Serondella Game Lodge
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 14, 2007

My wife and I just spent three nights at Serondella on our honeymoon, and it was an amazing experience. Thornybush has the Big 5 and the means for you to see them. The Rangers of the different lodges work as a finely tuned team to coordinate viewings so all guests have the best experience. What really makes Serondella special are the people. Marco, Vivian, and Temba are wonderful. They mix incredible personalized service with their genuine friendship to create an environment that is both relaxing and fun.

The lodge itself is in a great location right in the middle of the park, animals randomly wander through, we woke on a few mornings with animals right off our back deck. Animals regularly visit the watering holes during the day enhancing your viewing. The limited number of rooms ensures an intimate experience, you truly feel at home.

The cottages (rooms) are large and well decorated, very comfortable, with stylish showers and large bathtubs. They are fully air conditioned and great care is taken to ensure their cleanliness.

We loved the food, the chef concentrates on home cook style meals with an african flair. We thought given the breakout of meal times that we would get hungry but that never happened. If you snack a lot you might want to bring some nutrition bars but dont hesitate to ask if you feel you need something, they are very accomodating.

If you are worried about Serondella being a kid friendly lodge, don't be! We spent 2 days with kids in the lodge (5 and 8) and 2 days without. It's more fun with the kids. There is plenty of room for them to enjoy themselves during the day and you have enough privacy near your room that it's easy to get away. The game drives are more exciting with the kids, it's enchanting to see their reaction to the animals.

As long as Marco, Vivian, and Temba are there I can't think of any other place I would want to stay. We felt it was a great value for the money, everything we expected and so much more.

I will try to post pictures at some point some soon, please check back.

We took our two boys, aged 15 and 11, and we had the best time. We saw everything except Cheetah, but were lucky enough to see Cheetah in another game park in Natal. It was so educational, and the staff were fantastic. The food was excellent, and the accommodation was amazing. Two points though, on arrival at the Main Lodge, not one of their staff members came up to greet us, and we stood around for an hour looking at each other wondering what was going to happen next. Other people who arrived at the same time were given a welcome drink, and explained to that their driver was on the way. For some reason, the four of us were just left to our own devices until our driver turned up. Another point, between 11.am. and 3.00 p.m., there was nothing for our boys to do. Unfortunately they were not interested in having a daytime sleep, and we should have taken books, games, junk food, etc. etc. to keep them occupied. We spent four nights at Serondella, which was just wonderful, but I do think they could cater more for children. Even selling junk food for bribery in their shop would be great.

We spent our 25th anniversary at Serondella Game Lodge. This place is awesome. It was everything we wanted. The game drives led by Marko and Themba were outstanding. We saw each of the "Big Five"-lion, rhino, elephant, cape buffalo and leopard. Marko, the ranger and Themba the tracker, most knowledgable, friendly and always willing to go out of their way to please. We experienced the African wildlife up close and personal.
The accomodations were clean and spacious. The lodges were full of African art and are very private. I was sitting on my deck one afternoon and watched two nyalas spar beside the water hole.
The food was great and plentiful. I did not have a bad moment at Serondella.

My husband and I and our 6 year old son just completed our trip of a lifetime. We went to Kruger National Park, South Africa and stayed at the Serondella Lodge in the Thornybush Private Game Reserve. We can't say enough about the beautiful accomodations, the excellent knowledgable and professional hosts and entire staff and best of all the out of this world game viewing and natural surroundings. If anyone is thinking about booking a safari in South Africa this is the place to go - you will not be disappointed! Check out their website, you get what you see and much more!!!!! Our South African tour organiser made it all possible, he is also a gem - contact him to make all of your arrangments and to find out about the many amazing places South Africa has to offer.
