“Aaahhhh words fail me .......”
Reviewed August 23, 2013

As we entered the gates our much anticipated week-end began, but nothing could've prepared us for the adventure in store. Our senses were constantly on full alert, absorbing nature's playground whilst experiencing 5 star luxury at the same time. Our ranger, Ben, and tracker, Ernie, ensured our game drives were exceptional with their sightings and knowledge, bearing in mind that nothing is caged or staged and humans are the uninvited guests traversing the unspoilt landscape. At our comfortable and luxurious lodge, Great Fish River, the staff ensured we wanted for nothing. Each meal was a feast for the eyes before a morsel of the delectable delights touched our lips. All too soon the sunsets became sunrises and we reluctantly headed home again. A truly memorable time.

We were lucky enough to win a three night stay at the Great Fish River Lodge at the Kwandwe Private Game reserve. We had a fabulous suite with luxurious bathroom and our own plunge pool and sun loungers. The main lodge is sumptuously furnished with fantastic views of the river and valley and the food is excellent.
Alfie and Brian our ranger and tracker were knowledgable and friendly and we had the opportunity to see the big 5 up close.
Brians Amarula hot chocolate was just what we needed on a cold winters game drive to revive us.

My wife and I spent four nights at Great Fish River Lodge in April 2013.
The accommodation is superb, the food excellent and the staff wonderful
The games drives were stunning. We saw 35 specious of animal during our visit and our guide Jonty and tracker Sibu were absolutely terrific. They have so much knowledge and experience which enabled us to enjoy every drive (even when it was very cold!) to the full. Their hot chocolate stops and sundowners were first class. One memorable evening we drew into a magical spot overlooking the river where the staff and chef had a blazing fire and barbecue as our pre- dinner starters! Wonderful. I have said it all. Just go an enjoy a fabulous experience, you will not regret it!

We spent 4 nights at Kwandwe and it was the icing on the cake for our trip to South Africa. The layout, villas, food, and most of all the staff - especially our ranger and tracker were exceptional. I could not fault this place, it is fantastic.

My wife and I spent 2 nights at the Great Fish River Lodge at Kwandwe and we were absolutely blown away. I cannot find any fault with this place.

Forst of all, the accommodation is pure luxury. You have a large suite, tastefully decorated and outfitted with everything you could possibly need. There's a huge kingsize bed, comfortable lounge area, patio including a plunge pool (it was unfortunately too cold to use it) and bathroom including a gorgeous tub which overlooks the bush. There's also an outdoor shower and an indoor shower. The suite looks out into the bush, and you feel like you are a million miles from anyone else. There's no television, but you do have wireless and mobile phone reception, so its actually a great place to do some work if you need to (we did).

The public areas are comfortable and beautifully decorated, and you are waited on hand and foot by the staff. There are only a maximum of 18 guests there at a time, so its always quiet and relaxed.

Food was incredible. Gourmet to the max. Brunch is a buffet, and dinner can be either table service or buffet, depending on the evening. On some evenings everyone eats together in one big long table with the rangers.

The game drives were the absolute highlight of course. Kwandwe seems to be very well stocked and we saw everything we wanted to see and stuff we never dreamed we would see. Jonty - our ranger - had encyclopaedic knowledge of every plant, bird, animal and insect, and also a sense of humour and winning personality that made him a delight with whom to spend time. His skilful effort to make sure everyone got to see what interested them was highly appreciated.

I cannot give enough praise to The Great Fish River Lodge. The service, the accommodations, the food, the location, the game drives..... the only word I can think of to describe it it "perfection!". I hope I can return there soon for a longer period. Was without a doubt the highlight of our trip.

What can we add?! We just loved everything about our experience at Kwandwe. The game drives were fantastic, food amazing and plentiful, and the lodge and our cottage, beautifully decorated with all we could wish for. An experience not to be missed, not only for the animals, but for the accommodation, food and service too!

The set up at Kwandwe is quite exceptional. We have been on safari before in Kenya and this was quite a different experience. We have seen many of the animals before, except for the elusive leopard, which was seen by LOCIRA. We left the day before. Previous authors have effused about Great Fish River Lodge and I can add nothing more other than to say Doc and Siza our ranger and tracker were excellent in their approach and love of the animals and the job they do.We were in bungalow 6, which is quite near the main lodge, which we requested. The plunge pool had some mud in the bottom but was attended to within the hour of informing the staff. Wifi throughout and a desktop PC in the main lodge.
