Having been on safari in Tanzania before, what was so different here was being able to get off the primary road and see the animals up close. We chose Notten's because it was a private reserve, was smal and family run (only 16 guests)l and not "high end" to make the bush experience more natural and had a good reputation. I knew going there that the only electricity in our cottage was the ceiling fan and that was fine. I loved having only lanterns to guide the way and lighting our room, such a nice touch in the bush. Thomas, Craig, and Rory were such wonderful guides and worked very hard to make sure that we had a great experience. The bedroom was very large with a comfortable bed. Although we had a very spacious bathroom, we were encouraged to use the outdoor shower outside the bathroom - it was secluded and had fine hot and cold water. The food was delicious, well prepared and eating all together in candlelight after drinks with the group was a great way to end the day. Saw the big 5 and many, many more animals. Highlight was a lioness with her 5 cubs! We want to go back!

We were fortunate enough to have stayed at Nottens. It was an amazing stay with good company food and the Game Drives were the best. We put in our requests and each one was met. Property is well looked after and all the staff are smiles all the way.

Only thing I am sad about is that we didn’t get to visit the spa cause of our own time limits.

South africa trip was our honey moon.
Notten's Bush camp was second stop in Kruger Park.
Its a very nice place with tasty food, good service, beautiful view from the restaurant. BUT its more touristic. We stayed before in Manyelity Game reserve in Bush camp with just 4 bungalows and it was more wild experience that made our trip more special.
BUT safari sightseeing is much more organized here in Sabi Sand even if there are too many Jeeps sometimes to see animals. There were even queues :)
We were very lucky to catch a lions hunting on Buffalo (special thanks to our guide).
So my advise would be to stay in different places to see more & not get bored. 2-3 days in each is much more than enough.
Anyway it was amazing with candels in the night that made our honeymoon unforgettable.

Thank you Notten’s Bush Camp for making my African Safari such an incredible holiday. Viewing the Big 5, plus Leopard Cubs making it all that more special. Our highlight has to be, while enjoying dinner on our first night, 5 Lions made a Buffalo kill right beside camp! With our wine glasses charged, we were loaded onto the 4x4 open vehicle to watch the event unfold… brilliant spectacle!

What makes Notten’s Bush Camp the ultimate BIG 5 safari destination – it’s small and therefore intimately exclusive!

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Notten's. We just got back from Southern Africa and Notten's was the highlight of our trip. We are a mom and daughter who traveled all the way from San Francisco to experience the "real" Africa and this was it. The staff was the highlight of our stay. Thomas and Brett were our guides and were amazing but we also loved everyone at the lodge, especially Solani and Gift who took such good care of us. Dave, the owner, was gracious and attentive and made sure everyone was well taken care of. Our last night we were the only two left at the lodge and he prepared an amazing meal just for the two of us. The food was out of this world. We're making the bobotie recipe that Gift gave to us right now for New Years Day. We still dream of the cheese muffins and chicken pot pie, the homemade breads, and wonderful meat on the braai. The lack of electricity was welcomed (like another reviewer said, who needs makeup in the bush) and made the stay even more magical. We cannot wait to return one day but until then we will dream about being back at Notten's.

many thanks to Dale, Susie and the team for a memorable 3 night stay!!...we had a great time and really nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

We ate far too much, the drives were superb and Nottens for us was the perfect balance between luxury and getting close up to the bush. We liked the fact that it is a small intimate camp, max approx 16-18 people and everything was very well organised. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone.

I'm not sure what to say that has not already been said. We stayed a Notten's for 3 days with our 7 year old daughter in town. It was a wonderful experience. We had Chase and Thomas as guides, and both were excellent. We do a lot of international travel, and Notten's is one of the few places that I feel like I MUST return. I hate using terms like this, but I swear the place is 'magical'.

You really get the feel that you are staying at a families private game reserve. I was skeptical of the idea of no electric lights/outlets in the cabins. This turned out to be a huge plus. After a long full day of seeing lots of game, a great meal and some wine, what could be better than falling asleep in their VERY comfortable beds with the warm glow of candle/lantern light? The sounds of the forest fill your room, but not bugs because they have everything screened off.

Only word of warning? If you come during late Nov/December, this is their rainy season, so bring serious rain gear and lots of extra clothes. Why would you come during this time? Because its the period when all the babies are born! We saw baby rhinos, impalas, leopard cubs.....very cool, especially for our daughter. Its did not rain all the time, I would guess about 1/3 of the time.

While we were traveling with our child, there were quite a few couples there. It is indeed a romantic place.
