Living in South Texas, by late August we have had it with scorching heat. Our first stay at Shadow Mountain and it was great. We loved sitting on the porch watching the birds and hummingbirds. Gave us a chance to meet and visit with other occupants. Nice size rooms with just enough kitchen to eat in. Everything worked and was very clean. We are regular visitors to Ruidoso and our friends just sold their big home, I picked SM due to driving by for a number of years and top rating by Tripadvisor.

This was a great place to stay. The atmosphere is very nice. We enjoyed watching the deer, the hummingbirds, and just sitting on the porch or at the fire pit area. The location of the property is excellent. It is very quiet, but convenient to restaurants and shopping.

We stayed here only one night, but it was very pleasant. The rooms are a nice size and well equipped. The grounds are lovely. The hot top was broken, but they said it was new and they were working on getting it fixed. It poured rain while we were there, so we couldn't have used it anyway. It was a place that I felt like the owners really paid attention to the small details that make you feel at home. They also had a $2 DVD rental. We would definitely go back.

Thanks for the kind review and for appreciating the property for what it is. Sorry about the hot tub, we are really upset at the builder, Blue Water Pools from Albuquerque. They have really let us down, but we are working hard to get things right. Come again anytime!

We stayed in cabin 302 from August 18-23 and we couldn't have loved it more. Our cabin was very clean and the bed was great. Everyone was very nice and the grounds are very well kept. A jetted tub, pass through fireplace, flat screen TV on a swivel so you can watch from either bedroom or living room, and a nice little kitchen are just some of the room highlights. You can just set a timer and poof, the fireplace comes to life...and believe it or not it got chilly enough in August to actually enjoy a nice little fire. Take a short stroll to Pena's Place for breakfast one day and then go a block or two further to Sacred Grounds Coffee House for the chicken and green chile quiche the next...amazing!
Shadow Mountain is in a perfect spot, right at the foot of the upper canyon. We saw deer every day and loved sitting on the front porch of our cabin watching the hummingbirds at our own personal feeder.
We will definitely be back. Shadow Mountain has earned another loyal customer.
Thanks for making our summer getaway so perfect!!!

Great place to stay...everything you need & more! Comfortable bed, kitchen items included & coffee provided :) but we opted to eat out. Loved watching the deer and hummingbirds right out our door. Clean, quite and the grounds are beautifully maintained. Will return!

Based on trip advisor reviews we decided to stay at this lodge, and what a lovely, neat, clean and relaxing place! The lodge room is configured for two only (two towes, two plates two cups... etc.) They did tell us about having to ask a family with a "noisy child" to leave in order to keep the place tranquil when I mentioned that we have a child with us, but our stay was completely pleasant for all three of us. We'd definitly stay there if we're in Ruidoso. The location is ideal, not on the main noisy road but not too far from it either and it is in a middle location in town where you have easy access to shops and restaurants.

Thank you for the wonderful and honest review!!!! Refreshing as of late. We work very hard to make every stay enjoyable and you were a pleasure to have here, as are all RESPONSIBLE parents and you are welcome back anytime. A small child is not a problem here and in fact we like having young families discover Shadow Mountain Lodge and how comfortable it really is.

When I booked, I thought we were in a cabin, and not the lodge. So be sure you ask if you have a preference. Even though we were in the lodge, it has a wonderful cabin feel - there are hummingbirds absolutely everywhere, and the outdoor porch, grounds/garden/hot-tub gazebo are all to be enjoyed. I would agree that the lodge is probably not the best place for families/children - just because it's mostly couples - but if you had a cabin it could be perfect. The owners were super friendly and the location was PERFECT for Ruidoso. We enjoy this area a bunch - it's mostly folks from Texas escaping the summer heat, doing a little golfing, hitting the horse track, shopping, and sight seeing. Lovely place.

Room Tip: Just make sure you ask about a cabin or a room in the lodge.
