“A life experience to remember”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 13, 2012

This was truly a highlight of our trip! We spent two nights at Kirkman's and I would have gladly stayed for more. From the moment we arrived the personal service an attention was second to none, even with a large group arriving at the same time. The staff were incredible! The accommodation was some of the best I have ever experienced. Comfortable beds, well appointed rooms, and a shower that I didn't want to step out of. The food rather a main meal or snack was excellent. Our personal butler, Sonny Boy did a great job to make our trip the best. The game drives will never be forgotten. Our ranger, Richard and guide Elvis took great care of us, not only did we see amazing game but we also got to do plenty of offroading, stargazing, and had time to appreciate the nature around us. Until the second we left there were people there to help us and make sure that we were always well taken care of. Even as we were leaving we were given lunch boxes to take along for our drive back to JoBurg. I cannot say enough great things about this place. I hope to return one day and would suggest a trip to Kirkman's to everyone I know.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the cottages towards the back of the camp. We were in number 11 and it was amazingly...

If you are planning to visit South Africa an go on Safari, there is no other place to stay. I have to admit, for the price I was setting Kirkman's Kamp up for failure. I just knew there was no way they were going to meet my expectations. This could not have been further from the truth. From the moment we arrived to the time we left, our every need was met. The rooms were cosy and had the cutest details, the staff was pleasant and determined to keep up happy (you even have your own personal butler at your call), the food was amazing, and the evening dinners were set up to make sure everyone had a good time.

But the best part of Kirkman's was our ranger and tracker, Lennox and Robert. I never laughed so hard in my life. Plus, I felt safe and learned so much! If you choose to stay at this lodge you MUST request them! Lennox & Robert know so much about the wildlife and life in the bush they almost need their own Discovery show. I guarantee you will have the best safari experience of your life and will definitely see the Big Five and beyond!

Room Tip: you have armed guards at night so any room will be safe :)

This is a superior lodge with only one negative facor which I will mention later.
I was fortunate to Lennox as my Ranger and Robert as tracker.  Lennox is amazing beyond his comprehensive knowledge of the the Bush's flora and fauna. He is a successful long distance runner(56 mile races) and a community activist in childrens causes.
We saw the Big 5 on the each of my first 2days of my 4 day stay.  Sometimes 4 on a single game ride.   The excitement of a 10 minute ride at 25 mph chasing trying to find a pack a wild dogs sighted by another land cruiser group.  Very rare in the bush.  We found and followed through the bush at twilight
Colleen is a very competant mgr.  As well as genuine and down to earth.  The entire staff and most importantly Cynthia as my Butler were a delite to be around.  Their service was exemplary.
The rooms were well furnished in a victorian style.  Contained all amenities includind a well stocked refrigertor.
Now the food.  Breakfasts were complete with good selection of fruits, cereals, meats,
And egg dishes excellently prepared to your requests.  All juices and hot beverages available.
The only letdown at this superb lodge are the lunchs and dinners.  Some of thes meals did not live up to the standard I expected at this lodge.  Borh meals generally consisted of Generally one entree at lunch, two at dinner with two side vegetables ans salad.  Good bread, speads fruits, and cheeses were also available.
My comments bout these meals apply to both this lodge and to the Dulini lodge.  I would in the future enquire qs to the entrees being served and what alternatives would be available.  I am sure they will be able to satisfy your request.
I expected a greater variety dishes to select from, and more creatively prepared vegetable side dishes.  While most of the entrees were good, some like the kudo steak at the Boma dinner or the ostrich cuts served my last lunch were tough and difficult to eat.  I would not let these meals preventing my revisit to these lodges.

We really enjoyed our stay at kirkmans kamp. We know the sabi sands is renowned for excellent game viewing so we had high expectations. Our tracker and ranger were very good and entertaining, we had some excellent sightings of leopard and lion as well as many others. The lodge itself is very comfortable and has a very homely feel. The rooms are spacious enough and have everything you need. Service from all the staff including our own butler was also excellent. Food was amazing too and plentiful! We can't wait to go back!

I don't even know where to begin. This was the best leg of a vacation journey that we have ever had. The facilities were perfect -- colonial decor but updated with wonderful modern conveniences. The food was exceptional and plentiful. The location was picturesque -- on hills above the Sand River and miles of vista beyond, best viewed from the infinity pool. However, the best part by far were the game drives with Richard and Elvis, an amazing guide/tracker team. At 5:00 in the morning Richard knocks on the door to awaken you. You meet on the terrace for coffee and then off you go. You stop for coffee in the bush, and one morning the pair made us breakfast on the banks of the river. You return around 9:00, have breakfast, and then you are free until lunch. At 4:00, once again you meet on the terrace for tea, which always included a fabulous dessert, then off you went for the evening drive. At sunset, you'd stop on the road for cocktails, and then finish up by 8:30 when you would join the other guests in the bar to share your game drive experiences before dinner on the lawn or in the boma. On the tours, we saw everything! Our first evening we found a leopard and her cub up a tree with the body of a kudu and a hyena at the base trying to reach the kill. We also saw giraffes, rhinos, and at dusk, a pride of lions. For much of this we were simply feet away. Day 2 we saw all of the big five in a single drive and that night, while we were sharing tales of our adventures, the pride of lions came into camp. We all went to the veranda and experienced an adrenaline rush of fear and excitement. On our last full day, we also saw the big five including rhinos attempting to cross the river. The game drives were like that every time, from having a pair of male lions charging towards us to leopards passing so close to the land rover you could reach out and touch them to walking back to camp one day and seeing an elephant just meters away to crashing through brush and over rocks hunting again for that leopard and her cub. We learned to love the tracking and the thrill of going off-road in pursuit of an animal. Elvis was beyond good -- it was like he had a third sense about where they were. And Richard's enthusiasm and knowledge and eagerness to give us the best on every drive was exciting. It's hard to put into words a travel experience like this without sounding overdone, which this does, but all four of us had the same reaction and truly did not want it to end.

Room Tip: Don't think you can go wrong. We were the closest to the lodge which was nice but even the fart...

We were 16 people 8 kids and 8 adults and we all had the TIME OF OUR LIFE!! The Kamp is fantastic, the food is great and exotic. You never eat the same thing twice and the service is beyond excellent with every group assigned their own butler. The rooms are great, spacious and very comfortable and the camp itself with a view of the jungle/Savannah is great. As for the safari we could not ask for better. We saw all the big 5 twice over thanks to our guides Bret and Mark and our Trackers Ekson and Richard. We stayed for 4 days and saw leopard everyday, lions on three days, elephants on three days and rhino twice as well as buffalo many types of buck, antelope, birds...etc you name it. Our guides and trackers were experienced, calm, excellent and patient with the kids as well as knowledgeable. We owe the safari to them. I cannot recommend this vacation enough and I am only going on safari with andbeyond!!

Room Tip: If you have kids choose a room close to the reception area

Set on a mesa with indescribable views a 1920's homestead with fantastic decorations.
The infinity swimming pool is sensational as are the private cottages with occasional animals and monkeys strolling by. The service and the food is wonderful and a staff that goes the extra mile in friendliness and service.

Room Tip: All of the cottages are alike
