This was our first trip to Roswell, NM. We were on our way to Colorado but we wanted our kids to experience the UFO Festival in Roswell. The trip was wonderful from beginning to end. We were fortunate to find a room at Best Western since rooms were filling up fast. Everything was clean and comfortable.

We arrived early and the clerk was able to get us a room early. Unfortunately the room was next to a very loud yapping dog but the clerk found me a different room without any problem. Beds were comfortable, shower had plenty of hot water and good pressure. Free breakfast was powdered eggs, cereal, toast and fruit. No frills but a good value.

Although the room was clean albeit small and cramped, the building itself is rather old. Walls were in need of painting to cover mold stains, etc. Window in the shower let in quite a bit of air although hearing the birds in the morning while showering was pleasant. The breakfast room was too small, and once something was gone, it wasn't restocked.

This was by far the worst place we stayed on our road trip from Austin to Northern New Mexico. It was worse than the cabin in Chama that was really a trailer home. We asked for connecting rooms, were told at check in they were CONNECTING. We have 2 children with us, a 6 yr old and 10 yr. old, and they were ADJACENT (next to each other). The service was appalling. The teenager at the counter was not just indifferent, she was annoyed we interrupted her movie! Then we accidentally left a stuffed animal in the room when we left. I had to call back 3 times, no one returned my calls, then they claimed it wasn't there. Grrrr. Probably on ebay by now for $2. The rooms were dingy and the pillows were horrible. Breakfast was cold pancakes you reheat in a microwave, two types of cereal, some small red delicious apples and bad coffee. It's a sad little place, find another hotel. You'll be glad you did.

I stayed one night, just passing through. The room was small but clean, same with the bathroom. The carpet had been shampooed within the last day or two. The king-size bed was comfortably firm.

I was on the ground floor, situated as far from the busy main drag as possible (as I had requested when I made the reservation). In the morning I could hear people walking around in the room above me and some noise from the parking lot, but overall it was quiet.

I had an ethernet cable with me, to hook up my laptop to the jack in the wall (these cables are available at the front desk for $10, refundable), and was pleasantly surprised at the fast speed of the connection.

A plus: this motel accepts pets at no extra charge and doesn't seem to have any "No pets" rooms, so pet owners aren't restricted to, for example, rooms for smokers, as happens in some cheapo motels.

The free "continental" breakfast was meager. Scrambled eggs (powdered?) and small muffins, no sausage or bacon. Didn't see any whole-wheat bread. Some cereals.

The front-desk employees were friendly.

Don't wast your money. There are much nicer hotels around for about $20-30 more per night than the BW.

I would not stay here again for the following reasons:
1. parking lot looked unsafe and room doors open directly to exterior hallway
2. bath room needed remodeling but was clean.
3. room decor was stuck in the 80's but was also clean.
4. breakfast had sparse offerings and nothing more than pre-made biscuits, gravy, cold cereal, and powdered eggs, again the dining area was clean.

It's not worth the money for this small town hotel.

The hotel really needs to update it's decor.

We stayed too long at Carlsbad Caverns after watching the bat flight, so all the nearby motels were sold out. So we drove a little further out to Roswell, NM and found the Best Western El Rancho Palacio.

It is centrally located on the main drag just down the street from the other Best Western. It has an exterior corridor format and a retro feel, though it has some updates such as an updated shower & tub and the bump-out curtain rod. No mold -- even on the tile grout. Everything shined.

The beds were great - very comfortable. The floor layout is a little different than most with the beds facing the front.

The breakfast bar is a little small, but had sausage & biscuits, eggs, bagels & cereals.

The front desk was very nice.
