“Beautiful and calm place in Parsons Reserve”
Reviewed August 24, 2011

We stayed for two nights in one of the comfortable bungalows. Very good beds, nice and neat interior, well furnished bathroom and lovely verandah with excellent view on the Olifants river. We liked the small-scale of the lodge.
Great hospitality and delicious breakfast and dinner.
Because of a changed sign down the road we could not find the lodge. Sander picked us up at the gate. We think that the road is not really recommendable for a normal car. Besides you better can drive a 4WD when you visit the provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga because there are a lot of gravelroads.

Room Tip: There are two similar bungalows with each two rooms.

Food was super, atmosphere was great. On the bank of a river. We stayed 4 days in Balule/Parsons. A big-5-area? 2 days at Kurhula, and 2 days at Tsakane.Did not see any of the big-5 animals. The rangers did their utmost best. But they spotted only kudu's, nyala's etc. One of the rangers of Tsakane told me, when we left: I did not see a elephant since december. So. We did see a lot of dunn, that was all. From the tar road you have to drive 45 minutes on a bumpy road to reach Kurhula. If you want to visit Kruger. It will take at least 1 - 1,5 hour.

Room Tip: all the rooms are the same.

We had a fantastic stay at Kurhula Lodge. It lived up to all the reviews on Trip Advisor - and some!
We stayed for 2 nights, then took a trip to Kruger for 2 nights and then came back for a further 3 nights. The accommodation is very comfortable and inviting, and the open verandah (where we ate the absolutely fantastic food lovingly prepared by Kim) is a great place to sit with a beer or glass of wine and talk to new friends.
The wildlife viewing is superb - without moving from our chairs we saw elephant, warthogs, crocodile, mongeese, baboons and vervet monkey. The bird watching was also second to none.
Sander organised a sunset game drive for us - which was much more intimate (and cheaper) than the one we took in Kruger. We saw white rhino, zebra, giraffe and more 'bocks' than I can mention.
Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts Sander and Kim!
If you are into wildlife and beautiful riverside settings it doesn't get better than this!

A perfect getaway for relaxation and and total comfort. We had an amazing experience surrounded by the wildlife and spectacular views. The hosts, Sander and Kim provided so much of friendliness and warmth, that we would definately want to go back. The food was heavenly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Kurhula. Thank you Sander and Kim for an awesome experience that we will always treasure. Regards Sharon and Deena.

If you want someting else than the 5 star safari lodges here is a nice and affordable alternative. The place is beautifully located at the Elephant river, has few, well furnished new rooms so it will never get crowded. We were there with friends and it felt lik the place was ours. It is cosy and absolutely value for money. The Dutch owners are very hospitable. Kim is an excellent cook and Sander a great braaier so also dining there is worth while! I can absolutely recommend it.

I just came back from this lodge, and what great value for money!! The rooms are nice and clean with mosquito nets, and all the mod cons you would expect from some of the more expensive lodges in the area. The food was good and especialy the home made bread.....at this price I would definatly recomend it as it is hard to find this type of lodge at this price in the area......Patrick

As soon as we took to the turn off from the tar road we saw giraffe, zebra’s, wildebeest, and bucks.

Kurhula is a lodge in African setting. A beautiful, silent place in the middle of the wild bush. De rooms are comfortable, the food is delicious and Kim and Sander give you a feeling of being at home. We spent hours at the river, where the hippo and her baby were swimming and the crocodile was sun bathing on a sand bank.

We visited the Kruger Park, the Drakensbergen, the reptile park and we walked with lions. Kim and Sander their enthusiasm about Africa; her nature and culture got into our blood and we will definitely come back to Kurhula and his habitants (human and animal) again!

Kim and Sander, thanks for an unforgettable holiday
