“Amazing!!”
Reviewed December 23, 2013

The entire experience was amazing. Staff was extremely friendly and went out of their way to make sure our visit was memorable from the moment we drove up to the time we left. Food was out of this world.

The accommodation at Enkoveni was spacious and comfortable and the meals were well prepared and appetising. The hosts were welcoming and accommodating. The game drives were of a good duration and the guide was knowledgeable. A pleasant and relaxing couple of days.

We spent two nights at the Bushcamp and two nights at Enkoveni. We enjoyed both places. The Bushcamp has a better guide and tracker. It only has four rooms so it is quiet and intimate. The Enkoveni has been recently remodeled so the rooms are nicer and it sits on a large river. While at Enkoveni we enjoyed watching the baboons across the river, a hippo in the river and went to sleep with the lions roaring. The reason I did not give it five stars is we did not like the rigidity of the meals. You must eat family style at a very firm time. Our first two nights we had lovely dining companions (in fact you do everything with your fellow guests). The second two nights we did not like our fellow guests that much. It is the luck of the draw. We rented a car and it was very discouraged to leave the camp. We ignored their advice and had a wonderful day trip to nearby Kruger. I think three nights is about right. The road to the camps is very rough. You need a car with good ground clearance. Overall we had a good stay and a very memorable experience.

Dear libbylulu

Many thanks for your review,

With reference to your comments on our meals, our meals are set at times so as to allow the maximum game viewing opportunities, they are at around 9 am in the morning which is after the morning safari returns, this then allows you to participate in the morning activities of the bush walk or spending time in the Blind/Hide or just relaxing in Camp, before Lunch is served at 14:30 hrs, this then still gives you time to relax before the afternoon drive which departs at 16:30 hrs, the afternoon drive returns at around 19:30 and dinner is served at 20:00 hrs, ensuring that you don't have to late a night prior to the 5 am wake the following day to go on Safari again.

I am sorry you felt we discouraged you to leave the camp this is not the case at all and our guests are free to leave the camp during the day and visit the local attractions such as the Blyde river canyon etc, we also assist in arranging or giving detailed maps in-order to do this.

Once again many thanks for having stayed at Naledi Game Lodges

Regards
Kjell

It really is as good as majority of people say. My wife and I stayed at Enkoveni for 7 days mid to end of November and had a wonderful experience. Being so close to all those animals we saw during the game drives was a dream for us come true. The camp it self is located at an explanational spot along the river, were you can easily spot along the other side, giraffes, monkeys, elephants and other wild animals passing by as well as hippos in the river it self.
Food is exceptional! Each dish we were served was specially prepared and so tasty! Never had such tasty food at any hotel I visited...top restaurant quality for sure. Drinks are also available and the cost is very fare thinking that you are in the middle of the bush and some could take advantage but here they dont.
The rooms are big and wow, we stayed in the fishing owl which has a very nice verandah on the river side. Bed was very comfortable and relaxing, there is a bath as well as a shower area.
The staff are all very friendly, kind and helpful. Rosane and Shawn were very attending towards our needs and always did something extra to please us. I ended up with a sore throat and the guys organized to have a syrup brought in for me from the city, which is some distance away and for which I am very thankful! My wife also forgot some dresses and Alicia and the rest of the guys organized to have them sent to us at Cape Town where we were staying next. Very big thank you for that!

If you also want to have some extra activities, this can be organized for you at the camp. We sacrifice one game drive and went to the panorama excursion, that took us to some amazing view points and water falls. Its a must if you have the time!

We surely enjoyed our honeymoon experience and will surely come back and visit you again in the future.

Thank you!

For our first time to South Africa we chose Naledi because of the good reputation and reviews that we had read before booking our trip and we were not to be disappointed. Before arriving if we had any questions or needed to book transfers, the email response was always very quick and very helpful so that filled us with confidence before we even arrived.

