Certificate of Excellence

I had booked to drive the Garden Route Friday/Saturday/Sunday as a short break in the middle of a business trip. Tuesday's forecast was 15/16° and raining. Needed a Plan B. Couldn't find anything easy to get to from Joburg that wasn't booked out. Called Christine Ross at andBeyond at lunchtime Tuesday. Had a booking at Ngala confirmed that evening. Phew!

My fourth and best safari experience but best because of the game drive group, really just luck. Thank you Bob, Kim, Reinhart, Robert, Luc and Julie, and guide Pieter and tracker Elvis (yes, Elvis.)

Same time last year at andBeyond's Vlei Lodge, Phinda. Accommodation is much better at Vlei and the small size meant communal dining on one big table which is great when you're solo. At Ngala ate with guide Pieter on the first night and the group on the second. Very different to my previous experience at a larger lodge where I ate alone and had a game drive group who knew one another and weren't interested in talking to me.

Game sightings were excellent, as they were at Phinda. Food was very good though not the excellence of Phinda. Also, at Phinda, because it is much smaller and has fewer staff, you get to know the staff better. However, Noel at Ngala looked after me well.

Having now had two out of two good experiences with andBeyond they will be my first choice for next year. I will definitely recommend Ngala to my friends.

Everything about this camp is lovely. management, staff, food and game. I was met by very professional staff and straight away could feel they where happy and they treated me with a natural friendliness.

My room was really as i always envisage a real safari camp room with everything that is needed. my room also had a really nice inside outside bathroom

My dinner was superb with again great staff and food. Staff where just the perfect balance of when you need them they there and not hovering...somehow they got it just right

After many years, I returned... That time tented, now Main Camp ! My experience with Tented was GREAT...Main camp is, mainly because of the room, disappointing !
The room is small, dark, zero comfort, no desk, no coffee, small terrace to look at some buildings towards the staff-camp I think !?
The staff is nice, food is good, ranger/tracker Pieter/Elvis are unique people (Pieter...Good Luck with whatever you will do from now on...), many friendly people, but oh oh that room was bad !
I was informed that there will be a renovation...please all waterhole-view (at least a terrace), more light, wifi, coffee, space, ...

Room Tip: Any room with waterhole-view !

We stayed at three separate lodges on our family safari holiday. The quality of service here is truly superb and the food choices and quality of food was excellent. Each night there were surprises as to where you would be dining and each venue was delightful. Whilst the quality of the bedrooms were good the other two lodges bedrooms were of a higher standard. This was not an issue however as the standards set by this lodge in all other respects was the best. Our tracker and guide were really good, thanks to Elliot and January - you guys gave us some of the best wildlife experiences of all the safaris we have done in the past. We love Nottens for its atmousphere, but I would return to Ngala Lodge when coming on Safari again. You will not get a better overall experience than at Ngala Lodge. This is a great choice when combining with other lodges as it provides a better chance of spotting Cheetah's than our other choices where this cat is absent. Also saw Civets and amazingly a pack of wild dogs. I could mention a whole load of amazing experiences, but suffice to say the variety of wildlife seen here was unmatched by our other accommodations.

Ngala is a very well run, caring establishment. Every night the scene is set for a different dining experience. The best part is been taken on safari by one of the local indigenous drivers! We didn't necessarily stay on the track and got up close and personal to the big five! Drinks under the stars and nothing was too much trouble, they even gave us a beautiful dining experience for our wedding anniversary in our private accommodation! The quality of service, food and safari was exceptional.
We made good friends and all sobbed when we left!

Room Tip: The rooms closest to main buildings as less chance of running into a wild animal!

Can't rate this Lodge highly enough! We had 3 nights and had a truly memorable time. Our guides Jaben and Solly were excellent. Their knowledge and passion was infectious. We felt extremely lucky to have them as our guides. Thanks so much for giving us one of the best traveling experiences we ever had. Oh yes, the food was also excellent! The lentil pie we had for lunch on the last day was amazing!!!!

Room Tip: Take clothes for warm & cold weather. Go on the optional walks.
