This was our first Safari and we felt we had done a great deal of research in the UK but Bjorn from Kruger went through the various parks, private reserves and national reserves highlighting the pro's and Con's of all - in the end we were taken with Honeyguide Khoka Moya as they specifically cater for children so we were not worried about taking our 8 year old along.

We were met on arrival by Gwen who was looking after us even before we arrived at the camp by answering questions and ensuring we were met at the airport and got to the camp safely. Also we met Fanuel and Ezekiel who would be our guides, educators and friends for the next 4 days - their knowledge and enthusiasm for their country and region meant so much and we all got pleasure from listening to their experiences and appreciating their insights.

As for the important aspect "The Big Five" I had actually arrived rather skeptical about seeing them all in the time we had but I was not to be disappointed we had them all shot (digitally of course) within the first two drives (one at 5:30am and another at 4:00pm) - this meant that Fanuel could elaborate on the region and the varying landscape and vegetation so we got so much more insight - we went in search of the wonderful array of birds but also it meant we could focus on looking for different aspects and groupings of the various wildlife - seeing a herd of Elephant a pride of lions, male lions feeding, hyenas, vultures a herd of buffalo and the show goes on.... and on. Quite magnificent and with the guides everything became far more clear and understood for the whole family. We all especially loved the morning and evening stops for coffee and drinks respectively - best part of the drives as you get out of the vehicle and can take in the spectacle (always under the watchful eyes of the guides - so no one is going to be lunch for any of the local inhabitants)

As for the food and camp - excellent all round

The food was always extremely well presented by the chef who would narrate the menu before the main evening meals and there was always several dishes to choose from and plenty of food. There is a well stocked bar that is not at all over priced even considering the isolation (that was very much appreciated by me!)

With the camp being open and directly bordering Kruger the wildlife is right there with you and we were graced on several occasions by antelope and elephants who came by to drink at the camps own watering hole (the camp is not fenced and so is directly part of the bush) - they get all the animals coming in to take a drink so we were glad about the evening rule that you are to be escorted to your accommodations when it gets dark.

As for the tents - well they are tents so don't expect JW Marriott because if that's what you want then I suggest you go to a JW Marriott - but you will never get the level of experience and the feeling that you are part of the surroundings - now the tents are excellent they are founded on concrete slabs with semi permanent structures which include a private bathroom area which is very spacious and has all the amenities - no AC but a large fan and as I don't cope well with heat at night this was a worry I had, especially when the temperatures hit 45C - but it was fine and we were all able to sleep well (with the 5:00am wake up - you soon get the sleeping part down) as the beds were very comfortable and are all surrounded by a generous and complete Mosquito net.

All in All I would recommend this to anyone seeking a safari that gets you right in the middle of the action we had a fabulous time. If you have children then the recommendation is even more assured.

Room tip: All the tents are the same and any location will provide adequate privacy from the other tents (15 in total)

Nice tents with restroom and showers, A small terrace where you can enjoy wildlife with no fences or guards (escorting guards when it gets dark) All kind of animals passes the tent everyday. It´s a breathtaking place and it´s up to yourself when you seek into the tent if you think that OK thats close enough. All in all there are 15 tens. A fantastic area and you can drive on safari everyday if you want. Also there are a swimming poll for relaxing, and a come together area, where you eat or have a drink in the bar. 5 stars from me. I have given only 3 stars for night sleep, thats because there are many sounds you dont now during the night. But otherwise its 5 stars from me. I enjoyed the not fulltime sleep.

Honeyguide safari camp

We’ve been to South Africa before, but what intrigued us about this particular trip was the opportunity to live so close to nature – with the animals just outside the door. And we were not disappointed! Indeed, from the very first morning, the rangers showed us everything we could possibly have wished for: Lions on the hunt, lions after the hunt (with their prey), rhino, hippo and giraffe at “close range”, gnu/wildebeest, zebra and antelopes by the hundreds.

The staff in general is extremely friendly and waited on us with kindness and a smile – and the food was plentiful and delicious. Our ranger, being the “rookie” of the team left nothing to be desired, and as the days passed, we got to know and appreciate both his knowledge and his subtle sense of humour. As a matter of fact, humour seems to prevail in the camp, making everybody feel at home right away – though not in any way jeopardising or getting in the way of the earnestness with with we have come to respect the animals and the nature that surrounds them.

We are most happy to give our stay our full recommendation ***** (5 out of 5 stars)

The location is beautiful and ideal for animal sightings, the food is great, the guides are friendly, the animals numerous. The tent is very comfortable and luxurious. Any later in the year than October and I think it might be hard to sleep in the heat. Saw four out of the big five, plus many other animals. Leopards sounded hard to come by in this park.

The first few days we had land rovers, but midway the camp swapped it's land rovers with a sister camps less comfortable land cruisers (hard seats). Would be nice to have the land rovers back.

Some more activities during the day would be nice - bring something to occupy yourself between the morning and evening game drives if you're not in the mood to lounge about.

We spent 7 days here and everything went fine. Amazing nature nearby and tent area is well kept & full of animals. You can see and hear all kind of wild animals. Personnel of honeyguide tented safari are very kind and they look after you 24/7.
We couldn't be happier. Our ranger Devance was really fun guy and his knowledge of animals and nature was phenomenal.

Our guide Mia was also very familiar with African history, nature and animals. Best guide i could imagine.

We had a good time with our group. Thanks to all!
