Simbavati as a place is beautiful: the riverside location is magical and the accommodation is stylish and comfortable. The food and drink were of v good quality and the staff were most welcoming.

One criticism I have regards the game drives. As each drive is approx 3 hours' long, I believe the rangers should talk more to inform you of the passing flora and fauna. They have all been through training so should really communicate their knowledge as much as possible to keep your eyes and ears alert. Sometimes they appeared bored, and the experience of finding wild animals wasn't as magical as it should have been.

Aside from this the staff were lovely and they really were the most welcoming of any place I have stayed.

Comfortable facilities in large air conditioned en suite tents or more luxurious lodges great atmosphere in the camp created by the delightful staff good food served in convivial atmosphere either in or outside depending on the weather. Small pool and spa on site. So far so good but where this place really excels is the quality of the game drives and the skills and knowledge of the trackers and guides. We had an unforgettable experience seeing not only the big 5 but also having a wealth of other flora and fauna pointed out to us making the twice daily drives a constant source of excitement and delight. Thanks to Gregg and the team in the camp and especially to Mike and Hemet who shared their love and knowledge of the bush with us

Simbavati Lodge in Timbavati Private Reserve has a beautiful reception where we were greeted with damp towels and juice upon our arrival. Charlie and his wife, who manage the lodge make sure the guests are comfortable. We had a tent-room, while some were solid structures. Rooms were very comfortable and the food quite good. The outdoor shower was open to the wild on one side. The dining/patio area overlooked a dry, sandy river bed. We saw antelope and a nayila from the deck. Tea and coffee is always available. Twice a week dinner in a BBQ in a bomb area. Staff performed African dance for the guests after that dinner. The chef was very good and announced what each meal's dishes. Wifi in the reception worked okay. The gift shop was filled with a variety of souvenirs at a range of prices. The rangers knowledgable of the fauna and flora. Game drives were extremely successful. On one morning drive we saw The Big Five! Private reserves allow close-up game viewing since the open trucks can drive off-road. They limit the number of vehicles around game to 2-3 to not stress the animals. This makes for ideal game viewing and photo opportunities.

Room tip: I hope to go back someday!

Stayed for 3 nights in our last leg of our stay in SA. Nice, clean and serene property with almost a homely feel. Much of the credit goes to Greg, who manages the property with a very friendly smile and always conversing with his guests. Mike, our ranger was outstanding with his enthusiasm towards nature and wildlife. His knowledge on plants, birds and wildlife made a good impression on our children. Mike's friendly nature with good communication skills made the whole safari a lot enjoyable experience.
