They are back open for the season, Thursday-Sunday. Their special this past Saturday night was salmon salad. To my surprise it was not like tuna salad but rather exactly the type of salmon with salad one would receive at a place like Vinaigrette in Santa Fe. It was awesome. All the greens (except the olives) were fresh and it was presented as a sampler to achieve sensory amazingness from tart to sweet, savory to spicy, crunchy to soft. Snow peas on one side and spicy peanut pasta on the other, tart raspberries mixed with sweet blackberries, sliced avocado with sparkling cucumber. The best meal I've had at La Risa.

They will be closed over the winter--Thanksgiving to mid-March-- so do not miss your chance to go now. Good food and super deserts. It is out of the way but it is also worth the trip. Try the El Valle Chicken Salad with the peanut pasta or any of their daily specials. Salmon tacos or the shrimp quesadillas are good choices if on offer. The food represents a solid value. As always, closed Monday to Wednesday.

Took a scenic route from Albuquerque to Santa fe and heard about his place. Glad we did, great combo platter and even better homemade desserts. Took 3 to go and found no better in Santa fe.

If you have a chance don't miss stopping here

La Risa Cafe is one of those unassuming, weird looking little places out in the middle of nowhere that makes you feel suspicious. Try to get over it, though, and make the drive! (Check their website first for days and hours). I went here with friends and we all had such a great experience. The staff is all very friendly. Service was terrific. Each person had something different, and each of us was blown away by the food. Absolutely delicious! Great value, too, for the quality of the cuisine. You shouldn't miss it.

I just wish Tripadvisor didn't have this listed as "L Risa Cafe" so no one can find it. It's "La Risa Cafe." I tried to correct the problem and Tripadvisor ignored me. Here's their website: http://www.thelarisacafe.com/TheLaRisaCafe.com/Home.html.

This proverbial hole-in-the wall in the out of the way location of Ribera, NM should not be overlooked by those seeking Northern New Mexico's gastronomical pleasures. The food competes with the best restaurants in Santa Fe. What impresses me the most is the sheer variety of food that this kitchen produces. Many award-winning restaurants have a limited menu so that they can tightly control the quality of the ingredients and their preparation. Not La Risa. The cafe comes up with a fantastical assortment of items (often offered as specials on the chalkboard) that always are very good or outstanding. I can't honestly give this cafe five stars because it has some of the downsides of a family-run place, especially in the service department, yet no critic can say they have a complete handle of the food of Northern New Mexico until they have eaten at La Risa.

The real drawback to this restaurant is its location in the middle of nowhere and its odd hours. Yet it is a testament to the quality that people do drive fifty miles simply to eat here. Personally, I have changed my travel itinerary in order to make sure I get in a meal.
