“Great restaurant with awesome history”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2012

Pappas' Sweet Shop is a long time staple in Raton. The founder immigrated from Greece and opened a candy shop that expanded and eventually changed into the restaurant that it is today, which is still owned and operated by the Pappas family. The cover of the menu has the entire story and much of the decor is made up of items that showcase that story. There really isn't anything off the menu that you could order that would be bad, and they have options to cover every taste from lunch to dinner options. They often have holiday buffets, including Mother's Day; and are starting to carry some homemade candy again. The owners often personally check with guests while they are restaurant. Since it is not far from the interstate and close to most of the lodging in town, it shouldn't be missed if you are in Raton.

“a Raton surprise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2009

We asked at the desk of our hotel where we could find a steak and a cocktail, if you are traveling in NM you have to remember that most places have only beer and wine. We were directed to the Sweet Shop the name having thrown us to begin with, we were pleasantly surprised. The service was good the salad fresh a plus in this small off the hiway town. The steak was small but above average in flavor and tenderness we were pleased. We are ranchers so anyone willing to serve choice beef has our vote.
