Kwande proved to be a standout stay on our Eastern Cape holiday. The decadence and friendly staff matched with great food and open plains left us with very fond memories. Proved to be a great stay for the kids too.

We recently spent 2 lovely days and nights at Ecca Lodge. If it had not been for the fact that we had just been to its sister lodge, Great Fish River Lodge, we would have rated Ecca as one of our best safari destinations to date. The accommodation is comfortable and luxurious; the food is as good as you can find in any top restaurant; the staff (including ranger and tracker) are without exception friendly, efficient and professional; and the game viewing and bird-watching was quite rewarding. Reading some of the earlier reviews, though, I feel a bit jealous because we never saw leopard and only saw one lion. But then on the other hand we saw lots of rhino, buffalo and elephant, as well as a couple of cheetahs (twice).
The other visitors to Kwandwe during our stay came from all over the world (UK, USA, Canada, France, Sweden, Denmark) and it made us quite proud as South Africans to hear how much these visitors enjoyed our country and its scenery, not to mentions the warm hospitality and fabulous cuisine provided by Tilana and her team.

Room Tip: All rooms are similar, but older guests may prefer rooms closer to reception.

Kwandwe provides a magnificent family experience. The rangers and staff are dedicated to dealing with kids and parents, and from the jeep safaris to the incredible food, everything was faultless. Our 3 kids felt right at home and loved every minute of it. Animal sightings were really good (we saw lion, rhino, elephant, buffalo, cheetah) and we loved the fact that an infra red spotlight at night allowed us to see a rare animal such as the aardwolf. Very highly recommended.

Travelled as a family of 3 and this exceeded our expectations. Fantastic luxury room, our son said that you could shower a whole football team in the huge shower....Great views, each room is in effect it's own lodge, and you do feel that you are not in hotel but rather in the wild.

Fantastic food for breakfast, lunch and dinner....it's difficult to know when to stop eating.....

Amazing scenery and game drives (we managed 6) with enthusiastic and skilled rangers (Ivan and Siya were brilliant). It was just us three on the vehicle so we could see everything really close. Managed to see all the sights very easily multiple times, saw all the big 5 in just one game drive. Managed to see a couple of male lions fighting for control of the pride, a couple of leopards fighting each other, Cheetahs munching their way through an impala....not forgetting the elephant that visited the pool to drink the water....

We looked at other game parks such as Shamwari but we're so glad we chose Kwandwe.

Service was wonderful, friendly and efficient. Would thoroughly recommend.

We started not knowing what to expect of this place, the scenery was lovely, as soon as we got to the lodge the waiters were lovely and and ploughs and the food was phenomenal. As we got to my room the room was amazing and the shower in the rooms can fit a football team into it. And as I sat down on the comfy bed I looked out the window and there is an amazing elephant outside the pool which was 20-25m away so we ran down to take a look. as we had a game drive we never came back disappointed, the stats show that only about 23% of the people see leopards and we saw them on 5 of our 6 drive and one time two of the were FIGHTING and the smaller leopard flicked the big leopard up in the air from the immense strength. TOTALY amazing and we were on our own private vehicle me (14, but fifteen in March) and my family. The last meal is the highlight because we sat down after the game drive and ate with the ranger and we had springbok and the ranger was really nice. We saw loads of animals and the big 5 on 1 game drive. This is coming from a 14yr olds perspective and I LOVED every second. I would like to make a special shoutout to SIYA the person tracking and spotting the animals, and RANGER IVAN who drive us and took care of us so THANK YOU ECCA LODGE.

Room Tip: The really good rooms were all of them really and they are polite and you can wash your clothes by p...

Phenomenal. The game drives are sensational, the Rangers really do understand the bush and everything in it. The accommodation is the tops and the level of service is first class at every level, from management to room service and security personnel. Lonely Planet guide says that Kwandwe is expensive but we felt that our 4 days there were absolutely good value for money, given the extraordinary lengths they go to, to make the stay enjoyable. Would go back tomorrow if we could.

We arrived for a four-night stay with high expectations, but found the Kwandwe experience exceeded them in every way. The standard of service and quality of the staff was the best that we have experienced anywhere in the world (and we have travelled a lot). One example: my wife has to have gluten free food and the Kwandwe chefs produced the most delicious food for her, including different cakes multiple times every day. Mandala provide exceptional service at every meal, quickly learning our pre-dinner, dinner and post-dinner drink preferences by heart and taking elaborate care of us.

The wildlife was abundant and the ranger and tracker (Ross and Vuyani) could not have worked harder to ensure that we saw what we wanted. Game drives take place morning and evening in comfortable, good condition vehicles and are punctuated by a refreshment stop in different carefully selected spots (another chance to produce gluten free cakes!). We saw the big five, but so many other animals and birds as well and always very close up. The ranger would radio ahead on your way back to the lodge and the staff would be lined up to meet you with hot face towels, drinks, snacks and a genuine interest in hearing all about our drive.

The accommodation was excellent. Lots of room, a great little private plunge pool and a well stocked in-room bar. With only six suites, the dining and other communal areas felt personal and friendly. We would all exchange stories of what we had seen during the drive and what we hoped to see next time out. If you wanted privacy, then the staff were only too happy to bring food to your suite.

We cannot speak too highly of this wonderful place and we recommend Kwandwe without any reservations.
