“Awesome experience!”
Reviewed August 1, 2013

Once in a life-time experience. We stay in South Africa and have been to several Game Lodges but Kambaku stood out for us. Passionate owners, Nicola and Bryce love for the bush and the animals is the main reason for this successful lodge with excellent facilities and very friendly staff. Everyone made us feel very special and at home – at the end of our stay we felt like one big family. The game drives were amazing – we saw the big 5 – never expected this. Each sighting was up close and so amazing. Van and Eric with their excellent tracking abilities made the game drives very special and fun for the children. My son and me celebrated our birthdays in that week and were surprized with an amazing birthday cake and the staff singing for us – very special.
Our room was close to the waterhole where the warthog, kudu, waterbuck and even a giraffe came to drink water. The highlight of our stay was the dinner we had the last night outside close to the waterhole under the beautiful African sky. The food and the company was awesome.
Not only did we made wonderful new friends we made wonderful new memories that will definitely last forever. Proudly South Africa!

Room Tip: Room with view on waterhole

What a wonderful review ! Thank you. We love sharing special events and making them that extra special for you - what could be better than celebrating two birthdays in one :) We also really do try and encourage the children to develop an interest and love of the bush as there is so much for them to learn and experience. Welcome to our family !

We loved to stay at Kambaku! Werner, our Guide, and Eric, the tracker, were absolutely fantastic and we were so lucky to see a lepard with his prey on a big tree and the other day a hyena on a tree, killed by the big lepard named ghost.

The accomodation was fantastic, the food was great and we hope we can enjoy another time this special place.

Thank you for reviewing your stay at Kambaku and sharing some of the special sightings with everyone. It is not everyday that we see a leopard kill a hyena and leave it up a tree! I will pass your compliments on to the chefs and the staff, and we will hopefully see you again in the future.

As a tour operator based in Johannesburg, I accompanied a Dutch travel agent in December 2012,for a tour of many game reserves and parks for a week BUT Kambaku stood out for me! The ambience is excellent, the staff friendly, the rooms have a personal touch but most all, the owners are amazing!. They are so passionate about what they do that their good karma led us to sighting a Lion at the watering hole from the comfort of our rooms.....oh and their solar energy conservation system... massive!

Hi Liz - Thank you for writing about us even though it was a while ago that you stayed here. It is amazing to see that we stood out so clearly for you... I guess seeing a lion so close up at camp will be a memorable experience ! Looking forwards to showing you the new upgrades when you are next around.

In June of 2013 we spent three nights here; we were a party of 6, including two children. Originally we were scheduled to stay at another facility that was more "kid friendly", but everyone in our party, particularly the children, were utterly delighted with our experience at Kambaku. The facility was excellent, the food wonderful, but best of all was the staff! We had a connecting room with our children, which was perfect. Obviously the primary objective for our stay was to see the animals and we saw the big 5 within 24 hours! We can't say enough to endorse the staff, their service and engagement were truly unique. Van and Eric were marvelous and so good with the kids. They have done an amazing job of providing an experience that will make you want to come back! We stayed in several other lovely places in South Africa, but Kambaku is the place we remember most fondly!

Hi there to you guys. What a pleasure it was to have you stay here and see the kids enjoying and learning so much about the bush. To see their faces on return from game drive will stay with me for a long time. I have also not often seen a child so sad to leave. we will pass on all your compliments to the staff as they all value the feedback and their dedication shine through. We look forwards to seeing you again soon!

I stayed for three nights solo in June 2013. After over a week in Chobe NP and Kruger NP, I had seen only three of the big Five (no criticism of Chobe or Kruger). Within 24 hours at Kambaku, I had seen them all - a tribute to the fantastic work of Van and Albert. These guys were great!
Many thanks to Bryce, Nicola, Van, Albert, Bennett, Louis, your fantastic chef and all your other great staff for a most memorable few days. I want to come back!

Room Tip: No 1 is closest to waterhole and gives excellent views of the warthogs and other visitors.

Our family of 5 spent 4 nights here in June, 2013 and had an amazing experience. This was our first safari and honestly, we really didn't know what to expect. We wanted to see game (obviously), and in retrospect came to appreciate the things that a private reserve in the game-rich Kruger area offers - i.e., the ability to go off-road to follow the animals (respectfully, of course); good traversing rights; rules limiting the number of vehicles around game at any one time; etc. Of course, it's still important to have good guides and trackers, and Kambaku's seemed to be very adept. We saw the Big 5 (multiple times in most cases), plus many other animals including some very hard-to-see ones like the wild dogs, serval, and the infamous honey badger. More importantly, our trip was not just a series of game drives but rather a truly memorable experience. Guides really engaged with each and every one of the guests there, eating meals with them, too. The attentiveness of all the staff was unbelievable. (As an example, one of our party got sick one day and all the staff went out of their way to make sure she was comfortable.) The food was fantastic, and the rooms were comfortable. All in all, I highly recommend Kambaku.

Thank you so much for taking the time to give such a lengthy and detailed review on your stay at Kambaku. Attentiveness to detail is one of the points that we focus on as well as creating that memorable experience that makes it far more than just a holiday... we really aim at going the extra mile, whether it is on game drive, in camp or assisting sick guests. Our aim is to encourage a love of the bush and the feeling that you want to continue returning, that life is not complete without a bush trip every now and then to regain one's sanity!

We spent 3 nights at this lodge in march/2012. Great hospitality. All staff treated us as a family members, not as simple guests. The game drives were simple amazing. And they made great effort to show us very special animals (wild dogs, giraffes, leopard, lions, etc.). They are extremely respectful with the wild nature and animals' life which brigs comfort and safety for the guests.
In summary A+ quality service. I would definitely return.
