I have stayed at The Lodge many times over the past 8 years. In all that time I have been at least, 'satisfied' with the quality of the facility - not so this time. The room in which we stayed was in need of repair and maintenance - although it was clean, the alarm clock didn't work (it was reported to the front desk but not acted on), the wood trim is badly worn around the sink, there is an upholstered chair the room that needs either being turfed our or reupholstering - it is worn out, the upholstery stained and legs simply beaten up with age and use. The sofa is headed in that same direction and will arrive there soon. The sheets and bed coverings are neat, clean and well taken care of. The bathroom was spotless. The room is very noisy, if you do decide to stay here ensure you have a room on the top floor ONLY - the floors act like sounding boards and they 'boom' with overhead footsteps. The heater cycling on and off was very loud - you wake each and every time it cycles on and then wait in the quiet knowing you'll be only be awakened when it cycles on again.
There is a breakfast served each morning - it is, however, not good; there was a long line-up for the made to order omelets, etc (which may have been the better choice, because the sausages, scrambled eggs and potatoes were all cold on the steam table and very hard to get at - awkward placement. There was no place to sit once we had got our plates - all the tables were filled - we ended up taking the food to the lobby to eat. There was an odd mix of metal knives and plastic forks - had the dishwasher broken?
I used the fitness room which has only a few very well used and limited-weight free weights, the water bottle was empty and the door was jammed into the 'open' position with a towel (allowing anyone to enter - even children)
Front desk staff are friendly and knowledgeable. There is a unique water jug close to the front lobby filled with ice water and slices of cucumber - unusual but VERY good.
All the negative concerns can be taken care of by having Lodge personnel assigned to monitor the condition of the furniture, the safety of the fitness room, the serving of food, etc. These are not insurmountable problems and I hope The Lodge will come back to its earlier high quality status.
