The Kambaku Safari Lodge has impeccable service. My husband and I stayed there over our wedding anniversary which fell over the Christmas holidays....It was the BEST Anniversary Christstmas we ever had. It was just wonderful to spend that quality time in the African Bush. The rooms just transform you back to a time of simple elegance. - Spacious, comfortable and very close to the watering hole. WE just loved it and wanted to stay longer.... Can not wait to go back!

I recently spent 3 wonderful nights at the Kambaku Lodge and couldn't have asked for anything more.

The game drives were excellent; our ranger (Neville) and tracker (Arnold) were both knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We managed to see all of the big 5 except the leopard (we saw rhino, hippo, lion and buffalo) alongwith numerous other animals including zebra, giraffe, antelope, eagles, storks, vultures etc. One of the benefits of the Timbavati Reserve is that you are able to go off road looking for the animals which heightened the adventure and obviously increased the chances of great viewing. Also, only a minority of the properties have a commercial licence and therefore you rarely see other vehicles.

The lodge staff were also incredibly friendly, kind and always willing to help. The food was superb and I don't think it ever stopped! The rooms were tastefully decorated and the lack of electric lighting created a lovely atmosphere.

In comparison to the cost of other safaris in the area, I think this is excellent value for money and I would highly recommend Kambaku Lodge.

Stayed at the Lodge 2 nights. It is a fantastic little complex (7 rooms). Great decor, with petrol lamps, thatched roofs etc...
Robin and Ken are very good hosts. We had dinner at a large table every evening with guests, Robin, Ken and Dave our ranger. They had great stories to tell about Kruger, the area, living in South Africa etc...

Although we were there in the spring there were no mosquitos. The game viewing were great. Unfortunatly we did not see hypos but a couple who had arrived there the night before we got there saw a few. Lots of elephants, giraffe and lions.

The food was great, the rooms are very confortable, roomy, decorated with great taste. I definitely recommend this place.

Getting there is easy via http://www.eastgateairport.co.za/schedules.html. It is about £200 return from J'burg but well worth the cash spent. The drive between J'burg and the reserve is long and a little boring.

We stayed 2 nights in Kambaku Lodge and it was fantastic!
Food was always excellent, the staff very friendly and furnishings tasteful and comfortable.
As there are no electric lights the lodge is lit by karosene lanterns that create a very special atmosphere in the evenings . This fits very well to the isolated location in the bush. Dinner was taken open-air together with the rangers and the managers – this made us feel like home and was continued at the fire place.
Our ranger Neville and tracker Sam were great – they guided us with so much enthusiasm that we could always notice their fun about their job! Especially Neville’s enthusiasm about elephants passed on to us. The game drives with these two guys were the highlight during our 3-weeks-holiday! We learned a lot about the animals and the vegatation within Timbavati Game Reserve.
The lodge offers in every respect a luxury accomodation with unobstrusive but excellent service which we found very pleasant. We enjoyed every minute of our stay and would have liked to stay longer.
We hope to come back one day!

We're just back from a 3 night stay at Kambaku and we couldn't recommend a better place to stay.

The lodge only accommodates a handful of guests so you're made to feel special from the moment you arrive such as the team walking out to your car to greet you when you arrive, walking you back to your lodge after dinner and waving you goodbye again when you leave.

Our ranger David and our trekker Eric were a joy to go out on safari with each morning and evening .... so knowledgeable and always made us feel we were in safe hands even when the lions were glaring up at us.

The food was so good and never ending and the waiter George was just tops when it came to service with a smile.

Can't wait to return to Kambaku !!

I completely agree with all the other recent reviews; Kambaku is an amazing place and for the money I believe you will not do better .

We had a 2 night stay during September as part of our Honeymoon and were fortunate enough to have the whole Lodge to ourselves. This stay was defiantly the highlight of the whole Honeymoon

The Lodge is deep in the heart of the Timbavati and surrounded by game. Every game-drive brought different animals to the fold. We saw 4 out of the big 5 (the Leopard eluding us). The great thing about Timbavati is the vehicles go off-road for Big-5 spots which means you get VERY close to the animals; they are not even slightly bothered by the vehicle. Also it is so vast that we very rarely saw another vehicle. The Tracker and Ranger were superb, being very knowledgeable and genuinely passionate about the wildlife.

The lodge itself was perfect. The room was big and well furnished. The food was first class and seemly never-ending. All the staff very friendly. At first I was a bit put off by the lack of electricity, but the Kerosene lamps add nicely to the ambience and there's a main plug in the rooms for electrical appliances.

I have attached some photos of the room and Lodge, as a picture paints a thousand words.

If you are looking for a safari lodge in South Africa, this is one that meets all expectations and some more. The camp is just beautiful and has very nice suites (no electricity , but free wireless access plus a plug to load your computer, camera and any other appliances you might wish to use). The food is on the level with a chef's gourmet restaurant, the staff is just fantastic. We, a group of 5 , stayed for 5 days and have seen the 5 big many times. We were lucky to watch a leperd catch its prey and carrying it up a tree!!! The safari drives ( 2 per day) plus walks in the bush were carried out in the most proffesional way you could expect and we thank our ranger David and our tracker Eric who made sure that we will see all that can be seen in the Timbavati area. Price - wise this is the best deal you can find ( and we made a thorough check ) for a 4 stars lodge that renders 5 stars service.
