“Fantastic Safari Experience!”
Reviewed March 25, 2012

I have only great things to say about our 4 day stay at EP in Feb '12. It truly was a memorable and fantastic experience. The most important part: The safari & game viewing. It was exceptional. We loved every minute of it, and were so sad to say goodbye to our Guide Richard and Tracker Clement. They were a wealth of information, and we saw the big 5 and so much more! The animals were the absolute highlight. Lodging: We stayed in the luxury suite which was beautiful. Very spacious with lovely decorations. Who can not love to have a deck you can sit on, view impala right outside your suite, and have monkeys jump around you? Staff: Absolutely lovely and accommodating in every way. Great service! Food: Honestly, surprisingly good! I never have high hopes for "all inclusive" type food, but seeing this is a small hotel, they don't have to mass produce, and really managed excellent meals at all hours of the day. As a vegetarian, they did a really great job giving me interesting meals. Grounds: Just beautiful. An infinity pool into the bush? Yes, thank you! So you can see, this is an overwhelmingly positive review. I recommend it without hesitation. We don't know when, but we know we will be back.

Room Tip: Luxury Suite if you can! It's worth it for your private ourtoor deck and outdoor shower.

Comfortable lodge, good service and great game viewing. Stayed 4 nights, saw the big 5, a leopard on each morning drive. Also wild dogs.

We had 4 nights there. The accomodation (rondavel) was huge ,especially the bathroom with double sink, walk in shower and huge bath . Each rondavel had its own deck.Ours was especially good looking out across their land to a water hole.It was quiet with excellent facilities.Foodwas taken in a spacious open dining room or on adjoining terraces or some nights in a large boma. Lunches were particulalry good with extensive salad bufet and always savoury meats or pies and fresh fruit salads. Evenings were a set menu with 3 choices of main coursse and a choice of starter and a set dessert or else a buffet style grill in the boma. and salads.... there was a roomy bar area, small library and a games area and 2 plunge pools with beds in the orignal camp area where we stayed as well as near the dining room.Plenty of shade and quiet areas in the gardens. Also a small shop stocked with local crafts. Game viewing was second to none each jeep had its own tracker as well as ranger, and we saw all big five within one drive! Walks are available too but more to learn about trees insects plants and tracks rather than going to find game.Fater the evening drive which included a sundower , we arrived back at the lodge to sherry and freshen up towels. before dinner. Rangers are knowleagable , expertise the best (with the trackers) and very sociable.

Make sure you get a map as the track outside the Kruger is quite rough and after extensive rain we had a rather long arduous drive to get there, not well signed in terms of how much further it is, and through several local villages and finally its sand perimeter was difficult to negotiate because of the recent floods ... three days minimum advised if possible because it is out of the way to access- but be assured it is well worth the effort especially if you arent doing the Kruger or anywhere else on your holiday.!

Room Tip: ask for a rodavel overlooking the water hole area at the far end in the orginal c...

Since there are so many positive review, I will be short:
- stayed there for our honeymoon in amazing room
- all sort of calm animals shortening the grass of the hotel
- huge terrace with shower and full view of the elephants
- good food but not gourmet. Presented as buffet. This will tell me that better for group or family vacation, even though our stay was perfect
- amazing staff (champagne and roses in the room) and great guides and trackers
- we were very lucky to see the aftermath of a kill and cheetahs

Room Tip: Rooms with the view on the water hole are the most luxury, but also perfect to watch elephants and b...

Thank you for your kind feedback! We are glad that we could contribute in making your honeymoon a memoralble experience. Re. the food: As we are a 4* lodge, therefore we do not specialize in gourmet cuisine. We serve our lunches buffet style and then every second night we have a plated dinner service. Although we do get groups and families, most of our clients are couples, either on honeymoon, or just as a couple's breakaway. Just thought I'd clear that up. We would love to welcome you back to the lodge one day - maybe even for an anniversary! Marlet Swart

Wow. From the moment we arrived, the staff at Elephant Plains went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. The game drives were awesome (thanks to Morne and Derek). The food was very good. We had a great luxury suite. I left my iPad in the room and in a panic from the airport, called and reached the desk. They were able to get the iPad to friends at we were meeting later in the week in Cape Town. Thank you!!! As we had been in South Africa for 5 days when we arrived, we had laundry to be done. It was done beautifully for a very inexpensive cost. Please consider Elephant Plains and you will fall in love with the entire experience.

Visited Elephant Plains with our kids (11 and 13) for 4 nights. We were well received and catered for throughout our stay. The games drives were very well organised and very varying, and we managed to see all big 5 over 6 game drives + lots of other game (including wild dogs!). Tracker (Freeman) also organised a mini-bush-walk for the kids. We stayed in a luxury suite, and in the room we enjoyed in particular the private deck with excellent view and complete privacy/silence. Drinks etc. are priced reasonably, so do enjoy some nice South African wine. Pool is good for a dip, however not for swimming. Children are welcomed, and I would recommend that they are at least 10 years old to enjoy the stay, as the nature is (of course) the main activity.

Room Tip: We enjoyed much having our own deck with superb view in the luxury suites.

We recently spent 3 nights at Elephant Plains Game Lodge and we had a wonderful experience from the moment we arrived. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We stayed in the Rondavels, which were lovely, clean and very confortable. The game drives were great and we could spot all the Big Five. Our ranger, Richard, was really nice and had a lot of knowledge to share. This was a dream come true trip for my father in law!
