“Can't beat $1 tacos!”
Reviewed July 14, 2010

Lucy's offers $1 ground beef hard-shell tacos as a once-a-week special. Don't know about the rest of the food, but worth a stop for lunch on $1 taco day. Also passed by this place in the evening, and it was hoppin'!

“Not bad, depending on what you order...”
Reviewed March 30, 2010

First of all, I think the inclusion of "Mexicali" in the restaurant's name tells a lot: It's not pretending to be Mexican food from either New Mexico OR Texas, which is probably where the majority of their customers come from. So it's a little different from what I'm used to.
They offer diners a large basket of decent tortilla chips and are very generous with the salsa they serve right away. The first salsa they brought out tasted very heavily of canned tomatoes, though it had a tiny kick to it. When our very attentive waiter heard our comments about it, he immediately offered to bring us a pico de gallo (a type of fresher chopped salsa), which had green chile instead of the jalapeños we're used to, but was better. He seemed amused that we went through several bowls of it on our tacos; he seemed to think it was too hot to eat. The tacos were served pretty promptly, and mine (fish tacos, with choice of grilled or battered fish) were excellent. The taco shells on the fish tacos were fresh made from corn tortillas, but for some unfathomable reason the taco shells for the chicken tacos were the pre-made kind, which no self-respecting taco in NM would wear willingly. Beans (not included, but a side order) were ok. Servers and greeters very friendly, and the prices fairly reasonable for expensive resort-minded Ruidoso. They had a beer special for $2.00, but take a tip and don't order any wine.
The patrons seated at the bar looked like they were enjoying themselves, and there are huge TVs if that's your thing. Atmosphere very casual, a little noisy.

“Worst Margatitas!”
Reviewed January 24, 2010

We decided to eat here because the sign outside boasted "best margaritas in Ruidoso". We ordered one frozen, and found that if this is the best margarita that Ruidoso has to offer, I pity the people who live in and visit the city. It was virtually tasteless and didn't seem to contain any alchohol whatsoever. The food we ordered was OK but wasn't hot, just lukewarm. The taste was alright but nothing to write home about. We won't be coming back and we won't be recomending the margaritas for sure! There has to be a better margarita in Ruidoso than here!!

Visited Ruidoso for the first time and i must say that this town is so quaint and so friendly and to top off our trip had a visit to the best mexican restaurant in town. The staff was soo friendly and we were even greeted by the owner personally. I had the adams chicken fajita burrito and it was awesome!

“What's happened to Lucy's?”
Reviewed August 8, 2009

We've returned to Lucy's year after year during the summer. Last summer the service turned bad during two visits but the food was still excellent. Last night "Barbara's Favorite" was terrible. They didn't ask how hot we wanted the chillies, as they always have before. The dish was tasteless. On some previous visits, I've left cheese on the plate since there was just too much. This time there was almost no cheese. Really really sad!!
