The Great Fish River lodge provided a superb ending to your adventure. The staff, location and service were out of this world. Nothing we asked for was to much trouble from fishing trips, in room massage, BBQs and pancakes while on safari. We saw the big 5 and more, everything you could imagine. We were looked after the whole time which made our stay magical.

Room Tip: In the evening guests are escorted to their rooms by staff.

This place was a truly magical end to our first ever South Africa experience. The accomodation is out of this world, the staff, service and general ambience of this place was second to none. In addition the game drives were spectacular, guided by wonderful men such as Doc and Siza they made our experience one we will never forget. If you want to safari, you must go here.

Room Tip: Any room in the logde is wonderful but if you find walking difficult request one nearer the lodge.

We spent the final four nights of a two-week trip to South Africa at Kwandwe Great Fish River Lodge. It really was out of this world! This was our first safari & our 25th wedding anniversary - needless to say very excited & a bit nervous as not sure what to expect. From the moment we were met at reception with hot chocolate drinks, to being waved off - me crying because I didn't want to leave - we were so well looked after. All of the wonderful staff went above & beyond to make sure it really was the trip of a lifetime. Our guides, Ian & Sakhi, made it all so interesting, I think I learnt more about wild life in four days with them than my entire school years. Who knew animal poo could be so interesting?! We saw 4 of the big five, (no leopards) but just as fascinating are the smaller animals. We took a walk one afternoon with Ian & followed an Aardwolf - never heard of it before. It was lovely to watch it feed & go about its business when it didn’t know we were there, till it got wind of us. If you get the chance do a walk – a bit scary as not sure what you will see, but we felt completely safe in his hands & you see the smaller stuff too.

The food was amazing. We had a wonderful private anniversary meal that was a lovely surprise. A picnic set up under pecan trees one lunchtime was like being in a film - I expected Meryl Streep to arrive! Breakfast was served next to the fire & a 'Sakhi Special' of hot chocolate & Amarula mid morning on the drives was a perfect winter warmer.

All in all it was a dream holiday. We really hope to visit again as you could spend another trip there just watching the birds, so many & so varied. We were there mid winter, but very lucky with the weather. I think a trip in summer would be quite different, allowing more time to use the pool & chill out. Hopefully next year!

Room Tip: We were in lodge 6, which is closest to the main lodge.

I stayed 5 days and saw 35 different birds, lions eating warthog, elephants tustling, wildebeest tustling, buffalo next to vehicle, hippos, springbok (running and jumping), a mama cheetah and her 2 cubs (running and jumping), saw rarely seen caracol and mountain reebok. The accomadations were very nice. The food was well prepared, so beautiful didn't know to eat or look. The staff went out of their way to make the trip so enjoyable. The ranger (Doc) and tracker (Cesar) help make this the most enjoyable trip I have ever taken.
