“Experience of a lifetime!”
Reviewed August 28, 2011

This was absolutely incredible place to stay. It was my first time in South Africa, and I can't wait to go back. We stayed at two lodges, and after staying at Vuyatela, the other lodge was disappointing. We had been so spoiled that everything else failed in comparison.

The food was amazing. I am a vegetarian, and they made sure I had something delicious to enjoy at every meal. There is no possible way anyone could starve staying there. They offered private tables for us, and when we met another family that we really liked, they were happy to rearrange the seating so we could all sit together.

The staff was attentive and made sure we had everything we wanted (even special requests). The laundry service was great, and we had everything returned the same day. Once after returning from a game drive, we realized we had left a large sum of money out on one of the tables. Not a single dollar was taken.

The best part of the trip for us was the animals. We saw the Big 5 on our first day! We later learned that seeing the Big 5 at all at other lodges is considered uncommon. Not a single game drive left us dissapointed. There was always something new and exciting to see. Our guide and tracker were amazing. When we wanted to see something, they found it. Before we left any animals, our guide made sure everyone was happy with what we had seen.

Overall, we could not asked for anything more. Thanks Vuyatela!

Djuma Private Game Reserve is a great place for viewing wildlife near Kruger without the crowds. You really don't ever have to leave your room as the wildlife is so close to your patio. Our game drives were well led by Texan and the other rangers. We were able to see the "Big Five" in the first 2 days! This place is fantastic for wildlife and nature photography and is well set up for a great safari experience. The rooms were very large, clean and quite comfortable. As it was winter is was cool in the evenings so they turned on a small heater which helped. Meals were delightful and well prepared. Staff was very pleasant and caring. At night a guard walks you to your room for safety from any wild animals. You awaken in the morning to the sounds of wildlife in your backyard, tea served in your boma and then an early morning game drive. Evening game drives are very interesting to see nocturnal animals followed by a great evening meal around the fire. One day we visited the local village including schools and the clinic for a view of local life styles. We also enjoyed a walk through the area with an armed guard where we learned about medicinal and usefull plants and trees. We stayed 4 days and were very glad we did as it seemed most people did not get to experience all there is to offer.

An exceptional location and exceptional staff. The game drives were fantastic and they really went the extra mile service wise. We left our Ipad there and they arranged to deliver it to us 40 mile away as we could not get into the game reserve without a booking.

One other thing - the animals all walk around the lodge and you get incredible viewing on the lake at any time of the day.

All in all an excellent experience

Luxury in the bush! What a beautiful camp with attentive service this is.

The game viewing right on site is truly amazing (we saw lions, leopard, hippos, buffalo, warthog, vervet monkeys all right at the camp site) - it made me understand and respect the rules of not walking unescorted at night. The guides are great, caring, full of knowledge, and the game drives are wonderful. Beware of the monkeys at this camp though... they enjoyed playing in our outdoor shower and attempted to "break in" to our room. I witnessed them tampering with the screen door. The monkeys even stole fruit from the dining area of the lodge and broke some glassware. Devilishly cute....

The food at camp is delicious, plentiful and upscale. The attention to detail is amazing from every staff member. The bar offerings are varied and excellent (I really liked their house wines). The service is beyond compare and is truly 'pampering'.

Djuma works to support the nearby villages of Dixie and Utah and have built a preschool in Dixie while helping with the health clinic in Utah. A visit to the village is truly worthwhile as the residents are friendly and will be happy to chat about life. The children are adorable and appreciative of anything you may bring for them. Our 'tracker' was our guide for this excursion and we got to meet his entire family and he showed us where he was building his new house, too. A very personal experience that I highly recommend.

We loved this lodge in every way... I highly recommend a visit.

Room Tip: Room 1 is right on the watering hole and has the best game viewing opportunity in camp.

we spent 3 nights with our group of 6, and had the most amazing experience. the staff is great, they treated us like royalty, took care of my need for non-dairy foods with no hesitation, the safari guide and tracker were an incredible wealth of knowledge. the wild life was abundant. we had hippos in the pond right outside our window. we would go back with no hesitation.

Years ago, I spent 7 days on safari in Kenya, which was the experience of a lifetime…until I visited Djuma Vuyatela. Vuyatela has my highest recommendation for an amazing safari, vacation, and trip of a lifetime. In addition to seeing the Big 5, our driver and tracker enabled us to see a live kill, which was unbelievable. Our amazing team of Henry and Lots were fun, kind, and extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife. We learned so much.

With respect to the lodge, from the moment we arrived, we were treated with the upmost care and first class service. The staff is amazing all the way from the management to the security guards. You can feel the bond that the staff has for each other and it carries over as to how they treat you as a guest.

If you are at all worried about the food – just worry that you may have to buy a new pair of pants when you get home. The food is AMAZING!! Jessica and her staff will make sure that you enjoy a variety of culinary delights not to mention delicious wine.

During the day, if you are not relaxing on your private deck, working out in the exercise room that looks out to a water hole, or lounging on the amazing lodge deck, you can make a spa appointment with Patience who will pamper you into extreme relaxation!

You will just love your stay at Vuyatela. I was there with my husband and it was completely romantic. We also were there with friends and had the time of our lives on this amazing adventure. Stay at Vuyatela – you will love it and you always want to visit again.
