We always go to Pena's when we visit Ruidoso. This is a not a fancy expensive place. Good southwest and home style breakfast. Friendly staff and food service.

We tried to eat at this highly recommended little place several times, but it was closed the Tuesday and Wednesday we were in Ruidoso. One morning it was closed, however, we had the opportunity to talk with the personable owner about his "second job," that of crafting beautiful furniture out of gnarled stumps and pieces of wood he has salvaged here and there, examples of which are on display in the restaurant. When we finally were able to have breakfast there, the food was delicious and the service great.
Please note that this is a tiny restaurant, with only seven tables inside, but it would be well worth waiting for on a busy day.

Was staying at the nearby Shadow Mountain lodge/cabins and was highly recommended by the owners for a great breakfast. Only a 5 minute walk to Pena's Place, we were greeted by a very friendly staff. All ordered omelets and was just fantastic breakfast. What a great way to start off the day.

This spot was recommended by the owner of our lodgings and much frequented by locals. We went for breakfast three days, had three great meals. The take a Spanish omelet, on huevos rancheros and, believe it or not, on eggs Benedict was amazing. Just enough individuality in spices and sauces and expert attention to the basics. Wonderful staff, and Jimmy (owner/chef) is a super nice guy and woodworker.

I stopped in for a quick bite before moving on down the road. The food was good and plentiful even for a 2 piece ala-carte order (Taco & Beans). The service was decent, the seating is small (maybe 7 tables total). The food was above average family owned restaurant.
