“Incredible place!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2012

We recently spent 3 nights and 4 days at Gomo Gomo. What a wonderful experience! The game drives were spectacular. The guides and trackers were informative, knowledgeable and friendly. The food was delicious , served around the open boma fire. The rooms were spacious, clean and decorated in a way to retain the rustic nature of the setting. The lodge overlooks a waterhole and it was so relaxing to sit there in the evening before dinner and see the animals come down for a drink. We had a wonderful time at Gomo and saw so much game. I would highly recommend this lodge.

We spent 8 days at Gomo Gomo and as professional photographers are main goal was to see leopards. The accommodations were superior to others we encountered in South Africa, Kenya and Tanzania and were the best value for the money. We achieved all our photographic goals and then some and Ewan put 100% into helping us reach our high expectations. The leopard images at Gomo Gomo were the best in all our extensive travels - check them out at -------------

We loved our South African adventure at the Gomo Gomo! The lodge setting is lovely and the staff wonderful. The games drives and good-natured guides were fantastic, just what we were hoping for. Our 3 children felt right at home and welcomed in this family-friendly environment. The night meals around the campfire felt very special, and the food was delicious (especially for the adults). These are memories (and photos) we will take with us forever. Highly recommended.

We had never done a safari before, and we are so happy that we stayed at Gomo. The accommodations were great, the food was amazing, and the guides were incredible. It was such an amazing experience. I only wish that we had stayed longer!

This is a relatively small camp with the separate bungalows overlooking a large waterhole. This might be its best feature as we had wonderful sightings right there in front of us. The game drives were excellent and we saw almost everything - particularly a lot of elephants and lions. Our two bedroom cabin was comfortable and clean. There was a friendly little bar and a tasty dinner in the boma. The staff were pleasant and the other guests generally interesting. I had stayed in the old Gomo Gomo which was in a different area and preferred this camp, but I must say our game sightings in the other were stunning. But that's the luck of safaris.

Read the rest of the reviews and you would see how great this place is. It was our first safari experience and boy o boy they wow'd us.

I can't take anything away from them for what I got in the 3 nights I was there. The price included everything except the alcohol (which is standard). Following are the highlights:
- Game drives that led us to see the Big 5. We got to see a leopard with it's kill, multiple elephant herds including one that came to the waterhole
- Nice deck overseeing the water hole which attracts all kinds of wildlife when they are thirsty
- Great rangers who and special mention to our tracker who would go on foot without the rifle to find the cats. He is the one who found out the leopard with it's kill
- Amazing course meal and nice boma dinner
- Cottages are spacious with amenities

I would go back to them and it's in an area which has a lot of good game viewing opportunities.

Only note is that it's no longer in Timbavati and is in Klaserie reserve. It is still access thru the Timbavati gate and shouldn't mean much to you. They also have tie ups to traverse a property (or two?) in Timbavati reserve.

Overall, don't shy and go for it!!!

Not sure how they come up with the rankings, but there's no way that there are five lodges better than Gomo Gomo in this area. There might be five that are more expensive, but not beter.

We were met Johan (our guide) at the door and he was our check-in, information, and safari guide all in one. They have a great setting, with the waterhole in front of the pool deck. We had room #3, which is closest to the pool and on the waterhole. I would recommend asking specifically for this room. Sleeps four, but we were only two. Bed was comfortable, bathroom was large and equipped, and view was great. Food was very good, and no problems if you're vegetarian.

Johan is a great guide, as he is a perfect blend of knowledge/safety and balls-out action. We felt like we were on an amusement park ride at times...and that's a compliment. Like I said in my last review of Naledi, don't pick your lodge based on the animals seen by the previous travelers- pick instead based on the quality of staff/surroundings. In this area, I say that Gomo Gomo is the choice to make- as I can't see anything another lodge could give you besides a larger bill.

We asked Johan to find us cats (as we didn't see them at Naledi), and it took him about 10 minutes to find Lisa the Lion. Elephant action was great, as was turning around during our coffee break at the elephant bathing hole to find a hyena looking us over from a few truck-lengths away. We had a great time, and all in 24 hours.

"6th of 11 in the area"? Don't believe that for a second. Find out the truth for yourself.

Room Tip: #3 on the waterhole was great and convenient
