“The best way to do a Safari!”

It was a life changing experience! The accommodations were amazing and the food was delicious. The best part of this lodge is the staff, they did make my stay very pleasent and exciting. Our Ranger (Mike Butler) and tracker(Moses) made our early and late "excursions" exciting, educational and very fun.
Amazing way to connect with nature and meet new and interesting people......and yeah, LOTS OF WILDLIFE!!!

Kapama Karula offers robust luxury accommodations with boisterous and informative safari drives. I’m using quotations on the title because another couple at the resort termed Karula the “Ritz Carlton of safari”. Thanks Susan and Norman. ☺

At over 1200 square feet per room, it is safe to say that the superior suites are extremely spacious. The ceilings are roughly 12 to 14 feet high, and the each room comes with two heating/cooling units and a gas fireplace. The bathrooms have an indoor and outdoor shower. The indoor shower is made of glass and overlooks the reserve. Each superior suite has it’s own private balcony with lap pool. The staff is extremely friendly and will quickly respond to any concerns voiced. The food is excellent and the chef frequently comes out to interact and receive feedback on the meals. The breakfast and lunch menu remains the same but with several items to choose from. The diner menu changes every night and just for FYI…the wildebeest, lamb, and kingklip dishes are a must have.

The strength of Karula lies within the service provided by the guide. My wife and I were able to take phenomenal pictures of the big five because of our guide Moses. He always seemed to find a way to find the animal that we wanted to see, even if it meant collaborating with other guides and trackers. He provided additional information about astronomy and agronomy when asked. Moses was simply the best!

Thanks again!

Vinson & Crystal

My father and i stayed here for 4 nights in December, which was South African winter. We stayed in a chalet, which included a plunge pool and was very large, better in my opinion than the tent, although the tents were very nice and luxurious, just a bit small. However, there is little time spent in the room, only for sleeping and between the morning safari and evening safari.

The safaris were incredible, we saw all of the big 5, and not just a few, but many. Only the leopards were elusive, as we saw just 2 of them. I also liked how they showed us other animals such as birds, small reptiles, badgers, even dung beetles, just an amazing variety of animals. The guides were excellent and i also enjoyed the sundowners during the evening safaris.

Food was gourmet and delicious, internet worked great for downloading photos, and staff was super friendly. Very clean premises. I also liked how we arrived at lunch time and we immediately went on a safari late that afternoon. They also had snacks for us after returning from the safaris. Overall they were very good at the little things.

Kapama is expensive, but for a once in a lifetime trip, worth every penny. I would also add that 3 nights is the right amount of time to spend here.

Room Tip: we preferred the chalet due to the size

Me and my wife traveled here for our one year anniversary and were not dissapointed. From our arrival into Hoedspruit airport we were greeted by our ranger Maura and our tracker Tully who grabbed our bags and put them into the open top landrover for the transit to Karula. Along the way we saw a few animals. We opted to stay in the luxury tent and it was a great experience. For those who aren't comfortable with the thought or presence of small insects may want to opt for the luxury chalets. The game drives were great and we were able to see the Big 5 over the duration of our stay, including newborn tiger cubs in the wild. The food and service back at Karula were terrific, the spread of food was fantastic, and the service was supberb, especially Musa who always knew my wife's favorite drink. The location and atmosphere were great, especially being able to relax in the pool in between game drives and watching the monkeys and birds in the trees. Check out was a breeze and was no problem to get the late check-out since we were on the later flight departing Hoedspruit to Joburg. We're hoping to return again another time of the year in the not too distance future.

Room Tip: If you're terrified of a few small insects opt for the chalet, the tent is luxurious and open, b...

That was the top we reached during our honeymoon trip. And you believe we have been trough amazing places. Room was just...stunning. Perfect. It was a dream. The shower outside within the trees, the bath, the atmosphere.. Outstanding level also for food (considering we were outside Italy :-) ). Staff works really well. Safari was grat even if, of course, the game reserve dimension is such that cannot be compared with the close Kruger experience. It is not for all the pocket but if you can.. just go !

Stayed over Christmas in one of the family suites. Would highly recommend.
Warm greeting on arrival, the staff already knew the kids' names, very personable and lunch laid on even day of arrival.
Game drives were done very well and the guides tracking a leopard for us (after a sundowner drink) a real highlight of our visit.
I heard from several of our fellow guests that they were not overwhelmed with the tented accommodation but the family suites are superb. The website accurately describes them. It's luxury in the midst of nature (the kids were delighted to find a wii in their room and frog in their shower).
Most of all though the service here was second to none. Special personalised safari backpacks for the children awaited them in the room on arrival and the christmas stockings provided on Christmas day after dinner a real surprise. Well done the Kapama Karula team.

Room Tip: Go for a family suite - after all aren't you worth it!

I travelled with my boyfriend in the first week of January 2012. It was just perfect!!! From the pick up at the airport to the magnificent private pool in our suite we loved everything. I'm a birdwatcher and since the very first time I said this, our fantastic ranger, Darren, had all efforts to show me new species. The service is outstanding, from the cleaning staff to the manager, everybody smiled and tried to help us in every possible way. I would definitely come back and strongly recommend it.
Food was very nice, with two breakfast times, lunch with three a la carte options of main course, snacks in the afternoon and during the safaris, both in the morning as in the afternoon safaris, and delicious dinner, by the pool, at the boma or in the fancy restaurant with Phillip Starck chairs.

Room Tip: The suites are just perfect. They have a complete mini bar with a nice selection of South African wi...
