“Nice people, nice park, somewhat misleading advertising”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2014

We stayed at Rusty's for four nights in July 2014 and had a very nice experience. The check-in was quick and the folks who run the place are very friendly, especially Bob. Our site was a long pull-through, as all of them are, and we had 50-amp electric service and sewer. They do not have TV hookups, which is just fine. Every site has a patio and fire pit, and the management is quite pet-friendly. The grounds are clean and there is a pond area that attracts a lot of birds. I did not check out the clubhouse or laundry area.

I felt a bit misled by their Web site, which stresses that each site is 1/4 acre. Perhaps this is so, but you will still be three feet away from another camper, because the hook-ups are set up back-to-back, just like any other RV park. So if you were expecting a little more privacy, don't. They also claim to have high-speed wireless Internet. During our stay, the internet was quite slow and was down for many hours, and all night in one case. I ended up paying Verizon extra money so that I could use my own Internet connection.

Overall, this is a very nice place that is close to Portal, AZ and the Coronado National Forest, which boasts some of the best birding in North America. I would stay here again with no hesitation, but I would make sure that I did not need to use the Internet very much. The price ($24 per night) was very reasonable.

Rusty's RV Ranch is not your 'typical' RV park. All of the sites are nicely done but the real draws are the hospitality and service orientation of the park owner Rusty. Rusty is always around, cleaning, making sure the guests have their needs covered, or getting ready for the Friday potluck happy hour. She has created a tropical oasis in the desert with a bubbling stream/pond with flowering trees and frogs and turtles. Her bird cages are filled with the songs of parrots, love birds and parakeets. The laundry facility is spotless and nice and the little store stocks most of what you need.

We spent two enjoyable weeks (Mar 24-Apr 7) in a rented RV at Rusty's. The weather wasn't too cooperative w/ wind, sand/dust storms and quite a few days/nights of cloud; however, I did get two fabulous nights of astro-imaging and my wife and I had quite a few gorgeous days of hiking in the Chiricahua mountains to the west.

The park was quiet, had dark skies and the staff and fellow travellers were friendly and informative.

It was a great introduction to the New Mexico desert.

Room Tip: Rusty's has rental RV's; book early

We came to Rodeo to visit Rockhound sires near Lordsburg. We were going to stay 2-3 days but kept extending our stay to over a week. The park itself is great and the folks there were terrific. The rockhounding was, if possible, even better. The scenery up many roads was breathtaking. We are (were) full timers and traveled back roads. Thank heaven we found Rusty's. This park ranks in the top 5 all time for location and amenities. You will not be disappointed.

Rusty's folks, Bob and June, were managing the park during our stay. They couldn't have been more cordial or helpful. We were given excellent directions and advice on area activities. Even though this RV park is in the middle of nowhere, if you love star gazing, birding and scenic driving, this place is for you. Astronomers and birders come from all over the world to this area. This was our 30th RV park in a period of 8 weeks traveling cross country from Georgia, to the Pacific northwest, down through Utah, Nevada, Arizona and into New Mexico--and our favorite of all. While it had good interior gravel roads and sites but no shade, all sites were 200' pull throughs. The laundry facility was not only inexpensive, it was a place to relax choosing from an extensive library, watching parakeets in a 6' cage or just gazing out at the beautiful water feature garden. Yep, you could also walk around in this little oasis looking at a variety of plants, koi, and a couple of aviaries. Day trips should include Portal, Paradise and more. Be sure you purchase gas before leaving the Interstate; there are no stations within 25 miles. The nearby Desert Museum is an excellent display of venomous reptiles with an affordable gift shop with many items to choose from--very unique. The cafe in Rodeo serves a good breakfast and is also open for lunch. The people are so nice and the skys are so beautiful, we felt we could catch the falling stars. We loved Rusty's RV Ranch in Rodeo, NM.

Oasis in the middle of no where.

Came to go birding in the Portal, Cave Creek area. Found only a few birds but found Rusty's RV Park.
Enjoyed the RV park so much we stayed an extra day.

Pro: Huge clean sites, good free wifi, great hot tub/ swim pool. 2 Nice ponds complete with ducks, geese and koi. Nice laundry room. Rec room with TV and games.
Very friendly staff.

Con: No cable or satellite TV, No cell service for AT&T (not Rusty's fault ) and they don't take GoodSam (they do take Passport America but also charge $4.00 for electric)

We had a really nice time here. The owner Rusty is a consummate host. We will return again next year.

This is an oasis off the beaten path. The sites are large and laid out so you really feel the openness of the terrain. The views of mountains are spectacular. Rec room (big screen TV, games, puzzles included), pond with fountain, swim spa, tented porch area and bird feeders make it feel like you're on your own back porch. The proprietors are delightfully sincere and helpful. There are nice roads into Coronado National Forest with spectacular mountain scenery nearby. Stock up on groceries and come relax for a few days - watch sun rises and sunsets and enjoy crystal clear star gazing. Pulled in planning to stay a night and leave the next AM - stayed for three days...

Room Tip: Site are angled to allow for great views. Sun is hot - park so you can see sunset or sunrise depend...
