A fabulous experience to share with friends and family!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Apr 17, 2013
We were lucky enough to stay at the beautiful Manor House at Tintswalo to celebrate my mother-in-law's 70th birthday. We have experienced many game farms across Southern Africa, but in terms of amazing friendliness and attention to detail of the staff, breath taking animal sightings, isolation, tranquillity and luxurious comfort, nothing has come close. We were warmly welcomed by wonderfully knowledgeable and friendly staff and immediately felt as if nothing was too much trouble. Fantastic Orlando (our own personal butler!!) learned our names and our favourite drinks choices very quickly and was both attentive and unobtrusive at the same time. Patrick, our ranger for our stay, was by far the best that we have ever had - utterly knowledgeable, funny, friendly and above all as enthusiastic as we were about the animals. He tried so hard to find leopard for us on our last day (unfortunately we didn't succeed) but the thrill of looking was almost as exciting. Jack, our spotter was outstanding, although we were unnecessarily worried for him as he set off into the veld tracking leopard without a radio or a gun..we were all relieved when, after about 45 minutes, we were reunited. In the five years that we lived in South Africa (14 years ago), we have never seen such an abundance of quality animal encounters, coupled with a virtually complete isolation (we only saw one vehicle from another lodge in the whole time that we were there). Marissa was fantastic - unfortunately we arrived 24 hours later than expected due to a problem with our flight from Cape Town to Hoedspruit; she immediately did everything she could to offer us another night, although unfortunately flights did not allow us to do this.
We stayed with 6 adults and 2 children, so The Manor House was absolutely ideal, with our own fenced garden, lovely pool where the children could splash around with no worries about noise, and a delicious gin and tonic for the adults! It was an added pleasure that Patrick (our ranger) joined us for several meals, chatting about the animals and laughing his amazing laugh. Our food was delicious (thank you Kate, the chef) and timed beautifully to fit in with us. We are ordinary people (not rich like some of the people reviewing!) and saved up for a long time for this trip. I had high hopes for this part of our holiday but they were exceeded by a mile..we absolutely loved every second (even the 5am starts) as we were treated to home made muffins and biscuits, coffee, hot chocolate, warm blankets and hot water bottles in the land rover in the chilly, dark mornings.
I don't think four stars and some of the website photos do The Manor House justice - in my opinion this is heaven on earth.

Our family just returned from a four night trip to Tintswalo. It was
AMAZING. We were fortunate enough to stay in the Presidential Suite,
a two bedroom gorgeous suite with its own plunge pool and an enormous
back deck. It had claw foot tub, great linens and a full kitchen completely stocked.
I loved the attention to detail like the notes left bedside at night for our boys, and my husband loved the privacy. Julie, the housekeeper was lovely - she attended to the room
at least twice a day during our stay.
One night after a long game drive, we returned to rooms with hot baths prepared and rose petals strewn about. During our time there, we saw an elephant lumber by, an extended family
of monkeys play in the trees and on our roof, and any number of exquisite birds take
roost just outside the windows. Our two sons, ages 13 and 16 loved the
twice daily game drives. Our driver Darren was knowledgable and adventurous. We saw
four of the big five, learned about the constellations and got to see the South African wilderness in its finest. He handled what threatened to be a charging elephant with great finesse.
One evening at dusk, he and our guide Eric (our kids favorite) set up a table of appetizers and drinks directly in front of area where two male hippos were playing. Another time we stopped our vehicle under a magnificent canopy of stars to listen to the night sounds. At the lodge, Johan the chef serves delicious meals three times each day. Local, fresh, organic ingredients all thoughtfully prepared. Whether it was dinner in the wine cellar, an BBQ outside surrounded by torch light, or an elegant lunch on the deck watching grazing wildebees, the dining staff made sure that each meal was an experience. Edwin, who walked us out to suite each day was such a gentleman. You never know what might be near - in fact, the last day I chased
four large male baboons off our deck! We met a diverse group of other guests, all
in agreement that Tinswalo is phenomenal whether you a couple, family or traveling alone.
You will not regret staying at this magnificent lodge. From the minute Ronel and others greet you, you know that they are determined to anticipate every need. If you are planning a trip to South Africa, do not miss Tinswalo.

Incredible setting, great food, friendly staff and most luxurious accommodation. Tintswalo really has it all! Skip the commercialized and overcrowded Kruger Park and Sabi Sands and escape to this piece of paradise. You will not be disappointed and you'll walk away with new friends. Everything is just perfect!

Our family of 10, aged 4 to 70 spent two and a half fabulous days at Manor House. We were impressed by the staff, warm and welcoming, everybody doing their outmost to make our stay extraordinary. Our guide Patrick and the tracker Alfred helped us experience the most exciting safaris where we saw all the big fives, except for the leopard. We were close to a herd of 400 buffalos, a group of 17 giraffes, 5 small lion cubs, a pair of lions mating, and much, much more. In between the safaris we were taken well care of by the house staff treating us to delicious meals. Manor House is perfect for children as it is fenced in and has a small swimming pool. Animals visited the water hole outside the fence. Haege

Room tip: The best room was on the first floor with a beatiful veiw.

We had a magical honeymoon in the Maldives on an island resort but I tell you, the Tintswalo staff at safari lodge not only made us feel special, they gave us an unforgettable experience and amazing adventure :) even better than our honeymoon

The private safaris with top notch trackers are world class, they took us into the bush to have sun dowers with lions roaring a few meters away.

5 star food, where no request is too much! Our butler was excellent too

the management was truly incredible who didnt spare any effort at all accomodating us in every way.

The rooms were elegant and sophisticated with utmost privacy, nothing like sipping on port while swimming in your own private pool overlooking elephant in the bush...

Its evident they strive to deliver beyond the expected

My husband and I have travelled to South Africa several times over the past 8 years. We have experienced many game lodges and found Tintswalo to be of the highest quality. The staff was attentive and available to us at all times. The room was amazing...plunge pool, outdoor shower, private with great amenities. The bed, linens and towels were the most comfortable after our long game drive days! The lodge was filled with the highest quality furnishings and architectural detail. Tribute to explorers long ago. Many places to relax and read one of the vast library of books.
The meals were served in all different places in the lodge. One night we ate in a boma wine room...round with space for the beautiful table set. Very romantic. And the food was unbelievable. Mushe was an excellent chef!
Our Ranger Eric used his skill and experience to help us see some unforgettable sights. Along with seeing all the Big Five, the off road proximity to the animals was fantastic. A giraffe recently killed by lions was our spot on and off one day. We watched the female feed, the male slumber nearby, and then the vultures consume the remains. The sounds; the raw instinct to feed; amazing!! Timing was perfect. We benefited from the teamwork of our guides.
Our sundowner experience was another highlight. We saw a magnificent sunset and sang, danced together as we were led in an African hymn. But we will never forget the sounds of the lions roaring to each other in the dark as we sat in our jeep just a few feet away...listening, feeling, the experience.
We found our two nights to be a perfect getaway.

Room tip: We stayed in Speke. It was close to the lodge and had a great, private view. A pretty waterbuck spent one full day below our deck, just watching us as we watched him!
