“Raton Pass Inn-A diamond in the rough”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2014

The only way we could have arrived here is by reading Tripadvisor reviews, which are very reliable in most cases. The Raton Pass Inn is located on a seedy stretch of 2nd St., which is the main street of Raton, but don't let that deter you as this Motel is the place to stay for clean, comfortable rooms and great value.

Jan runs this joint and Jan makes sure that your stay will be a comfortable and pleasant one. The rate for a spacious double room with two beds was an amazing $55 and this includes a room with A/C, microwave and a small refrigerator. This place was built in the 1950s and still retains this Retro charm without sacrificing comfort or function. A full breakfast is also included, so this place is unbeatable for value.

If headed north on I-25 take the last exit (454) and the Raton Inn will be on the right. Don't be distracted by the shabbiness of some of the nearby businesses and former vestiges of an earlier period, this motel is alive and well. There are several good restaurants just down 2nd street and if you go down the road a ways to Clayton, you will find the inevitable and more expensive chain motels and a Denny's and of course, a McDonalds. I recommend either the Icehouse or Crystal (Italian) restaurants for a nice meal.

If you are passing through on I-25, The Raton Pass Inn is hard to beat for charm, comfort and value.

Room Tip: All rooms are ground level with parking in front, so just pull up and unload!

What a great place to stay after a long ride. Jan called us by name when we walked in, we were the only ones there on a motorcycle. The room was spotless and spacious as well as quiet. She even supplied some old towels to wipe down our motorcycle. She had a nice layout for breakfast as well, just right for a good start. We will be going back whenever we pass through Raton.

If you want to dive back into the 60's when you could get a decent sized room, park just outside the door, and not pay an arm and a leg, then this is the place for you. Jan has done a great job of making the place sparkle. Our bed was very comfortable. Our dog was properly welcomed. And the breakfast was personally looked over by Jan. If you want some ideas of things to do in the area, Jan can fill you in. Our room had a personal touch with a small bowl of Hersey kisses on the desk and bottle water on the refrigerator. I especially liked the dressing table where I could sit and do my hair and makeup. If we are ever back in the area, we will definitely stay again.

Stopped in for the night on our way to Crested Butte. Read the reviews and was happy to learn they were spot on. Very clean and tidy room. Truly enjoyed visiting with Jan (the owner) during breakfast. She is a wealth of information about the area. Will definitely put on my list to stay again.

We found it to be great value. The other reviews are right on. Jan was great, welcomed us and our new pooch. We were pulling a utility trailer and she had room for us to park that as well. She also gave us a recommendation for the Icehouse for dinner which also was great.

The Raton Pass Inn was well reviewed but didn't really say how wonderful and comfortable facility it really was. Clean, interesting, great breakfast and coffee. Right on the Pass Road. It should be your first choice!

Quick overnight stay while on our way to Yellowstone. Pictures don't do the interior justice and the shower was better than anything I've had in 5 star hotels with multiple heads. Jan the owner is extremely personable.
