, but hey, do I really care?!

Thanks a million to Darren, Headman, Julius and the Bayethe team - we had the time of our lives.
