“Real Free Zoo & Park”
Reviewed August 16, 2014

We truly enjoyed visiting here. The zoo was really free which was nice since we had 8 people. The carousel and train ride were only .25 per person-what a bargain. We enjoyed the free roaming chickens and peacocks as well as the zoo animals. It has a nice playground too. So many things to do here and no charge unless you do the rides.

“wonderful city park and zoo”
Reviewed August 10, 2014 via mobile

We were just passing through Roswell and decided we wanted to do something the kids would enjoy before heading on to do grown up stuff in Santa Fe. So grateful to other Tripadvisor users for helping us find this great little zoo and park. My kids had a blast and even made some new friends. The zoo was very nice for a city park and there is no admission fee. I do agree that some of the animals could use bigger enclosures though. What I enjoyed most was the park. On weekend afternoons in the summer they have 25 cent train and carousel rides. They also have family friendly movies that they play on Saturday evenings at sunset. (we didn't stay for movie but read a posted flyer- may only do this in summer). They have a concession stand that has snowcones, popcorn, and a lot of other snacks. Didn't see anything priced over a dollar. The playground is large and picnic areas were clean. Everyone we met was so friendly. Would recommend stopping here if you are looking for a budget friendly fun stop for kids.

“Nice little zoo”
Reviewed July 31, 2014

Nice little zoo. Surpised at the amout and variety of animals there. Nice lake, carosel and train ride. For a free zoo, it's not that bad for a free zoo, but I must admit, some of the caged exhibits were a little small. For a family of five, getting out not spending more than $5 made it easy on the wallet.

“Nice free zoo!”
Reviewed July 12, 2014

Great stop for the whole family. Not a bad littlw city zoo. Very clean though enclosures need to be larger for many animals. Super cheap rides- beautiful carousel and the train ride saved a ton of walking. Can't beat $.25 a ticket

“Quaint Zoo that is FREE and a good time for the family”
Reviewed July 7, 2014

When we were told about the Zoo in town we figured why not, we had some time to spend. When we were told it was FREE we had to go. You know, it is what it is, a Free town Zoo. It is just a few blocks off of Main St. and easy to get to and back from. It is a little confusing when you arrive, there is a park type area with a playground and tables, and there is the Zoo. There are several paths into the Zoo and you can really choose whichever one you want and just start seeing things. The confusing part is that it is wide open access wise and you don't have to pay, check-in, or anything. We walked around some, saw the Carousel and small Train they have that runs around part of the Zoo. We purchased tickets, a whole .25 per person, that's right, a dollar to ride the carousel, and a dollar to ride the train for a family of four. The Carousel was fun, I haven't ridden on one in forever, it's an early 1920's one that was donated to the Zoo. It was a lot of fun and the caretaker was very courteous. After that we rode on the train, they blow the whistle some for the kids and you mostly go around in a loop by a field and some water but still fun.

The Zoo itself is okay, it is Free and I think they need some more donations. They have less animals than they have pens, some were being treated by Vets, others were just gone. We enjoyed the Buffalo, Bald Eagles, Reptiles, and the Peacocks that roam the grounds the most.

After seeing everything we went to the snack bar and had shaved ices. They were a dollar a piece. Nothing at the Zoo is expensive at all, you can take a family of four, see the Zoo, ride the rides, and get some snacks for less than 10 dollars.

Enjoy it for what it is, a small free Zoo in a town that is giving back to it's residents and visitors. And feel free to donate. :)
