Astonishingly Delicious & Creative Food

On a recent vacation to New Mexico, we stopped for lunch at the Trading Post. It's filled with colorful art created by local artisans. The tables are set with fine table dressings. They also have colorful, casual patio dining. But you will feel comfortable here regardless. I had a delightful ceasar salad and enjoyed a chef's special that was certainly something special. Food not only tastes fabulous but is presented in an enticing way. A lovely lady chef came around to say hello. A great and warm atmosphere to dine and unwind in Taos for the discerning foodie.

This restaurant belies its exterior. It's in a little strip mall, close to the highway. However, the inside is lovely and upscale. The service wasn't exactly stellar, but we thought that perhaps they were short-handed the evening we were there. It seemed as though our server was covering a lot of tables. The food was outstanding! My husband had the roast duck which he said was the best he had ever had. I had a pasta dish...bow-tie pasta with pork and wonderful vegetables. My daughter and I broke down and had dessert. She had a strawberry shortcake. It was traditional shortcake...light flaky biscuits, layered with whipped cream and strawberries. She said it was particularly good because it was not overly sweet. I had the coconut cream pie. You could see the layers in the pastry. It absolutely melted in your mouth. The coconut was toasted, so it had a wonderful, nutty taste.

We will definitely stop there again the next time we pass through Taos.

We stopped at the Trading Post based on a recommendation from a colleague. It was our first stop and ended up being the best choice. We had a late lunch and enjoyed each bite! We sat at the open air kitchen bar and watched the cooks--neat experience. There were also lovely tables and quaint sitting areas. The staff was friendly, and the food yummy. My husband had a pasta dish, and I had a pizza. The portions are healthy--a great value. We ended up spending around $35 for 2 entrees, 2 beers, and 1 glass of wine. We will definitely return.

Sit at the open air kitchen bar, sip wine and chat with the chefs while they grill. It's just fun to watch someone else do the cooking and what better way to figure out what you want for dinner. The Trading Post is definitely the best value in Taos in all categories: food, ambiance and prices.

When you visit Taos, New Mexico be sure to stop by the Trading Post Restaurant and meet Chef Rene and his wonderful wife and co-owner, Kimberly. Rene hails from Switzerland (the Italian section), and his sauces and cuisine are worthy of the best spots in New York or Chicago. Rene is full of fun and loves to meet new customers while he is cooking in the open-air kitchen. You can sit at the counter and chat with the chef while eating or choose a lovely table on the outside patio or inside the lovely dining rooms. Kimberly is very gracious and never meets a stranger! This is by far one of the best, if not the very best places for lunch or dinner in Taos!
