Owner description: Buttressed church photograhed by legendary photographer Ansel Adams, and painted by famed artist Georgia O'Keeffe.

Whether or not you believe in the heavy duty Spanish Catholic way of seeing things, it's an impressive story of how the church came to be, and it just plain feels good to be inside as well as on the grounds. I understand why tourists visit there. In the parish annex is a short film and a viewing of the Mystery Painting, a $3 value on its face, but also an experience to challenge the senses and logic. Whether or not you believe, it's absolutely worth experiencing.

The church is a few miles south of Taos in a separate village. There is a good restaurant nearby. While it is good to compare the exterior with Georgia O'Keeffe's painting, you should go inside to see an early 19th century traditional New Mexico church, still in use.

If you've ever been to New Mexico then you probably know that they have A LOT of churches. My wife seemed to want to look at each and every one of them. I have to say that this was probably the most dramatic and memorable. Very simple and stark and unexpected. If you only see one Catholic church when you come to NM, see this one.

I love this church because of its iconic contribution to the aesthetic of Taos and because it is beautiful and serene. A special place, inside and out.

The Saint Francis church has the most photographed back side ever. It is iconic. The soft sculpture is marvelous. The "glow" is due to the straw in the mud plaster that is hand applied every June.