Arriving I remember thinking how lucky we were to have picked Naledi. The camp was beautiful. We stayed in the Enkoveni camp based on the banks of a river (they have another camp 'Bush camp' a short distance away but still in the same reserve). Met with a very warm welcome from Rozanne, the managress. Rozanne went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. The bar and kitchen staff were also very lovely, smiling and friendly.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner always comprised of some amazing dishes where you sat with the other guests round a big table and with one of the game drivers, Shaun. Shaun is a fountain of knowledge and a great guy to listen and talk to, making the meals interesting and fun.

Our room was incredible, we stayed in the Bushbuck suite and it was luxurious. We saw monkeys running round on the trees in the morning, hippos in the river, impala on the opposite bank and we hadn't even gone on the game drives yet!

I wasn't feeling very well on arrival and got worse on the second day meaning I missed out on some of the game drives and the staff honestly couldn't have done more. Rozanne made sure I had anything I felt like eating (peanut butter on toast!) and tablets or medical attention if I needed it. I couldn't have been in better hands and I am very grateful for that and to the team.

When we did go on the game drives, they were amazing experiences and Shaun and the tracker we had were very good to find the animals and show us things I didn't think we would see. Shaun would talk to us about every animal we would see and answer a never ending stream of questions from us - the guy has the patience of a Saint! We saw the big 5 but it was also the other smaller animals, birds and insects that were pointed out that also made up a fantastic experience; including a bird that stops flying and kamikaze falls back down to the ground as a type of mating ritual which was just so unusual and amazing to see. Hippo fights, giraffe's, crocs, zebras, everything! Just be patient on the game drives. You will not see everything all the time but during your stay you will see it all so try to go on all the drives. Morning drives do start at 5:30am but you have time in the day to chill and eat etc that the early starts don't matter. It's 2 game drives a day and the option for a bush walk which my husband did and thoroughly enjoyed learning how to survive in the bush! Just in case...

Overall our experience was fantastic. 3 nights was a good amount of time to relax and see everything we wanted to see. Clothing wise, it was very hot whilst we were there (up to 40 odd degrees!) but some light loose clothing was good on the game drives. Be comfortable. I did take a jumper with me on the mornings as it was a bit colder driving along but they do have blankets in the open top jeeps if you need them.

Massive thanks to the Naledi team and especially to Shaun and Rozanne who are not just lovely people but really made our experience what it was. We will be back!!!

My wife and I stayed with Naeldi for four nights/ five days; at the bushcamp for three nights and the Encoveni river camp for one night. We travel very regularly and recommend Naledi strongly! If you are thinking about this, stop wasting your time because you will not find a better place based on our experience and comparative feedback from other travellers we met while in South Africa.

The service and facilities are outstanding, the food was excellent, the staff is as professional as we have ever encountered while travelling the world and the game drives exceeded our expectations by 1000%. We saw the big five and so much more up close and personal. You simply cannot get a safari experience like this on a self drive or with many of the other lodges.

They have new specially outfitted 4x4 vehicles that they are not afraid to use to the fullest extent in order to bring you comfortably as close as possible to the animals. They have the best ShanGaan trackers in South Africa that can locate animals from imperceptible tracks, they know the animals behaviours and patterns and they use radios to communicate with their many local allies to get you in front of the animals. We saw more in 5 days with Naledi than my local South African friends have ever seen in a lifetime of drives and more than any other group of people we met during our trip. You simply cannot beat this outfit!

Both camps are excellent but different. We didn't realize that the two camps are not at the same location and booked our entire trip at the bushcamp. They were able to accommodate our request to try the Encoveni river camp for one day and night without any hassle. The bushcamp is smaller and more intimate with a great view of a watering hole right from the deck and swimming pool. We saw giraffes and elephants while having a drink and emailing friends. The Encoveni is on the river with larger rooms and more space to hang out. We preferred the intimacy of the bushcamp but also loved the river, so you cant go wrong with either option. I suggest trying both for a couple nights each and see what tickles your fancy. Its all personal preference.

Thanks to Kjell, Alicia, Shawn, Rosinne, Craig, Sophi and Oupa for an amazing experience of a lifetime! We loved it and can't wait to come back!

Room Tip: Get a room with an outside shower if possible. Its an awesome experience!
