“Worth the time to see video”

Most people probably just pop in to see the church, which is a good example of early mission. But take time & view video. It explains how church was built, and adds a wow factor to your viewing. Gives more history too.

“Famous and historic”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

This lovely church is lovingly maintained by the congregation. Every summer they gather to reapply the mud plaster which is currently thought to be the best way of preserving historic adobe buildings. The Trip Advisor photo shows you the front of the church, but the back elevation which faces Highway 68 is the famous side of the church photographed by Ansel Adams and painted by nearly every famous artist ever to visit Taos.
The interior is well kept as well. It is not always open, but worth going inside when it is. Notice the lovely painting over the main door inside done by Father Bill McNichols, a famous icon painter and one of the priests at this church.

“had the privilege”

of attending the Spanish Mass there recently. What a wonderful experience! Such a deeply religious and vibrant community! Loved the music.
The church itself is beautiful - truly awe-inspiring. A man explained to us that the adobe must be fortified every year by hand.
I would urge visitors to make a small contribution to the upkeep of this treasure.
