“Wonderful Safari Trip”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

We, a group of five colleagues visited Kruger National Park at Johannesburg on the 8th of September and we stayed at the Africa on Foot Camp for 3 nights. I have to say that it was truly an unforgettable experience for all of us. Nowhere else would you be able to get this kind of thrill and excitement. Our ranger Fafar was so knowledgeable and our tracker Enoch was so experience, calm & professional. Enoch's eyes was so sharp and he spotted animals very quickly even in the dark. Every day was a fun & exciting day for us. The food provided in the camp was so delicious. We really enjoyed ourselves very much during our stay there. Thanks everyone for making this safari trip a wonderful & memorable one ! We will definitely be back again !

We stayed for 3 nights from the 21st of August and the camp could not have been better. Enoch was waiting when our plane arrived and after lunch we were off to see the lions. I never imagined that I would be so close to wild lions. Rein made sure both of us were right beside them and as the lions are used to the jeep they were completely relaxed. We were allocated a family chalet so lots of space and everything had been thought of by Christina including the hot water bottle in the turned down bed. Next morning was our first game walk which is a 3 hour hike. Kneeling in the dirt in front of 3 rhino is not something I am ever going to forget. Then on to track the cape buffalo on foot and elephants on the way back to camp. So 3 of the "big 5" on the first walk. Did not believe that could be bettered but the charismatic Rein had a cheetah for us the next morning. Whatever I might have dreamed Africa on Foot surpassed it. Food is excellent and the lounge/ dining room under Christina's care is beautiful. Lovely table set with candles with the boma burning in the background under the african night sky. Nothing was too much trouble. We saw giraffes from camp during the day and a buffalo kill at night. Felt sorry for the tracker who was right over the top of the lions so we could get up close. The next night it was roaring lions, that was a heart stopper.
Africa on Foot is simply superb. Comfortable, nothing too much trouble with elegant dining. Oh, and the closest you will ever get to the magnificent wildlife. Thankyou.

my 13 year old son and I spent two nights at this wonderful place in August 2013 (winter in South Africa). the two knowledgeable guides made us so welcome and we had fun chatting to them about their lives as guides. remote location, stylish yet basic camp. we loved our hut and the outdoor shower, and we had a night in the treehouse.
thanks to Matt and Rein and the honeybadgers for an unforgettable experience.

My sister, brother-in-law, and I spent 5 terrific nights at Africa on Foot this August. This place rates a 6 on value, really. You get an unique and special experience unlike at most other safari lodges because of the full morning walks. Our ranger, Rein, and trackers Enoch and Isaac showed us how to track for big 5 game by examining footprints, dung, and broken branches. I can't say enough good things about them. Our best walk was on our final day, where we encountered Rhino, Buffalo, and Elephant on foot! What a tremendous sense of accomplishment! The game drives, while sometimes not hitting plenty of game (it's not a zoo, after all), were always accompanied by Rein's colorful and humorous commentary. The staff is top-notch, from Christina our manager to the housekeeping and kitchen staff. Courtney the owner came by a couple of times to say hello. We finally got our leopard encounter thanks to Courtney's advice on which route to take to our Kruger destination. Meals were very well-executed, and while the accommodations may not match trendy boutique lodges, you can't beat the location and atmosphere. We had honey badgers, hyenas, and wild cats wonder around outside our cottages at night. Yeah, they may have kept this jet-lagged person awake, but like the honey badger, I don't care. Recently, AOF got a pretty decent wifi connection, so you can boast to your friends and family what you saw on that same day. One advice during your afternoon down-time: you can hang around the tree house just outside the main area, we saw lots of giraffes and wart hogs one afternoon. This is definitely the lodge choice for active nature lovers!

Room Tip: You can stay one night in the tree house. I actually slept the soundest out of the 5 nights I was th...

Living in Johannesburg, we regularly travel to the bush, however, it is not common to have the experience that Africa on Foot offers its guests. It is a truly "close to nature" experience where guests get to stay in chalets that are simply yet adequately equipped without the confines of a usual bush camp; there are no fences. Nightly visitors through the communal dining area such as the inquisitive Honey Badgers or even a hungry Hyena make one realise how special the African bush really is
The communal eating and drinking area exposes guests to people from other continents or countries, who share the same passion for nature. And a fire-side chat will inevitably end up in stories of close encounters with animals. Not to mention some of the best views of the Milky Way galaxy on a clear night.

The staff are very friendly and the rangers are passionate and highly educated about their surroundings. Matt and Rein did a wonderful job in looking after us and educating us on the finer points of bush lore.

Walking in the African bush is not to be missed! It is not about seeing the big game, but about seeing the things that you would normally miss from a vehicle. Afternoon game drives (safaris) bring a peace about the land... topped off with a stunning sundowner while observing elephants or whatever is in the immediate area whilst sipping on that all African G&T!

Thanks guys! Value for money... We will definitely be back.

Africa on Foot offered us an amazing safari experience at a very affordable price. To begin, Christine, the lodge manager, met us every time the car arrived. She was always there with a smile! She also did a wonderful job arranging an elephant back safari for us. She was also our transport drive to and from the elephant back safari. She has a great whit and humor at all hours of the day or night. Matt and Isaac were our main guides and were absolutely incredible! They took every opportunity to show us all of the flora, fauna, and animals that they possibly could in the time we had. They were extremely respectful of their natural environment and the animals we encountered. They would get us up close and personal in a way that we could only dream about. The two of them always made sure that we were comfortable and safe while getting the best possible views of the wildlife. Matt and Isaac were a great pair and always keeping us entertained! Kevin and Enoch also spent a day with us. They too were very knowledgable, respectful, and fun to travel with! The food was outstanding! Gertie went out of her way to accommodate my gluten free meal requirements. She and the other staff would even bake fresh gluten free bread every day for me! It was awesome. Make sure that if you happen to be there on potjie night, try the lamb, it was incredible! I am waiting for them to email me the recipe since I brought a cast iron potjie home with me! Another great part of staying at Africa on Foot was the ability for us to spend the night in one of their tree houses away form the main camp (at no extra charge)! It was so cool to be out in the tree house and experience the tranquility of the bush. It was one of the biggest highlights of our entire trip! While we were there, the BBC and to researchers were in camp doing work on a documentary on honey badgers. We had a great time with all of them. I am looking forward to seeing the documentary later this year or next. Thank you to all of you for making our stay AMAZING! We are so looking forward to our next stay at Africa on Foot and additionally to nThombo!

This was an accidental find as our accommodation in Kruger was not available and we had to switch to something else. What a swap! It was wonderful. Staff were very friendly, Ranger Rien took us on a highly enjoyable walk and we learnt a lot from him. Rien and Tracker Enoch then took us on a game drive with great sightings. It is an eco-friendly camp with minimal electricity available in the hut but that was no problem and part of the experience. It had a family feel to it as there were only five huts. Camp manager, Christine, was very caring. We hope to return again some time in the future.
