We found this place quite by mistake. We didn't even know there were cabins on the river when we pulled into town. We stopped at the Tourist Bureau and they gave us a map with some ads and we called a few and decided to tour three properties before deciding on this one. We stayed in the Sherwood Castle and luckily I took some pix. It was newly remodeled and had a nice big jacuzzi tub which we needed desperately after several days on the road; just roadtripping. We cooked a nice dinnero on the back porch on a brand new state of the art grill and enjoyed the big oversized, obviously local timber rocking chairs. The bed was comfy and this place was CLEEEan! There wasn't a lot of spots to store our gear but the place was roomy enough not to matter much. The deer were all over the property and there were bears in the local dumpster overnight. It was August but cool and wet and lovely. We took a nice walk down to the river. It was great. Of course there's no restaurant or store conveniently nearby but we went to the grocery store and made use of the refrigerator, stove, oven and grill. What a lovely evening we spent. It was a little pricey, but we were ready for a relaxing splurge.

We stayed in the Friar Tuck cabin in the beginning of January. The cabin provides an outdoor experience while offering comfort. It was well equipped with kitchen amenities, a heater and comfortable beds. The Ruidoso river is a short walk away. Deer walk along the cabins and the river.

Just got back from 3 nights here. Only cabin left at this facility on a 3 day notice. Well manicured lawn/facilities. Cute doesn't overshadow basics especially when it involves money. We stayed at Nottingham. Sorta of cute?? but bathroom and kitchen need attention. No privacy on back porch as the other cabins faced ours. Mattresses were somewhat uncomfortable. Grandkids liked bunkbeds. Lists AC, but has evap. cooler in living room ceiling-not good for those with allergies. Has no vent system, so kids were too cold and "bedroom" in back of cabin was hotter. Several smokers on porches --thought it was a smoke free environment.

Nice yard with green grass scattered with hammocks, glider, swing. Area is nice and we prefer to be in Upper Canyon but felt we were not given our monies worth. This cabin should not have been charged over 100/night, but we paid --yes--159.00 based on photos on internet. Torn linoleum in bathroom along with a stand alone shower that had plumbing on backside open, since there is no wall. Kitchen had about 1 foot of counter top space and the way the small sinks were mounted, lot of water got on countertop instead of into sinks--constantly had to wipe up water so things would stay dry. Needless to say, there was a sign mounted by sink to have area clean upon departure or a $10 fee would be added to bill. Microwave sits on top of refrigerator and one plug for 3 devices--coffeepot, microwave and refrigerator. No plug in bathroom for electrical devices and small mirror.

May go back, but need more research from other viewers before we choose to stay in other cabins. Little things that added up are the main problem for this particular little cabin.

We stayed in the King Suites cabin for several days, attending a family reunion with various members renting different cabins on the property in early July. The property is lovingly cared for -- the rustic cabins are pretty reminiscent of motels from the 40's & 50's. The location was ideal and quiet. We were able to sit out on the front porch at night, which I really enjoyed.

The king bed was quite comfortable and the cabin roomy for my husband and me. If it had been colder, it would have been nice to light a fire. I liked having the small kitchenette there which we used for breakfasts.

The owners were quite friendly -- all in all, I would return for another stay there.

We stayed in the Maid Marian Cabin at Forest Home Cabins in Ruidoso, New Mexico from October 3-5, 2006. Centrally located to explore many southern New Mexico attractions. We were arriving late and called to make arrangements to pick up a key (no problems at check-in...the manager opened late to give us the key and area info). The cabin was typical of the area. Nice kitchenette with sink, mini-fridge and micro. Bath was adequate with a huge soaking tub. Bed needs replaced (definitely old and worn). Linens were not picked up from front porch and we had to go to the garage/laundry area each day for fresh towels. Cabin had a smoky smell-due to fireplace not properly venting? Be prepared for a very small living area. (We couldn't bring in both of our suitcases...only room for one.) If you are looking for a rustic experience in the woods, this is the place. It was nice and quiet and well located for exploring the area. If you want more of the "comforts of home" stay in one of the chain hotels located in the area.
