We spent 4 nights at this wonderful lodge, staying in a family room (only two of us) which gave us a room each. From the moment we arrived we felt like we were visiting old friends, not strangers arriving at an anonymous hotel. The service was warm, friendly but not intrusive; meals were tasty and abundant; rooms were spotless and spacious and bathrooms were innovative and stylish.
As Aussies used to strict smoking policy near food service, our only criticism is that meals are served on the open deck area but under South African law this is also the smoking area. Fortunately the smokers were understanding and moved away from diners when asked.
Simbavati is located in the Timbavati Game Reserve, attached to Kruger National Park. Guides and trackers wee first class and we saw the Big 5 in 36 hours, awesome! Also saw rare and endangered animals with some exciting off-road adventures were the cream on the top of a fabulous experience.
This review is written against visits to other 4 and 5 star game lodges in SA and Botswana. Simbavati can hold its head high in any company.

The best part of our South African adventure was spent with Christof and Daniel. Thank you so much! A fabulous trip that I hope to take again. Being able to be up close and personal to these amazing animals was truly awe inspiring..

The game drives were amazing and we saw wonderful animals (thanks to Christof and Daniel), but we were sadly ill-equipped for the low temperatures on the early morning game drives, however the Lodge helped us out with blankets and hot water bottles, and couldn't have been more helpful and attentive. The electric blankets on the beds were magic, and the temperatures during the day were hot enough for sun bathing for us Europeans.

My girlfriend and I spent 4 nights in one of the luxury tents and had a fantastic time. The food and service was first class, the accommodations were comfortable and clean, there was free wifi in the common area which luckily reached our room as well, and most importantly the game drives were professional and successful. We saw the big five about three times over, as well as basically everything else you can think of (giraffe, zebra, white rhino, hippos, wild dogs, jackal, turtles, crocodiles, chameleons, etc, etc, etc). We were probably lucky, but I am quite sure that the guide and tracker were a major factor in creating our luck. The entire staff was extremely friendly and we would return again in a heartbeat.

We have waited years to do this and it exceeded all expectations. The safari tents were so luxurious and so close to the river and the wild animals walked right past every day we were there. Our safaris again exceeded expectations. Who would have thought you could be so very very close to totally wild elephants, a tiger and lions. The knowledge of our guides added to our absolute joy at all our new experences and to the unexpected such as rhinos. Lat but not least was the beautiful and varied food.. Don't hesitate to grab an opportunity like this.

The lodge and staff were wonderful! The "tents" were very comfortable and better than a lot of hotel rooms. Food was excellent. Amazed we could get reliable wireless internet even in the middle of the bush. Went on 4 safaris and all were terrific. Highly recommend the lodge!
