“THE place to go when on safari near Kruger”
Reviewed September 16, 2013

I cannot sing the praises highly enough of our recent trip to the Kapama Southern Camp. This is a small property (something like 24 rooms with just shy of 50 guests) and they excel at personalized service. Everyone knew us by name and were incredibly helpful. The rooms are simple but very comfortable and far nicer than I would ever expect on safari. There was an incredible bounty of food that will please almost every taste. But most importantly, they have an outstanding and very knowledgable safari staff. You are assigned a guide, a traker and a butler who work with you during your entire stay. We had Jacque, Colbert and Welcome and they were all incredible. Jacque was super knowledgable, friendly and seemed to be able to find every animal on the reserve. Colbert was quiet but provided excellent advice to Jacque to find the animals. Welcome always had a bright smile and was eager to make sure that our every need was addressed.

Each day starts with a 5am wake up call followed by coffee and light food before leaving on the morning safari (6am - 9am). You return to have a full breakfast and have the remainder of the day free. There are numerous activities to fill your time - a spa is available at another lodge close by, there is a walking safari that was a definite highlight, and several other options (we also did the chetah experience which was excellent as well). There is a beautiful pool and animals literally roam the property allowing you to have easy access both in camp and on safari.

Truly an incredible place and will be where I will return if I go back to Kruger!

Room Tip: All the rooms are basically the same and wonderful - they are finishing some new "luxury suites...

Lovely accommodations and an attentive staff made our trip worthwhile.
Bethel was our accomplished and knowledgeable ranger who made sure we saw animals at every turn.
Each drive was more amazing than the previous.
Would highly recommend!

My son and I recently visited Kapama Southern Camp having booked through an agent. (I mention the agent because the accommodation was certainly not what we were expecting) The staff and public facilities at Southern Camp were excellent, as were the meals. The game viewing was superb and our guide (Tim) and tracker were friendly, knowledgeable and patient. Our accommodation though was most disappointing and I look forward to returning to Kapama Southern Camp when their new suites are up and running. I must add though that the staff went out of their way to change our accommodation for part of our stay. I would aslso add that thay on a couple of occassions I felt that the game vehicles were too full, and when coupled with noisy teenagers, detracted from the bush experience somewhat.

Room Tip: Would recommend booking a sutie.

We just spent an amazing 4 days at Kapama Southern Camp on a family trip. We had the most amazing experience, and can not say enough great things about Kapama. Everything exceeded our expectations beyond belief, and the staff was absolutely amazing.

Tim and Muxe were our safari guides for 4 days, and they were awesome! They drove us around and made sure that we had an amazing experience.

Mildred and team were our hosts at every meal, and the food was to die for. We had such a nice mix of American food and local cuisine, and every meal was a pleasant and delicious surprise.

The rooms were great, too - very large and nice and updated bathrooms. The entire camp was extremely well-kept and we wish that we could have stayed even longer.

Thank you for a great experience!!

The overall experience is good. But as there are two game drives per day, in 2 or 3 days you will probably see everything, then, there's nothing else to do. Take the time to visit other lodges with more features. Staff is very good. Food is average. Price is quite high.

I cannot say enough good things about this place. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable with good AC and heating. While the days are warm, nights get chilly in winter months, but you would never know in your cozy room. A spacious walk-in shower, soaking tub, and double vanity spoiled us. Every day we would eat meals prepared by a professional chef who must have taken his mother's and grandmother's cooking advice to heart. Delish! I think I gained weight. The morning and evening drives were magical. We were provided with warm water bottles for our laps and snuggies with hoods to huddle up in. I can still feel the crisp air blowing over my cheeks, which added to the thrill of the experience of searching for wildlife. Elephant babies playing beside their mother, giraffes walking along side the jeep, and rhinos grazing next to us are only a few of my favorite memories from these drives. We saw all of the big five and at close range. The hotel itself is located only a short drive from the airport, so hours are not wasted getting to and from the lodge like many other accommodations in the area. Also, I had a massage at the spa, which is a 10 min. ride to a second facility. The prices were below average for offered services, but the treatments were top quality. I cannot recommend this lodge enough!

Room Tip: Stay in a deluxe suite. Having a good bathroom and working AC is well worth the extra cost.

Just returned from 3 night visit to Kapama Southern Camp.
The entire experience exceeded our expectations. This was our first visit to South Africa and I highly recommend both a trip to South Africa and a stop at Kapama.
Our guides were engaging, our accommodations excellent and the food bountiful and delicious.
While in Cape Town, we ran into another couple who had stayed at Kapama River Camp and they were just as pleased as we were.
Great time, great value.
