We selected this sight from a personal reference. It was one of teh best weks of our lives. What impressed us was the fact that the owners family manage the place with absolute attention to detail. The equipment and resources are fantastic and the best of all were the fact that the staff were the most humble and efficient people that we have come across.
The game drives delivered Frequent lion sightings, elephants, Rhinos etc etc.

The game guides were well informed and relaxed, and we have taken small children that were accomodated throughout the weekend.

Thanks to Jason in making this family gathering a memorable occasion!

Room Tip: Teh kitchen is a gourmet kitchen so spend some time on preparing what you are going to eat

Baobab Ridge has everything one could ask for from a self catering lodge. Nini, Jason and their staff go out of their way to assist in making the stay relaxing and fruitful. Fill the venue with 16 friends and you will have the bush experience of a life time. You will not find a more affordable self catering Lodge in Kruger and the facilities and rooms are out of the top draw. We were fortunate to see 4 of the big 5 but also a wonderful Cheetah sighting. Get there before the rest of the world finds this great spot.

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet, huge & incorporate a lounge area. Self catering from a world class equiped...

We just spent an amazing long weekend in the bush at a wonderful lodge in the Klaserie Private Reserve called Baobab Ridge, and I thought I'd share the details of this fantastic venue! I have to confess I considered keeping quiet so as to ensure Baobab Ridge stays so special, and so very affordable!! However its the sort of thing one really should share with friends!!

Baobab Ridge is a luxury self catering lodge in the Klaserie, which if you don't know is part of the Greater Kruger, and very much a big five area. We saw Lion, Elephant, a massive herd of Buffalo(500 plus!) and plenty of other interesting and exciting sightings, not forgetting Winston the appropriately named bulldog who looks after the owners Jason and Nini.

You can view some pictures of the lodge on their website www.baobabridge.com , or at www.travelground.com , however I can tell you the pictures really don't do justice to how great the lodge actually is, the rooms are fabulous, with wonderful bathrooms, and every luxury is catered for. They have an industrial equipped kitchen with absolutely every appliance you could possibly need!! Although the attraction of the boma and a roaring fire had us braaing out there every night.

The lodge as mentioned is self catering and accommodates up to 16 people, we were 16 and at no stage did it feel overcrowded! But by the same token with rates as reasonable as theirs, you could take over the lodge with two families and it would still work out at a similar price to staying in the Kruger Park!! Honestly their prices are amazing!!

Baobab Ridge provides two open landrovers, and is self drive, although Jason drove one of the vehicles for us with so much passion for the bush that on one particular day he went out on four separate drives! The one being at around 21h30 when the call of lions became too irresistible! (said lions were located as were some elephant, an african wildcat, and a couple of jackal!!)

The hospitality provided by Nini, Jason and their staff was simply amazing, and you will feel most welcomed and completely at home within moments of arriving.

The lodge is exactly 500 km's from Fourways in Jhb, and about 35 km's from Hoedspruit. It took us 5 hours to get home yesterday!

If you love the bush you will love Baobab Ridge, we are already booked to go back in December!!

Room Tip: The rooms are all great!!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Baobab Ridge Lodge is a private lodge situated in the prestigious Klaserie Private Nature Reserve. It provides luxurious yet affordable air-conditioned accommodation, offering guests beautiful bush-veld landscapes with an excellent possibility of coming face to face with the "Big 5" and bird species in their natural habitat. *This lodge is fully catered and can be booked exclusively for up to 16 guests (ideal for groups seeking complete privacy and no age limits!). Activities at the lodge • Game drives in open Land Rovers. • Walking safaris, please request in advance, subject to availability and not included in rates. Minimum age is 16 years and up to 8 guests per walk. • Rhino conservation events, subject to availability and not included in rates (only available when entire lodge is booked) The Klaserie Private Nature Reserve (approximately 60 000 hectares) is part of the Greater Kruger National Park and open to the Kruger National Park and Timbavati Private Nature Reserve. The private game reserve lies along the western border of the Kruger, with no fencing separating the reserve from the Kruger or the Timbavati; allowing the animals to roam freely between the private game reserves and the Kruger Park. The game in both the Kruger and the neighbouring reserves is essentially the same, the only difference being the experience of driving off-road in open game viewers with professional guides and that this area is known worldwide, as the area the white lions originated from. They are born and live in the wild here, so the gene pool of the white lion is carried within the lions of this area and we have the odd sighting of white lions in our area. The professionally trained guides who accompany you on drives or walks are expert rangers (who are able to do their own tracking!) and are in contact with other lodge vehicles, greatly increasing your chances of finding the wildlife that you want to see. Some of the other game found in our area, are giraffe, wildebeest, impala, waterbuck, warthog, porcupine, African wild cat, honey badger, genets, bush babies, kudu, zebra, wild dog, cheetah, pangolin, aardvark, hyena, hippo and much, much more. Birding is quite spectacular, especially during our spring and summer when the migrant birds breed in the area. Hearing the cheerful call of the beautiful Woodland Kingfisher in the Summer, the haunting cry of the African Fish Eagle over waterways or the familiar evening camp fire sounds of hyena, lion, Nightjars and the Pearl Spotted Owlet has such a wonderfully calming effect! (Summer: September - April / Winter: May - August). ... more   less
