Went to eagles cragg on safari. Accommodation was amazing with each room having its own private deck with a plunge pool.

Service was 5 star and the quality of the food everyday was just amazing. The only downside- is that you eat breakfast and dinner with ur fellow safari guests and ur ranger (6 max at each table)- but that is really typical of any safari lodge.

Also, this place only does one activity- safari there is absolutely nothing else do here. Your day starts with a wake up call at 5am and ur to meet by 5.30am for coffee/tea and fruit kebabs before ur safari begins at 6am. You then come back for breakfast at 9am and then return to bed and waken for u lunch at 2pm.

The 2nd safari drive starts at 4pm-7/8pm and then dinner is between 8.30/9pm.

The safaris are out of this world- i have been on several others around africa and nowhere else have i come so close to the animals. We saw lions everyday- along with black/white rhino, elephants, and the usual smaller game. Our highlight however was the ability to track cheetah- ended up seeing 3 and a leopard. No where else have I been able to see such rare sightings and been so close to them.

Would recommend this lodge and game reserve to anyone- especially as u dont need to take malaria tablets!! I would only recommend the max of 3nights here as we stayed a bit longer and got a bit bored. Also, make sure u realise that the eastern cape has a wet season in their summer- we didnt and got soaked on the safaris!!!

We also stopped at longley manor- but for me it was very colonial and very old fashioned.

There was a lot of 'umming and arring' before we booked up because of the price although after reading reviews primarily from Trip Advisor we went ahead ....and yes it was worth every penny!
We stayed in Long Lee Manor for 2 nights in November, our room was one of the newer ones, very large, balcony with a fantastic view, with room servicing and attention to detail second to none (although we didn't actually spent that much time in it).
All meals and booze were included. The food was good although possibly a little unimaginative.
You're up at 05:00hrs for your morning game drive, then back for breakfast, have midday free, lunch, out again late afternoon for the second drive, quick shower, sundowner, dinner and then to bed by 23:00hrs ...and then it all starts all over again.
The game drives where an excellent experiance, we did see all the 'Big Five' and we considered ourselves very lucky with the people we were grouped up with (we imagined a mismatch on this by Shamwari could make your stay a nightmare). Our ranger was excellent. One of the particularly nice parts of the afternoon drive was the stop before heading back to the lodge when the bottle of wine was uncorked and we stopped to watch the sunset over the reserve.
We enjoyed every minute of our stay, the circumstances at the time were all in our favour (room, group etc) and want to remember it as it was, for that reason only we wouldn't go back.

What can I say, this place is just the best overall resort/game reserve I have ever been too. The staff, rooms, game drives, food, rangers, views, location are the best. I would definitely recommend this lodge as part of the Shamwari reserve. Just wrap up for the morning game drive...This place is a must !!!
