It was a great place to stay! I was only able to stay 2 nights. The food, staff and room were wow. The game drive was spectacular. We were able to see all of the big 5, including a leopard on a night drive. I would love and hope to go back!!

Room Tip: I was in cabin #2 with a view of the water hole.

Drifters is a truly beautiful place to stay, tastefully appointed, spotlessly clean, fabulous amenities and amazing friendly knowledgeable staff. Our guide was super, in fact we cant imagine being able to top our experiences with him. The wine list is impressive and really great value, however, it is with regret I must inform you fellow travellers....

If you are a foodie, I would urge you to be prepared for some less than average fare which was plentiful, but unimaginative, with weird combinations such as stir fried Asian style vegetables (frozen), with lamb chops and boerwurst. I have had better food on airlines, in hospital and at boarding school, which at least were hot when served and frequently use fresher ingredients.
This is such a shame as even average food would have made an exceptional experience, but in my books, it was unacceptable and was only ingested in the face of having no alternative.
If you can hack it, go for the other great reasons, pack some biltong, chips and chockies and you might cope. (unless pre packaged food and packet mix/ frozen fare is your bag - then you will have a ball!!)

Where do I start??!! Drifters Game Lodge camp is one of South Africa's hidden jewels! We stayed here for 4 days and we had an amazing time! From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel as if nothing was a problem. It did not matter if it was early, early in the morning or late at night, the staff always had a wonderful smile.

The food - "wow" that was something else, the best we ever ate! Each meal was a gourmet experience equal to any you would get in a first class restaurant & there was always an abundance of it! The staff were superb - so attentive and friendly catering to our every need.

The game viewing and our ranger Gavin were amazing! We saw the Big 5 (and more) all at very close range and his knowledge of the animals, bushlore and care for our safety made every drive enjoyable, educational and our stay exceptional!! He (and the other staff) always made a great effort to ensure that we were enjoying our stay and getting the most memorable experience possible.

OK as you can tell it was the best safari ever!!!! There are only eight tented suites under thatch, all comfortably appointed with electricity, full bathroom with shower and a private patio overlooking the Mohlabetsi riverbed. I would say pick this Lodge for sure don't even think twice about it.

Thank You Drifters Game Lodge for making our stay such an unforgettable experience - we hope we can do it again!

When we were leaving, we felt so sad as we wished to take everyone home with us as they had become friends.

You arrive as guests, you leave as friends!

We spent New Years Eve with 7 friends (all Germans) at the Drifters Lodge, in a private game reserve next to the Kruger National Park in South Africa, and it was an experience that no-one will forget!

The lodge is of 3*-star standard, accommodation in tent-style rooms on raised platforms overlooking a waterhole. The bathrooms have proper walls, with outdoor-shower and the basic necessities. No air-condition, just a fan, but with the side-walls of the tent opened, the heat was bearable, especially at night.

The main house has a terrace, where breakfast and lunch (and tea...) are served, dinners were mostly in the adjacent boma, an open air enclosure with open fireplace. A small pool provided refreshment during the hottest hours of the day, when waiting for the next game drive.

Main reason to got: The morning and afternoon game drives. In reliable open safari vehicles, with very knowledgable guides and trackers, who managed to find us four of the Big 5 - only the leopard kept hiding from us. Only one game drive was not succesful: On the morning of January 1, all game seemed to have a hangover from the night before, after two hours of unsuccesful cruising and NO animals, the excitement on the radios was great when one guide has spotted - a herd of impala...

Besides of that, the staff went to great length to make our stay really memorable: The manager took us to to a Sunrise Hot Air Balloon Safari on NYE, we had to leave at 3:30 am, and he kept quiet so that my friends couldn't find out what I had arranged for them. His reward: He was invited to hop into one of the balloons - despite him being a very seasoned field guide with 20+ years experience this was his first flight, so we made each others day (and year). 18 hours later the whole crew and all guests (only a dozen, that's all they can accommodate) gathered around a huge bonfire in the middle of a dry riverbed, and with Whisky and icecold beer we welcomed 2010 - in complete silence, under the stars, in the middle of lion and rhino country!

Drifters has also several Inns across Southern Africa, and they run tours with Safari trucks. More at www.drifters.co.za.

We stayed at Drifters for 3 nights. This was the third game park we stayed in on our holiday. It was the most remote but genuine African experience. Our tents were 5 star. The food utterly delicious, mainly prepared by Shannan. Our ranger Anu and his spotter Charles couldn't do enough for us. They even found us the elusive Leopard. After our game drive in the evening, it was a wonderful sight to come back to the lodge and indulge in a sumptious feast. After dinner we were walked to our tents by the staff who made sure we didn't have unwanted visitors around our tent. Even the outside shower was a treat. One of the highlights was a walking safari where we learned about the bush and the animals at their level. We highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a true African adventure but with a few luxuries too. Our travelling companion became ill prior to arriving at Drifters and the staff were most obliging to his needs, preparing special foods and drinks.
